We don’t do screentime on weekdays, I’m wondering if there are any other examples of incentives that can be earned/unearned with behavior? I wouldn’t want to remove his free time playing drums or riding his bike, though those are important to him, they’re also just a positive activity each day. I can’t think of any other items or activities we could disallow access to that wouldn’t then negatively affect the whole family.

I wouldn't be able to answer without knowing your son's "currency", how old he is, etc. I would never suggest removing a musical instrument, exercise or outdoor play.

I’ve struggled with this one. My son is adhd and autistic. I use language of accountability and I tell him, “you didn’t do your homework this week therefore you have chosen not to earn your pocket money this week”. And he comes back angry as a bull saying, “you chose not to give me it!” He can’t seem to comprehend accountability. He’s so literal thinking. Black and white thinking. There is a loop hole in everything I try 🫠😭 and he will argue the toss even though I’ve been doing this for weeks. Anyone else out there have dual diagnosis kids?

This nothing to do with a dual diagnosis. I worked at schools for kids with higher verbal autism for years. Like kids with ADHD, they do not like being held accountable.. this, has to do with him being skilled at pulling you into the argument vortex. Do you expect him to say you know what You're right Mom It is my choice I'll make a better decision next time? Of course he's not going to say that he's going to put the blame on you for holding him accountable. Need to learn to not get sucked into the vortex. This is covered in Scaffolding Better Behavior and I also have some videos about it here as well.

This was very helpful. I’m curious to see how it works especially with my child who has ADHD and is oppositional (destructive in the aftermath of not getting to engage in desired activity). I’m curious to see if the accountability language will result in him not breaking things🙏🏻

The language of accountability alone will not result in him not breaking things, rather it's a combination of implement various strategies - creating daily expectations, enlisting supporters, letting them know how you will be changing in response to their behavior, etc. This is all covered in Scaffolding Better Behavior, the Parent Behavior Training program.

My child’s behavior is not just at home it’s at school as well. Will the program still be helpful?

If they school used the language and strategies in the program so there's consistency at home and school it would.

You can always slow down the playback speed a tad in the settings.

And how slow do you need him to talk. If you care enough listen again and again. It'll be better for you to lock in the information 😅 If it was too fast, it might be a vocabulary thing. I'm not judging just think about maybe it's not him or others first.

@@ADHDDudeI appreciate the fast talking because it keeps the videos short

Come on, this speed is nothing. I used to translate sitcoms for dubbing.
