I have this from iron deficiency!! I take iron and b-complex daily to prevent it. I've had very severe moments where my lips become super itchy and keep peeling from this. My favorite ointment is CeraVe Healing Ointment and for travel I use Aquaphor lipbalm in the tube.
Originally was prescribed anti-fungals but they didn't help too much, which was when I kept doing my own research to discover what worked for me. So if anyone that has this and sees that antifungals aren't working, try to see if you're iron-deficient or b vitamin deficient like me!!
Same! Even my hematologist said iron deficiency anemia is one of the causes. (many other deficiencies will cause it too) but my case is iron deficiency. I just got these & it was because I was slacking off taking my iron. 😬 Carbonyl iron quickly gets my numbers up so i’m back on track.
Hoping this helps someone out: The first time I got this it lasted so long, nothing I tried worked, including antifungals or barriers creams like petroleum jelly. Eventually I discovered cortizone ointment (better than the cream cause it’s thicker/petroleum jelly based). That fixed it so fast! A couple years later I was on accutane and got it again and my derm prescribed prescription 2% hydrocortisone for it (without me saying that it had worked for me in the past), so it’s definitely a derm approved way to deal with this and I highly recommend and hope this prevents someone from having this annoying condition for over a month straight like I did!
yea, but steroids are risky to use long term and on the face. better to fix the underlying cause if possible. I believe in her full video on this she says its a vit b deficiency
@@21972012145525 you have to be wary of long term usage, absolutely, but I only needed them for 2 or 3 days and it was completely healed. Of course you should also investigate the underlying cause so it doesn’t keep happening, but steroids definitely have their purpose, and sometimes they’re the only thing that works
Thanks for this! My high school son gets it frequently. Usually if he has any kind of virus like a cough or cold, this comes too. I’ll try what you suggested bc nothing has worked yet!
I put OTC fungal cream on angular chelitis, and it resolves within a day or two. Also gotta keep my night guard extra clean to prevent chronic angular chelitis.
anyone suffering from this, i'd highly recommed you watch her full video on this. its really informative and i believe she links it to a vit b deficiency
Yes, my daughter and I both get this from B vitamin deficiency. If we get it and then take B vitamin supplements (especially B1, B2, B6) it clears up in a day or two.
I have this now for the past 4 weeks… it’s so painful! I apply Vaseline multiple times a day and I feel like it’s just getting worst. I’m anemic and I’m on tretinoin so I’m gonna try applying my tretinoin not near my mouth
Discontinued using toothpaste with sodium lauryl sulfate and it stopped. SLS-free toothpastes do not give me any problems. (Only developed this condition after a bout of food poisoning, but don't know of possible direct causal connection.)
I would try using some kind of ointment. My eczema decided to flare up on my collarbone recently and CeraVe healing ointment was a life saver for it. Idk if you are a bra wearer, but if the patch is around where the strap is, maybe it's your bra strap rubbing against the area. (Once again, if you wear one.) If those don't help, you may want to see a doctor to make sure of what condition it is.
the best and fastest way to heal that is to put a good layer of classic chapstick over night on this. its healing superfast with it. i only use chapstick for this a few times a year since childhood.
God Bless you. Finally! I have splits in that same place. Come & goes for years. Painfully so. I don’t drool. What I found is a oral mouthwash Oral B. It stings but it works!
I think mine is due to the use of harsh actives. During the day I apply an ascorbic acid solution spiked with centella, and at night I apply tretinoin. I use liberal amounts of Cosrx snail essense over the ascorbic acid and tretinoin. My skin looks great except for the corners of my mouth and the occasional red ring around my neck. I just back off on the actives whenever I get too irritated, and apply a thick ointment on my problem areas at night.
@@samyumail1 Since I am using the lighter gel form of tretinoin, I apply the snail serum over. Dr. Dray might suggest doing it differently. My way has been working well for me. Generally speaking, thicker products are applied over more watery products. I have found that snail serum soothes the redness that results from beginning treatment with tretinoin, or stepping up the potency. I made the mistake of applying a thick moisturizer and it stung pretty bad as it was sinking in. In addition, I mix a little soothing centella extract in with the snail and that helps as well. I just switched to the . 05% tretinoin, so my skin is reacting like it did when I first began treatment, but the snail/centella mix seems to be helping at least.
I have this when i mistakenly apply tretinoin on the corner of mouth and cure everytime using neosporin on the entire lips accumulating good amount at the corners.
PLEASE HELP❗️ Thank you for the information. I have angular chelitis that won't go away. I use clotrimazole twice a day, use petroleum Jelly as well, and started taking a vitamin B complex. I could see and feel the angular chelitis going away but a week into treatment and it seems to have returned with a vengeance. PLEASE HELP!!! What do I do? (Uninsured)
I have 3 cracks on each side of the corner. Doctor prescribed me medicine (Vitamin tablets)and i feel well while i took it once the course completed they're back
I get this every so often. I feel like I get it after drinking beer or on/ right after my period. Somehow I figured out antifungal cream fixed it. I'm not crazy! Lol
I get this a few times a year. It’s definitely yeast exacerbated for me… once I started using the Lotrimin (or similar) creams, they have been much faster to heal. I did lose a lot of weight quickly about 15 years ago due to a horrible pneumonia bout. Have kept it off, but I think for me, it’s just my RBF (resting bitch face). The corners of my mouth tilt down, and are sorta tucked in a bit where I get dimples. Doesn’t allow for saliva to dry as easily.
Zinc deficiency will definitely cause cheilitis. It's one of the things we look for in the dental clinic. It was one of the questions from my oral-facial anatomy class final.
I had this twice and both times were when I was wearing Vaseline on my lips to sleep once I stopped that I never got them again. And the first time I was using Vaseline to treat it because I didn’t know the cause and it made it worse I stopped using vaseline and didn’t put anything on my lips I just let them dry out and they went away.
Dr Dray, what are some causes and treatments of white buildup on the lips? I drink tons of water and use lip balm frequently, but I still have this cream buildup in the corners of my mouth and on the lips!
I was getting this quite often when not eating normally, sleeping less and not taking vitamins. I guess my body was missing some elements and was reacting this way. I used chlotrimazol cream on the lip corners and sometimes vitamin d cream and was taking vit A-+E plus vit c and fish oil high concentration.
I got this from having some missing teeth and i dribbles alot during sleep and since i received my covid vaccination I lost 16kg from 82 kg down to 66 kg i managed to get weight back to 73.4 kg the doctor gave me a white cream it goes away a little but doesn't fully disappear they only show up after vaccination and had a couple teeth pulled i never had lip issue in my life until those 2 things its only on left corner it dont hurt just annoying and i don't like it looks like scar's
Or if you are a kiddo who takes Onfi for Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, and despite amazing results from Botox in their salivary glands, continues to produce copious amounts of saliva (though, definitely better!). 🤔🤔 I learned to use petroleum jelly when necessary and it helped SO much 👍🏼👍🏼
Yeah I get these almost every winter. I try to prevent by using Vaseline or Zinc Oxide. But once/if they appear, I have to treat them like yeast infection, which is gross! haha but yeah in that case Lotrimin does the trick, just trippy to think about a cream you normally apply "down" there, to the corners of your mouth instead!
I had this on Roacctune, why does it cause it? I know this is fungal, hence the use of Daktarin for treatment. But why does boosted vitamin A cause that?
How about the rash under the nose or under the lower lip ? It’s so annoying I’ve been to three different dermatologists nothing seems to work. It started three years ago 😢
Ooff I get those when I’m stressed/don’t sleep enough, I also have eczema. But I mainly notice it when I unconsciously rub my face and sometimes weather changes. Also using retinol can aggravate it. I hope you your skin heals soon!
Do you ever see the extra salvation in people who are pmsing? I notice when I'm close to my period I drool way more or have a "wet mouth" as I like to call it 😂
I experienced cracked corners once, and I wasn't getting relief or results after a few months on the regimen my Derm prescribed. His wife/office manager quietly recommended I try old school Lantiseptic. Immediate relief, immediate results! Lantiseptic cleared up the problem within a week. 💋
I had this repeatedly 2-3 years ago over a 18 month period. I started taking omega 3 as a supplement standard dose with fish and flax oil. Have not had it since I started omega 3.
When my best friend was alive he and I always called this “chip burn” bc he’d get it after eating too many chips. Man, I miss him. I know it wasn’t intended, but Thanks for the laugh. I needed it.
This is also result of vitamin b12 deficiency. Anytime I don’t eat enough beef - I get these. I eat a couple steaks - they go away. I use turpentine olive oil salve to ease the discomfort. Works like a charm, every time.
