Don't use the term "steam gauges" as the correct term is analog gauges. It is analog instruments versus digital instruments.

The biggest issue though is guys need to be careful about what claims they file with the VA. It can come back to bite you and you may have to get a special issuance, a statement of demonstrated ability (SODA), or get denied all together. It's an unfortunate reality that with aviation you're only one medical away from a career change. Good information brother, keep them coming!

Hey brother, thanks for posting this video. I’ve been active duty for the last 8 and half years and now ready to move onto the 1st CivDiv 😂 So what I got from your video is that you recommend going to a traditional college first to get the PPL then transfer to a different school to get the other certifications? What I read online is that GI Bill and VR&E won’t cover the PPL portion. Does that mean go do the traditional college route first? Thanks again.
@Barstool_cub_driver
@Barstool_cub_driver 5 месяцев назад
I recommend: 1. Use post 9/11 at a traditional college to get your PPL. 2. If you have a VA rating of greater than 10%, file for chapter 31 benefits (VR&E) AFTER you get your PPL. EXPECT A 6 month wait/lag time. So stay 9/11 until approved. 3. Depending on the college, PPL IS COVERED. You can check via the WEAMS System. Type “WEAMS VA” into a Google search bar.

Do you have any GI bill left? If you do, that will also support you at any part 141 college/university. The money will be deposited directly to you and you’ll be responsible for paying it instead. Normally the 9/11 GI bill directly pays the school.

@@Barstool_cub_driver Nope - my service dates of 1980 to 1986 predates the new GI bill. We had the Veterans Education Assistance Program (VEAP) back then. In order to do any FAA flying you’ll need a medical (minimum 3rd class). My recommendation would be to get the medical as soon as possible BEFORE the MEB is final. I was always told the GI bill would only cover upgrades to the license after already having a PPL. Just wanna fly.

You would enroll in a college that has PPL as part of their curriculum. You’d have a flight lab (where you’d fly) and a ground school class (prepare you to take the written). You could take the class and the lab, then “drop out” of college.

Study and don’t repeat any lessons. Your other option is to find a school (part 61) that offers flying lessons in a light sport aircraft (LSA) for your PPL,something like an RV-12. Additionally you can get your PPL checkride covered via the VA - see the WEAMS video (part 2) I posted.
