👩🏻‍🦰 A B O U T M E:
Ashley is a soil scientist who has had a passion for plants since she was a small child. In the long summers as a child, she would garden alongside her grandmother and it was then that she realized her love for greenery. With years of great studying, Ashley had begun her post-secondary education at the University of Saskatchewan.
At first, her second love, animals, was the career path she chose but while doing her undergrad she realized that her education would take her elsewhere. And with that, four years later she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor’s degree in science and a major in Soil Science.
Some of Ashley’s interests are RU-vid, in which she posts informative videos about plants and gardening. The focus of Ashley’s RU-vid channel is to bring science to gardening in a way that is informative but also helpful to others learning to garden. She also talks about the importance of having your own garden and the joys of gardening indoors. Ashley continues to study plants in her free time and hopes to expand her RU-vid channel as well as her reach to up-and-coming gardeners.

If you want to see the results from the copper sprayed on the plant in this video head over to my Instagram. I will post a reel tonight for it... it is honestly shocking three weeks later. Turns out find a reasonable size bottle of this is nearly impossible... So if there is enough interest I will make up some bottles and put them up on my Etsy (diluted & ready to go). If this is something you want just comment Yes below this and I will get to work.

Hi Ashley, thank you, love your channel. One question: Could you be more specific about the target quantity or target ppm values of copper and other nutrients? I have been making my own fertilisers as a hobby for a while, but I struggle to find houseplant specific information so I'm formulating half blind, using commercial blends to guide the dosage, but often these blends are incomplete and the values of micros vary widely so I feel a bit uncertain what the optimal values would be. The Hoaglands solution is more specific but the values seem way too excessive and unbalanced for houseplants (since it was formulated for tomatoes). Tissue culture media blends specifically for houseplants seem to be commercial secrets, I haven't been able to find anything specific and clear throughout my research. Especially Cu and Ni are currently dosed very low (0.063ppm Cu, 0.01ppm Ni in foliar; 6.63 ppb Cu, 1.05 ppb Ni root ) because I was scared of overdosing. This video makes me think I could go higher. I did find some papers on Cu foliar sprays in Agriculture, but these were for very concentrated mono treatments, and did not feel appropriate to apply in this context, so I would be very grateful for any advice :) Thank you!

That’s very interesting. I’d love to use it, but I have more air plants than rooted plants. Unfortunately, Tillandsias are deadly for them. I may try to separate them for a treatment, but not sure how long before it won’t effect the air plants.

I found your Etsy shop - no copper spray. I'm not sure if I should buy fungicide, 1M Copper Concentrate (and dilute to..?) Colloidal Copper... I have a few plants that, based on your information, need this, but I can't figure out how to safely give it to them. Please, what should I use at what concentration?

Would a 1% copper sulphide solution be the same or would it be useful if diluted? I happen to have some and just wondering if I could use it on plants or if it was too concentrated or just a wrong formula.
@GardeningInCanada
@GardeningInCanada Год назад
I’m assuming this was used as a fungicide? I’m think the copper would be too weak to make much of a difference.

Ok, I have a question. I bought cooper leaf spray. Dilluded it to 0,3% as the manufacturer requested for hobby plants. Sprayed the underside of the leaves in the evening and now ( the next day) some of my plants have darker spots on them ( the look like frost or water damage). Looks like some of them did not like it and I don’t know what to do :(
@ewawysocka6255
@ewawysocka6255 Год назад
So, a little update. I had to cut off most of the leaves. Some of them just fell off. Some bacame mushy. So, I just undone a half year of my hard work.

How can we get our own copper? Soaking pennies in warm water? I have liquid copper fungicide ( blue concentrate) would that work for copper fertilizer?

That would. Just don’t over apply because it can be slightly higher in copper if it’s a pesticide product
@MushroomMagpie

Is there any issue using copper sulfate for the same purpose as ionic copper?

No if it’s simply a spot treatment once a month. I wouldn’t over apply or go wild with either option. I am sure the absorption rate also will vary

So if you do have a plant with apical necrosis (hope that's the right name), should you cut the plant a node or 2 below this to kind of urge the plant back into growth at a different area of the plant?
