Just a PSA, these are super dangerous and if they bind up they can rip the angle grinder out of your hand and take off fingers or your chest cavity easily. just ask Stumpy Nubs youtube channel. At least wear proper PPE.

Watch it. At 13,000 RPM you got a whirling digit removal tool. Always keep the guard on and the extra handle with two hands and plenty of protection for your body. If it jumps it's going to send you to the hospital or worse

You must not like your hands. That tool is extremely dangerous. Those chainsaw blades are banned in the uk, and every other video about it on RU-vid is about how dangerous it is from a guy with less meat and bone than before he used it. Just rent a stump grinder from a local rental place.

Your right. They are dangerous 😁👍

With that amount of root to grind, it’s better to rent a root grinder from Home Depot man. It’s a much bigger machine and will take you no time to do it all.

I used reciprocating saw. I did not even need to clear the dirt around the root, the saw blade just simply pierced through dirt as it cuts the root. Your way is also good.

Those Harbor Freight tools are OK, been using a rotary polisher and it gets the job done. I use a flea market grinder, just don't bear down on it because its is low powered. Was considering the blade with carbide points to work on small stumps, but there is a guy here who grinds stumps and he is not too expensive. I messed up a lot of saw chains working on stumps & roots, a small piece of stone in the wood and a chainsaw tooth is Fkd-up. A reciprocating saw pruning blade really works great and the thin blades are fairly cheap to use at ground level or below grade (my experience).
@VansWorld
@VansWorld 3 года назад
I have some demolition Sawzall blades that have carbide tips on them and they were great as long as the roots aren't really wet.

Carving disc good idea. Low end Harbor Freight grinders = crap in my experience. Was using wire brush cup to prep a floor. HF unit ran kind of hot and eventually burned out. Bought a better grinder ($80-ish) and difference was night and day. Faster RPM removed material faster AND ran much cooler. (and of course also didn't burn out). EDIT: The one I am happy with is a Bosch. There are other good brands of course but it has served my needs well.
@Pro1er
@Pro1er 4 месяца назад
I used that same grinder to do that same job, (but with a much safer disc), and I ran it until the brushes were worn down to nothing. I'd rather use a $10 disposable angle grinder than to use my Makita angle grinder in the dirt.

Yeah this whole setup looks like crap. Which I guess is what you’d use if you were actually going to do this 😂. I’ll stick with my fecon for removing roots. Does look like a plan if you were digging fence post and had no other option because you couldn’t get equip to hole.

Have fun with this little gadget. Sit in the shade of the tree you just damaged by shaving those nasty roots. As your beer gets warm while the tree slowly dies from disease. Be proud!
@bobbg9041
@bobbg9041 5 месяцев назад
2 questions, did you ever get hurt with this tool? DO NOT PRESS IT DOWN INTO WHAT YOU ARE CARVING. Let the tool do the work and keep a firm grip. Number 2 did the tree live? Maple trees have a shallow root system, wile nice looking and give plenty of shade they are not a good tree in a yard your growing grass in. As for that tool you can buy other versions that cut just as good but are not as dangerous to use. Last, open up your original grinder and replace the cord, its not that hard to do.
@garychandler4296
@garychandler4296 3 года назад
Use hot glue to reset your chain. First part to die will be the spindle stop on the grinder; make ,dand sure you have it fully depressed, and do NOT tighten the tool down, it will tighten itself by torque direction. The second thing will be the switch keeper and you'll have to hold it forward to work, so be sure to FULLY engage it. I disc's. keep six of those Drill Bastard grinders, loaded with different discs. Oh, and dust will kill the motor.

@VansWorld
@VansWorld 3 года назад
No. It shouldn’t. I mean your just getting a few on the surface. The root is still there. Your just carving them down a bit.
@rickhuff3617
@rickhuff3617 2 года назад
Many trees have root systems that will extend well into the ground so, no, it will not kill the tree. Not all the roots are on the surface but those that are can really screw up a mower deck. Moreover, what you're carving is the top half of the root or less. The remainder of the root will still be able to transport water and nutrients to the rest of the tree. I have carved down roots of both deciduous and conifers in my yard and both are doing well.

That was great! I was going to use my chain saw to gradually shave the roots to ground level. But that wood carving disc seems a lot safer. Thanks for the tip! Also, I don’t think that would damage the tree because it wouldn’t be any different than cutting off a branch.
@blairleighton3343
@blairleighton3343 Год назад
No, use your chain saw instead. Those little discs can open you up. The most dangerous part of a chainsaw is the tip.Using one of those discs is the same as getting very up close and personal with a chainsaw tip. It's the kickback that you get when you venture too close to the centerline of the bar. Just saying 🍺
