Thanks for this, Robin. I first watched this a few weeks ago after buying my M5 MkIII, and have been experimenting with these settings since then. Although very familiar with the aperture/shutter speed/ISO triangle (I used to be a keen OM1 photographer), the additional AF and other settings you recommend make a huge difference - which would have taken me a much longer time to discover by myself!

Thank you Robin!! You explained in a short video, what many people couldn't explain clearly or show properly! I've come across others saying use a low AF focus but I could see how their photos weren't razor sharp, even though they were claiming their photos were "sharp". I will try those tips in my next images :) I bought you a coffee, enjoy! :)

I'm glad that something so simple like #1 move your focus point!....was part of this. I being pretty old school am so ridiculously guilty of not doing this anywhere NEAR enough and I pay for it sometimes. Focus recompose is so deeply part of my brain that even with all of the fantastic technology we have available these days in these camera bodies, I just never utilize the tools that are right in front of me. It's great to have those skills sure, but it can get you into trouble for sure, and the result when just using the tools how they're supposed to be used is just so much smarter haha. I'm still working on that, but keep reminding some of the more stubborn guys like me lol. (now to finish the video haha)

No matter how good the composition, if it's not in focus it will never win a competition.......one of the first things competition judges look for......every time.
@AnastasTarpanov
@AnastasTarpanov 2 года назад
@@gangleweed totally don't agree with that. It's not the most important thing. You can have a perfectly sharp photo, without a moment, story, composition, motion, emotion, etc. is pointless. And if you have watched some contest judging the photos are always shown in full size on screen, no pixel peeping, and they have like a second to choose, at least on the first round.
@gangleweed
@gangleweed 2 года назад
@@AnastasTarpanov I would agree with your point of view, but at the same time if the photo lacks quality no matter what the subject portrays it will not impress the judges........images that are intentionally made "soft" are for a reason, and most portraits are in this category especially females and young children.....sharp lines in those photos win no points. Animal photos and close ups of insects and flowers MUST be razor sharp.
