I am in my 3rd sem as a cybersecurity engineer student and I am really interested in doing some internship programs. Do you have any recommendations on what kind of company and positions should I look for?

I'm so glad I came by your channel. I have been stressing about how to break into IT Security. You think it is realistic to be get a SOC Analyst job with a Network+ and Sec+ certification? Also, I saw on another video that you're attending WGU. I am as well (10 classes to go).

Thank you so much for your reply. I don’t know why it doesn’t show up anymore, but I was able to read it. If you don’t mind, I do have one other question. I’m studying for the SSCP, and I keep feeling like it’s not helping me understand exactly what you do as a level one SOC Analyst. For somebody who is a third-year CS student, do you think studying up on how SIEM software works would give me a good feel for being a SOC Analyst I? I did see you said something about trying to get an internship, but I’m not sure how realistic that is for me. Work, school, and Location would make that quite difficult. The place I’m planning to apply is quite large, so I’m sure they separate off duties as opposed to having a tiny team take care of everything

@@coryanders6328 Hi Cory! Sorry about not replying to your comment. For some reason I wasn't notified for your second reply like RU-vid normally does. My comment being deleted probably has something to do with me migrating this channel to another "account" so I can use my original one for a different more vlog style channel should I choose to do so. It said something about deleting my replies to comments but it didn't do it to all of them so that's somewhat weird. Anyway, in answer to your question, I'd probably go ahead and do the CySA+ over the SSCP, as I just view it as a much better certification in terms of what a level one SOC Analyst would do. (Presuming level one is a bit lower than level two and on up.) Nonetheless I liked it much better than the SSCP, and would recommend it. I'd also recommend doing the eJPT and eCPPT with the corresponding courses if you're wanting to do some pentesting stuff. Otherwise, I think the CySA+ is a good place to go for now, and maybe after that the Pentest+ or CASP+. Also eLearnSecurity does have some nice blue-team courses if you want to go that route. Now their yearly INE subscription is only $750 and gets you access to ALL of their content. Studying, or better yet setting up your own test SIEM and doing some labbing with it is a great way to learn how it works and would be good as far as what a SOC Analyst may do. Splunk Fundamentals 1 is a great course to take for that. It is time limited though to like 1 month. Splunk is a free SIEM up to 512MB of log ingestion a day, which is more than enough for a small lab environment. Hope this helps and isn't too late!

May I ask do you have a college degree? I do not have one myself but I do have the Comptia Security+ Certification. Without a degree, am I able to land a cyber security job?
