How to get the LAST of the LOTION OUT of the bottle! (4 Techniques)

I did some research and decided to make a video since I was going to have to do it anyway.
Let me know which technique works best for you and if you have any cool tricks to add! :)
Technique 1 (0:38): turn it upside-down. and wait.
Technique 2 (0:57): cut the bottle open. scoop out the lotion.
Technique 3 (2:57): heat up the bottle in a tub of hot water. wait 5-10mins. pour the lotion out.
Technique 4 (5:10): extend the end of the pump by attaching clear plastic tubing (aprox 3inches long, trim to fit). this will help the pump reach the remaining lotion.
All the Aveeno lotions seem to have the same size pump (or rather the diameter of the tube), regardless of the size of the lotion. So the 1/4" ID (Inner Diameter) tube should work.

My big question to Johnson and Johnson is why they don't have refillable bags of lotion in biodegradable packaging... so we dont have to toss the used plastic bottles into overflowing landfills. In the meantime, while they mull over this, I pack and post the empty bottles to them...its their problem, not mine. If others did the same, it would start a movement....

For anyone who recycles at home, note that any plastic bottle that you leave the cap on, at the end of recycling center, they will toss it in the landfill, because they consider it "contaminated" material. The bottle and the cap are different types of plastic and pumps are complex plastics with many different parts and may have many different types of plastics in it. Plus, it may have contents left inside which is also "contamination" to the recycling process. A little bit of food waste or other contents is okay but they say to wash it out because it can create mold and smell at the end point. Do the environment a favor and at least remove the cap of any plastic bottle before you put it in your household recycling bin. Thank you :)

Ha! Sending the bottles back to them!! That is genius! J&J lotion has a lot of chemicals, I would switch to more natural brands... Trader Joe's has a nice body lotion that's chemical free and only cost about $3

The funny thing is that I googled how to get the last of the lotion out of the bottle because of Aveeno! Why don't they just put a longer tube in there themselves, I wonder.

Because they want women to spend more on replacement lotion. They could either make the bottle shorter or the tube longer, but they do neither. :\

Me too! I get so frustrated with my Aveeno containers when they won't pump anymore. Just as well I love the stuff or else I would change. I did use a drinking strawer to extend the tube but it only worked for a short while.

This was excellent. I used the cut the bottle technique for some expensive lotion and it worked like a charm. I had the bottle turned upside down for over a week, but when I cut the bottle in half with a knife, I discovered 4 more ounces of untapped lotion. Yay, baby! Also, now I have a the top half of the bottle to work as a funnel that turned out super sweet and the bottom half of the cut bottle works as a container for my shower supplies, razor, shaving cream etc. Bravo young lady for making this great video! You deserve an Emmy award for your generous and useful tips promoted on your video presentation.

After you cut the bottle just leave it open and scoop with your fingers when you need moisturizing. If you're OCD, use a Saran Wrap to cover it. Done.

I was gonna say something similar. Cut the bottle, and instead of pouring BACK into a similar bottle where the lotion gets stuck, pour into container where you can easily remove with your fingers. 😁

Just cut slits into the top half you cut and squeeze it down the bottom half, now you have a mini lotion bottle lol

You could do that, or just use the hot water trick and refill a bottle. Either use it, or repackage old lotion and then give it away as a present :)

This was the only time I ever looked up how to get moisturiser out of a pump bottle and I found you using the exact same product namely, the Aveeno moisturiser, so it must be a good sign that this is going to work..... so thank you !

I put a plastic baggie into the cup before turning the lotion bottle upside down. The lotion goes into the baggie and then I tie a rubber band around it. then I can squeeze it out.

Thanks for the video! I’ve been holding on to a few lotion bottles for a long time just waiting for the magical day that I’ll have enough time to figure out what to do with them. FYI, same with boxed wine. Don’t throw the box away when you think it is empty. Open the box and remove the bladder. There is at least another full glass of wine in there. Just snip off a corner and pour it into a glass!

Here’s my Easy Peasy solution . Leave the pump in the bottle, shut it off. Take a sharp pointed Awl or Skewer and punch a hole in the bottom corner of the bottle. Squeeze the bottle and the remaining lotion is forced out the bottom,. Capture the lotion in to a container. I squeeze it into my new partially used lotion bottle.

I tried this plus the heat-up method and it worked well. The heat and the hole helped focus the lotion as it went into the destination bottle. Otherwise the lotion is really hard to control and quite messy.

I cut open the bottle and put into another partially-used bottle of lotion. I once weighed the bottle before and after and had more than 2 ounces difference in weight. That adds up after a while. I’m going to try the hot water method, as that would be so much neater. Thanks for the tip.

For those who want to cut open the bottle you can use a knife and put it on the stove to warm it and then cut the bottle very easily .

It's actually "Crystal Clear." It's all about subject/verb agreement - "You can use a KNIFE and PUT IT (meaning knife) on the stove to warm IT and then cut the bottle." :-)

I've been laying bottles on their side and using the tube to dish out the residue for using on my hands. I finally decided to do a search, as humans are very inventive. Several searches failed. One had to ask just the right question to get here. Thank you for this. I didn't expect heating would work, but it did! I also used some tubing to lengthen the tube. That works well. Now, one day, I'll be a millionaire thanks to this. I'll send you 10%..

Great idea on putting the bottle in hot water and pouring it into a recycleable container. I’m going to do this with my glass pump bottle of lotion. I like keeping a couple of recycleable containers on hand for these types of things. I put the cut plastic bottles in them instead of transferring them. I also do this with large samples. This helps keep things tidy and lotion from drying.

Excellent to see your video with those techniques to avoid wastage. I would add scraping the bottle into a wide mouth container with a lid or adding the tubing to the pump as soon as possible and keep swapping the extended pump to newer bottles. After saying that, wouldn't be a better world if the product came with a suitable pump?!

I would add a tablespoon or so of distilled water to each bottle and shake until mixed, then pour into one bottle. Then to get everything do like someone below suggested and let the last drip into a bag in a cup.

Instead of scissors, I would use an exactoknife. I found it easier to use.

You can also cut the container and put the lotion in a freezer bag and just use your finger to get it out and it's not going to ooze out of the freezer bag just make sure you have quality bags

I would not scoop it out and put into the same type of bottle. I scoop it out and put it into a shorter plastic kitchen container with a lid. You can use the remaining lotion out of that until used up. I also like the idea of adding the extra tubing on the end and reinserting the pump on the bottle.

Actually 1 of the other types my sister uses I found a dish soap lid that you can open and close, and it fits on Jergens the screws on the lotion perfectly

Just put it in the microwave for a few seconds. Then transfer it to a container of your choice. It flows out like water into the next container.

It still doesn't get it from the edges. Some companies do have long tubes but it still doesn't get it all out. At the price of some serums and creams I want to get every last drop.

They should run tests on their own pumps before selling them really. Companies should always try their best to reduce waste that goes into dumps and show that they are being responsible to the environment. By taking short cuts and short changing consumers only shows they are not thoughtful and creates further doubt on the credibility of their product

Personally I keep used moisturiser tubs and put leftover cream in those. No way would I try putting it back into a little opening with a big ol spatula.

I add a tiny bit of water (like a small spoonful) and shake it. Loosens just enough product from the sides or corners for that use without gdtting too runny, and the next time I need it I can add water and shake again.

My mind is blown by the people here thinking this video is "amazing" and "life changing" ARE YOU SERIOUS?? Is everybody so stupid that they believe the girls idea of cutting open the bottles is genius?? Then she goes through all the time and trouble of cutting the bottles only to put the contents back into another bottle!! Me watching this was the biggest waste of my time all year!!
