I often get asked how do you get the American Express Black Card, which to me is the holy grail of credit cards. People have also commented on this credit card as their dream goal in their financial pursuit. Many have flexed this card on RU-vid without having one, and many have been caught flexing fake or expired Amex Black Cards on Instagram.
This video is a step-by-step guide to getting the Amex Centurion Card. I must warn you this is not an easy application to just pass. You either have to have clout, be a celebrity, or be a major spender with American Express or their competitors. They look for the highest net worth individuals before inviting you to the dance.

I work at Home Depot and someone came in and was acting all weird Old White Guy.. he had a woman with him wayyy out of his league.. anyway.. he had me ring him up and he gave me a black Card I was like woah.. I heard of these.. he had me load his items to his car he was driving a Ferrari and he tipped me 100 bucks like wtf

Expanding on your advice: Platinum for several years and use their TA service, since that's customer relationship value for them. If you really want a Centurion invite, whichever market we're talking about, your relationship with AMEX needs to stand out. It's all about spending patterns, not just the invoiced sums like RU-vidrs tend to explain (since they don't have the card, excluding Simon, how could they know?). And yes, it's amusing how people review the card without having it.

Hi Simon were you invited to apply for a business or personal Centurion card? I am an Amex cardmember since 2003 and am currently charging about $500-$600k a year for my Amex business platinum. I’ve heard you have to charge into the millions to get a Business Centurion card so I’m curious what they invited you to.

18 and currently have an everyday cash back card. I’m thinking of moving to a points based card, either gold or platinum. I honestly won’t use much of the benefits that it comes with, it might not be worth paying the annual fee if I don’t utilise many of its features but maybe it’s something worth having just in case? Or perhaps wait for a really good sign-up offer.

Interesting Video. I formally sold Amex Small Business Cards, and so many people demanded an application for the Centurion, for I had to withhold laughter. Before RU-vid and Social Media of personal experiences and data points, Amex Upper MGMT won't share the requirements of an application with us except that being Platinum cardholder is a good start. We all suspected that spend requirements were over 250K. Business Centurion I believe maybe a even higher threshold. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Simon, great video... been a platinum member for over 10 years now. I have to go through an annoying financial review every year as I don’t have a set credit limit. Do you go though the same annual review, having to provide financial statements/tax returns? Also don’t you feel the constant pressure of having to spend to meet a spending minimum for Amex not to demote you?

I had that done once or twice, but they do not review me anymore. I think because my spending is pretty consistent and my payments are 100% on time. I feel no pressure. If they take the card away for whatever reason, I am saving $5k per year. I do not feel it will stop me. It is nice to have but I can live without it as well. Goal achieved and on to the next.

Amazed to see how humble you are despite being one of the few people getting this card. Not to say how you still keep touch with reality and still think $5k is a lot of money. My path was a discover student card at 18 to build credit while paying for my car (excellent beginner/intro card). Then a green Amex at 20 and shortly after I started receiving invitations for gold/platinum. (Parents never had an Amex account). Did not want to upgrade just yet as I wouldn’t have been able to use all the perks offered. Then in December at 22 I chose to go with gold because I eat out more than I travel lol especially by plane. Hoping to switch to platinum in the next year or two once I graduate law school. So far American Express customer service/perks/experience has been exceptional 🔥

Honestly I would consider keeping the Gold Card as it has better points overall compared to the Platinum Card. The upside especially with the Platinum Card is if you travel a lot you'll get lounge access and 5x on hotels and airline purchases plus other promotions. The other option is stacking them to maximize your points!

I don’t think so. As long as you get close or pay their fee. But they can revoke anytime.

upgrade it to platinum, Platinum covers most of the perks of GOLD if not all. Also, you do not want to be paying an annual fee for both. if it comes with the same perks. Platinum offers more but also costs more. In my opinion fee for the Platinum is more worth it than the fee for GOLD.

Wrong, the gold is for restaurant and groceries on the personal side. Platinum is for hotels and flights. If you do a little bit of both then it makes sense to get both. I have the green card and I use that and I can't justify gold because I don't shop a lot of supermarkets , but at Walmart supercenters. The platinum I don't justify right now because I don't fly a lot or travel a lot. From going to green to gold, is not worth it for me because of like I said the supermarkets and it's 3X on green to 4X on gold for Restaurants, it's not worth it right now for me for $100 more and annual fees from $150 on green to $250 on gold.

Do you have to go through every card in order to get the platinum? Say could you just start off with 1 of the everyday blue credit cards for a while then just go to platinum of course once you have the required credit score? Or do you need to go through all of their cards including Gold before touching the platinum card?

I have about $40,000 in revenue from being an Uber driver 90% of that is expensive though Fuel and maintenance I know I can put 40000 as my income because they say all available money my Experian has about 30 inquiries on it from shopping for cars I was looking for a car for about 6 months and I would go to various dealers my TransUnion is a 750 with only 6 I know Amex prefers Experian but if I freeze my Experian they would have to go to another Bureau correct

Amex had upgrade perks. But there is a whole other thing with miles you can do. Depending on the card they hang different airline partners. They will upgrade upon availability.

Good video wish was more that would share like your doing. Definitely right how it takes years of high spending. People that even spend way over 250k a month and still don't get invited. Amex blacklists people as well, heard they even blacklist authorized users. Even go after au's if the main person defaults, even though an au is not responsible they still try. So that can affect you applying, just crazy. The Centurion is nice and I like the older card better, nice they give the option to keep the old card vs the new one. Still like my JP Morgan card better in many ways, but Centurion has its own things next no one can do or help with. Nowadays I'm more into Fintech Cards and oddly the apple card had one the highest limit and JPM card use to be the highest given their 3x limit just sucks does not report to show the really high credit limit as reg credit card, not a charge card even tho the JPM kind like a hybrid card.

Remember I was spending 250k+ 15 years ago. That is a big difference so in today's standards maybe its double? Maybe they want 500k now and they may even want you to have some clout like instagram or be a celebrity.

Amex no longer takes legal action against AU for non-payment by the primary cardholder. They stopped that practice awhile ago. They will blacklist you for non-payment, but if you pay them back you are off the blacklist. Amex is the only major card issuer that does not sell its debts and can be aggressive in its collection practices. After September 2009, Amex stopped disclosing the spend requirement on the Centurion Cards, which unintentionally increased the mystique of the card. The requirements used to be the same for the Personal and Business Centurion. Now, it's dramatically different. For the Business Centurion, you will get their attention at the 5 million per year mark, but most invitations are to those upwards of $8-10 million. This is mainly because of the increase in media buys, charged to business cards, that have happened in the last 6-7 years. For the personal, it starts around $250k, but they look at your spend pattern. They want to see spending that reflects disposable income. No more business expenses that folks put through their card to qualify for the Centurion. They also look at card tenure and your past spend patterns as well. A workaround is to be a client of Goldman Sachs Private Wealth Management, which requires a minimum of $10 million in investable assets. Once you are a client, your advisor can request an invitation. Amex will consider your Goldman Sachs relationship in lieu of spending requirements. Note, it's not a branded Goldman Sachs card like with their Platinum Card. They do not waive any fees either.

On average I spend $20k-$25k on my personal platinum per month and $200k-$450k a month on my bus platinum. I’ve had the platinum for a few years now. What else should I do for an invite?

So you cannot combine the two. You may be able to concentrate spend on one card with Shareholder loans and repayments. Check with your CPA. Splitting on both you are below their thresholds it looks like.

If you are worried about the fee, the time is not for you to get the card. Get cards you are more comfortable with and later upgrade.

It’s done automatically when you are checking in. There is an upgrade list. Specially with delta, as Amex is a big time partner. You would have to see which airlines partner with Amex. That’s available online. Maybe I’ll do more videos on that in the future.

I don't know much about credit cards but I know that I once upgrade my Capital One card to a Quicksilver card. I forgot what it was before I upgraded it. But I think it's kind of crazy that you couldn't just upgrade your business platinum to a centurion instead of having to cancel that Platinum trade line after all those years.... I guess it's just greed.. they probably would hope that you kept both...

I’ve been with another bank since I was 18 and was instantly approved for platinum right after college. I do have medium income but do not have high net worth. I think they just care about your credit score/history. Don’t need to start with amex at all.
