Put some apple cider vinegar in a bowl. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and poke several small holes in the wrap. The gnats are attracted to the sweet vinegar. They crawl in through the holes, get trapped, and drown.
I’ve tried with plain boiling hot water, and it didn’t really work as well. I noticed when I boil the water and add dawn soap, that helps a lot. I’m seeing them less and less. I also pour a little bleach in each drain afterwards.
Plain boiling water isn’t going to kill gnats that are already flying around in your place that works, but that only works if you have food in your drain and he forgot to say when you pour that hot water in that drain cover it up also works you can pour hot water down your bathroom drain in the tub and in the sink but the real way to get rid of the gnats is get you little containers or a little bowls get you some apple cider vinegar You like about an inch of poured in the container teaspoon of sugar and get you some dishwashing liquid could be any kind but I just use the original like all you need are a couple of drops of the liquid mix it up in the bowl, do not cover it and punch holes in plastic leave it open and set that in the areas where you have the nets leave it aloneand you will kill every in your place
DN work fir me. Boiling g water 4 nights in a row. A cup of apple cider vinegar with soap beside the drain. Some nights I covered the drain after the boiling water. Today, I turned on the cabinet lights, and the critters started jumping in the sink. I don't see many, but there's one here,2 there . Been going on for weeks. Can't tell if they are gnats or fruit flies. Pretty sure they are not drain flies which have wider wings. Just gotta wash every dish & pot right after after every meal. Who's in charge of the kitchen anyhow?
These are called "drain flies", which are different from gnats. Drain flies have wider wings and they thrive in drains and lay thousands of eggs in the drain. I treat my drains, starting on the lower level of our home working my way though the house. I use Bio-Chem and a pint of luke warm water poured down the drain for five days straight, dont use the drains for 6-8 hours. Bio-Chem is an enzyme that the drain flies eat eliminating the drain flies and their eggs. Then treat remaining drains the same way. Using boing water if you have pvc plumbling, you will damage the joints. Some recommend salt. Don't do that, it will eventually damage your copper pipes.
It only gets rid of the gnats that are there at the time. I've done this once a day for a week and they just keep coming back! So "experts" recommended using Dawn and pouring it down the drain and letting it sit 15 mins then flushing with boiling water. They say the gnats breed in the grease and food that accumulates in the drain pipe! Well that didn't work either! I never leave dirty dishes or food around, dry my sinks, wipe all my counters, throw out my coffee grounds, and even set my trash container outside and still I have these annoying creatures. I've tried all the "tricks" recommended and still gnats every year, but this year seems to be exceptionally bad for them!
Okay about the water but what do you do about the gnats that are flying around your house and in your kitchen and getting into your food and stuff how do you get rid of them
Mix water, dish soap, and sugar in an open container and leave it where they like to gather. The gnats are attracted to the sugar water and get trapped in the soap.
for the people who have gnats flying in ur house : apple vinegar in a cup and put them where the gnats are in and they love apple vinegar and when they go in it they drown :)
Lot of times it's the left over soap and grease from plates and such getting stuck to the pipe wall that causes the knats to show up in the drains. Hence the point in using hot water.
Men ol men god bless you I didn’t there was no way to get rid of drain flies and that’s where they was coming from was the sink apple cider vinegar wasn’t working
My kitchen sink has not been draining well since I move in a year ago, so I never use the garbage disposal. The tiny moths ?or? drain flies.. dont fly around the drain, but are up on the ceiling. They started appearing shortly after I bought 75 pounds of different types of Grains. I put them into Dollar Tree containers that have screw tops, but that are NOT air tight!!
Trust me you want that apple cider vinegar, sugar, and soap in a little container what are you gonna do with the gnats that’s flying all around trust me do that concoction put little jars and little room in the corners and you will kill all those hot boiling water works, but that only works for the drains, but you still have to get the gnats out of flying around
This does not work... I have been doing this for days... I can't figure it out it driving me nuts!!!!! I've even bought 3 zappers, fly ribbon, vinegar traps etc!!!!!!!!
Are you sure the source are your drains? Did you do all drains? Perhaps make it very salty as well. This will suck the water out of the eggs and kill them. Mosquitoes, black flies, fruit flies, and gnat eggs and larvae thrive in fresh water.
I keep my house spotless & no matter how many gnats I killed it seemed like for every 1 I kill 5 reappears.. so I went into my kitchen to do my daily gnat check & something told me to look at my sink & behold there was about 30 of them mfkrs!! I turned in the hot water so quick & I mixed Fabuloso(that shit stinks lol) & some organic dish soap & when I sprayed them they dropped like flies but I’m about to try this now because those little sh*RD are disrespectful.. I hate it when bugs fly by my ears or when I swat at them they fly back at me.. I don’t get it I keep a clean house 😭😭
Sounds just like me I did the boiling water treatment but some how I'm still seeing the. Yes it's annoying just when I think I kill 10 years for sure 5 more are flying again
Sir, respectfully-the method you speak of (pouring hot water in your sink) is not to get rid of existing gnats, but is a preventative method to stop future gnats...to get rid of the gnats that are already in existence is the apple cidar vinegar method. 😉
How do you drain potatoes or pasta? Do you just wait for it cool down in the water? Think about it. Boiling water goes down the kitchen drain all the time.
