How To Get + Use JAPAN SUICA CARD on iPhone With/Without CARD NUMBER

I’d like to share with you HOW TO SET UP and USE Japan’s SUICA CARD on iPhone WITH and WITHOUT a CARD NUMBER. Using some sort of Transportation IC card is kinda standard in Japan, especially in cities like Tokyo, Osaka… since it helps us save time and money at the same time. If you have a smartphone, consider set up and use the Suica card on your phone. I’ll show you 2 ways, STEP BY STEP how to GET and USE the Suica card on your phone in this video. The first way is via APPLE PAY (APPLE WALLET). And the second way is via SUICA FINANCE App.
Recently, according to JR, due to the chip shortage, they’ve stopped selling some of the cards like Suica, Pasmo (unless you stay in Japan and buy the monthly commuter pass, you still can buy it).
If you travel to Japan and prefer a physical card, you can consider the Welcome Suica card or the Pasmo Passport card, which are the cards created for visitors to Japan. But please be noted that these cards are non-refundable and only valid for 28 days.

Regarding the digital Suica card, you can also get the card number after adding the Suica card in your Apple Wallet: - Open the Suica card in Apple Wallet - Tap on the three dots icon (...) on the top right corner of the phone - Select "Card Details" - Select "Open" in Suica Finance App (you need to download the Suica Finance app) - In the Suica Finance app, you will see the Suica card that you added -- tap on the card and you will see the full card number.

So if anyone else had the same problem as me in adding their details - like first and last name DOB - I just used Google translate to get the characters for my first and last name and your D.O.B in Japanese will be YYYY/MM/DD. For the zip code I just used random numbers id remember as that’s the only thing that worked. Hope this helps others.

@@ONEGOODDREAM I just manage to try registering with the option with SUICA card number. Part of the info needed is postal code but i am a tourist without local Japan postal code? (I tried my home country postal code it didnt work though) Any help is much appreciated !

EDIT: Title fixed, the previous one was iPhone AND ANDROID. Like many said, it only applies if you have an iPhone. I believe the last generation or 2 of Pixels are also compatible. If your Android phone has been purchased out of Japan, there's no way. The Suica app cannot be downloaded if you don't have a Japanese account. So basically the title should be "how to get + use Japan SUICACard on iPhone and only on iPhone.... Good thing the SUICAs are available again.

I am still confused how I could buy a return ticket Tokyo to Hiroshima without reservation and then buy separate reserved tickets for each leg of our journey between the two.

Your video was great! Very informative! I just got back from Japan. I go every summer. I only use paper tickets for the trains when I’m there. I don’t like the idea that the money I put on the card or app expires and that I can’t get a refund. If I could save the money on my app until I go back in a year I would totally use it. a couple of things to note in this video for tourists: YOU CANT USE THE SUICA APP!! IT IS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED ONLY FOR JAPAN RESIDENTS, while creating your profile as said in this video, you cannot enter a postal code and a japan number, which is mandatory to go further, that is why the app is not in English, they don't want the tourists to use this app.

@@user-lv9ty8qp1k yes you can buy a physical Suica card in Japan. Currently only the Welcome Suica is available (which is only for tourists and has a 24 day lifespan) but the normal Suica card should be available again this fall after being halted due to chip shortages.

Hey there. Now you don’t need to do all those steps for get SUICA number anymore. You just need to have the SUICA APP already installed on your iPhone, so you may press “CARD DATA” when opening the digital SUICA CARD on apple wallet. So, it will redirect you to the app with the card issued to you with complete number.

Thank you. It was helpful. I just realised the value of iPhone in overseas travel. Android phones sold outside Japan are not compatible with Suica or PASMO. I had some problem completing my field for my first name, which has 2 words, but the field only accept 1 word.

I am watching this from US and was able to set up SUICA card using Apply Pay. Fortunately I read Japanese so I can understand the instruction. However, the name part was a little confusing. When I entered the name in English, it did not take. I needed to use katakana for my name. Is this correct? Also if you are a tourist, what postal code do you use? I used the one for my first hotel. Again, that’s a little confusing. Otherwise, thanks for the instruction. It will be much easier to navigate Japan for my upcoming trip.❤

Thank you so much for watching!🙏 the name fields accept alphabet letters so that shouldn't be an issue. but it should be only one word per last name/first name. if you're just visiting for a short time, you can set up the Suica card in your wallet. Excellent vid! I have an existing physical Suica (not the Welcome Suica) that I have used on 3-4 previous trips over the past several years that I recharge every time I enter Japan. After watching your vid, however, I will try to setup a Suica on my iPhone Apple Wallet for an upcoming March trip to Japan. hi, as far as I know, the remained balance on your digital suica wallet won't be able to be transferred to another wallet. it can only be refunded/transferred to a bank account of yours, which has to be in Japan. therefore, it's best to use all the money on your digital suica wallet before you leave Japan. Thank you so much!🙏 Technically you can use either of those cards. I used both Visa and Master and they worked well (but mine were issued in Japan). it depends on how the security is set up in each country so you have to try to see which works for you.

Hi, thank you so much for watching!🙏 1) if you're just visiting Japan, you can try the below steps instead: - Open the Suica card in Apple Wallet - Tap on the three dots icon (...) on the top right corner of the phone - Select "Card Details" - Select "Open" in Suica Finance App (you need to download the Suica Finance app) - In the Suica Finance app, you will see the Suica card that you added -- tap on the card and you will see the full card number. 2) I don't get any additional processing fee. but it may be different by bank. so maybe you have to try it out once for your case. 3) yes you can get a welcome suica card for kids 6-11yrs at Narita Airport. hope this helps..

Alternative way to get physical card without 28 days limit: Visit JR Central Japan (JR東海) Tourist Center (JR TOKAI TOURS) located in JR Tokyo Station, and you can buy physical TOICA (IC card issued by JR Central Japan) and use it like other IC cards in Japan. (p.s. I bought my card at JR Shinzuka Station at October while traveling from Yokohama to Osaka)

Hi Yoko, great video. Quick question for you. I tried creating a member account under the "My Suica" option. I was able to enter ALL information except for postal code as it seems to require a Japan-based postal code (7 digits), which we do not have in US. Is there a way for foreigners to create a Suica card account with a card number so that I can attach my Shinkansen ticket to it? Thank you.

Thank you so much for watching!🙏 Regarding the digital Suica card, you can also get the card number after adding the Suica card in your Apple Wallet: - Open the Suica card in Apple Wallet - Tap on the three dots icon (...) on the top right corner of the phone - Select "Card Details" - Select "Open" in Suica Finance App (you need to download the Suica Finance app) - In the Suica Finance app, you will see the Suica card that you added -- tap on the card and you will see the full card number, which you can use to attach your shinkansen/express tickets to. hope this helps...

It's a frequently asked question from many of my friends who are traveling to Japan as it's not clear from other videos that state that the Apple Wallet Suica Transit card does NOT connect with Shinkansen tickets. So it was a bit confusing. Thank you for clearing this up. I hope it works out with the Shinkansen tickets since it has a JE# for the card.

Thank you so much!🙏 The Welcome Suica and Pasmo Passport are only valid for 28 days and are not available in Apple Wallet. if you add an IC card to Apple Wallet, you don't need one of those cards anymore. you only need one IC card (any kind) per person.

Thank you so much for watching!🙏 your digital Suica card does not expire in 28 days like the physical Welcome Suica card. the digital Suica card is at least the same with the normal physical Suica card, which is valid for 10 years since your last use of the card. if you have it all ready in your Apple wallet, you can use it the minute you land in Japan :)
