If you have to submit the documentation in Uruguay, how does one arrange apostilles and police documents from the home country if the applicants must remain in Uruguay under the tourist visa until the residency is obtained? And isn't it true that citizenship is not the same as a native Uruguayan, and this is indicated on the eventual passport?

Thank you for your comment. Arranging a police clearance certificate is also possible in Uruguay. To do so, one visits a consulate of their country of origin in Uruguay. However, other documents must be apostilled before travelling to Uruguay. Regarding citizenship, yes, it is true, since in Uruguay, the law recognises two types of citizenship: by birth and naturalisation. The first type of citizenship, or "ciudadanos naturales", is acquired by birthright in the country. The second type of citizenship, or "ciudadanos legales", is available to foreigners who undergo the naturalisation procedure. However, the passport does not usually indicate that on the cover.

@@immigrantinvest-en Turn one would have to make sure of arriving in Uruguay no later than 3 months after the apostille. And what would happen if the authorities required an additional document to be apostilled after arriving in Uruguay? I suppose it's vital to engage the services of an excellent facilitator in Uruguay BEFORE arriving in order to avoid any potential mistakes since it's a long trip back and forth to Canada....

@@dovygoodguy1296 Indeed, the process is tricky and requires thorough preparation and research. And, you are absolutely correct, it is best to contact an immigration specialist on the stage of collecting the documents and before moving to Uruguay.

How can a person remain in Uruguay for months during the Residency application process when they only came to Uruguay as a tourist and left all their belongings back home in the US or Canada?
@immigrantinvest-en
@immigrantinvest-en 4 месяца назад
In that case, a person might want to arrange transportation of all the necessary belongings to Uruguay. It is also important to note that after a foreigner applies for residency and until they get it, they are granted temporary status, which is different from a tourist visa.

@@immigrantinvest-en But why would one arrange to ship all belongings before knowing if they'll even get the permanent retirement residency?
@immigrantinvest-en
@immigrantinvest-en 3 месяца назад
@@dovygoodguy1296 One can ship only the belongings they need for residence in the country for up to a year. A candidate for Uruguay permanent residence must show the intention to move to the country, that is why it's required to live in Uruguay until the status is issued. @@immigrantinvest-en What would happen if a person came as a tourist for a few weeks and wanted to start the application while just in Uruguay as a tourist, when the government wants the applicant to stay for months, but most of what the applicant has are back home??
