Groundstrokes are a great thing to learn in pickleball. Although we may not use them as often in our sport, they can teach us a lot about mechanics and give us confidence.

Great video! I'm coming from playing volleyball for 7 years, which means I have no transferable skills for pickleball! 😅 Started playing weekly recently so your content has been instrumental! Thanks!

I’m taking group lessons from very good instructors who keep telling me I’m all arms and to use my core. They even show the motion. My unatheletic self could not translate what they were demonstrating into my actions. Your 3 step breakdown had the light bulb go on for me! Thanks! BTW I bought the CX14 you recommended a while back and it has upped my short game and top / back spin. Ground strokes need work 😀!

Awesome lesson. How about the angle of the face of the paddle? usually when I practice ground strokes, half of my shots go way out.
@PickleballKitchen
@PickleballKitchen 10 месяцев назад
Thanks a lot. If that's the case, then push you wrist forward a bit and let the paddle lag behind. Think "wrist first".

For the majority of your ground strokes, do you like to hit the ball: a. as it is still rising b. top of bounce c. as it starts to fall? Which of these 3 positions best suits your ground stroke swing? Thanks so much.
@PickleballKitchen
@PickleballKitchen 10 месяцев назад
You should hit groundstrokes at the top of the apex on the bounce. So right before it starts to drop.
@BruceAChristie
@BruceAChristie 10 месяцев назад
@@PickleballKitchen Fantastic. So that would be half way through its horizontal bounce distance. Probably the most effortless place to strike the ball. (I know some squash coaches who also teach hitting ground strokes at its apex.) Thanks so much!

I love your unconventional style of teaching! I've been playing 5.0 lately since recovering from back surgery and feeling great, but am working on my forehand groundstrokes (I favor my backhand) and getting more aggressive. I understand more of what you say because I've never been a tennis player and can appreciate the engineering mind. Btw, how' much do you charge? I live in Utah and am coming to nationals in Nov. By profession, I'm a pianist, so that doesn't carry over to pickleball, but I do have great eye/hand coordination! 😁

Do you swipe up or turn up with your wrist or just keep wrist pretty static?
@PickleballKitchen
@PickleballKitchen 10 месяцев назад
Wrist is mostly static. Most of the motion is in the shoulder and forearm.

I’m curious, do you lock your wrist on contact or is it loose all the way through
@PickleballKitchen
@PickleballKitchen 9 месяцев назад
It's pretty much loose all the way through. I think it's important to just not think about it too much.

I see your wrist bending backward…and what about topspin to keep the ball in the court? Explanation?
@PickleballKitchen
@PickleballKitchen 10 месяцев назад
Topspin would be another topic entirely. But you want to brush up on the ball and sort of make a windshield wiper motion with your paddle.
