Having lived on Vancouver Island and several Gulf Islands for 40 or so years, ferry travel is such a normal, routine part of life that I forget others aren't as familiar with the process . It's fun to watch other people's experience what we take for granted. Hope you enjoyed the island!

Ferry travel with an RV has a few additional considerations, but is fairly easy. However, for most of the country and many international visitors, ferry travel is not common and so we wanted to be able to help folks out a bit.

Congratulations on the 3K subscriber mark. You've earned it with humour, good locations and lots of info (which must require a fair amount of research in advance). Safe and happy travels for you three!

Thanks Pete. We work hard to include as much relevant information about the places we visit. Glad to see it hasn't gone unnoticed. 😁

How awesome! This is our first time taking the ferry with our RV, but we've been to the island quite a few times. It has such a cool relaxed vibe.

Loved this... All too familiar as we take these ferries often. I don't think you would have needed to re-schedule because of your length measurement. If you are within five feet you are OK. I had same issue a couple weeks ago, heading to Salt Spring Island.

Glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah, unfortunately I had miscalculated a whole 9 feet out, and the ferry was 100% reserved, so they weren't able to adjust the booking by even 1 ft. We were super lucky that we were at least able to rebook for the same price on the same day. Just had to drive a bit longer on the island. 😁

It's so incredibly beautiful 😍 The water was nice and calm, too. We couldn't even tell that we were on a boat most of the time.

You can also get to Vancouver Island by taking the Gulf Islands ferry from Tsawwassen and visiting these Islands before taking a another ferry to Vancouver Island

And they only allow you 3 propane bottles don't travel any more they will take them away Can't wait to see some video of the island I miss it Marj hated it We were in the Winter though so is different,

@HomeARoam 2 года назад
Oh really? We didn't actually know about that limit. Good thing we only had 3! Although I can't imagine needing more. Yes, the island is very different in the winter. We lived in Victoria for a winter, but were lucky as it was a pretty mild one. Otherwise it's very wet, damp, and cold. Thankfully on this trip we're having amazing weather so far. Even in Tofino it's been sunny and dry. 🌞

Wow - we had no idea you had to be so specific about your vehicle and trailer length on BC Ferries. Always figured if you selected wrong, they would just charge you more at check-in, not make you change your entire booking. Funny cause when we took our SUV Camper on the Alaska ferry, we had to specify our vehicle length to the closest foot, which we’re not used to doing on BC Ferries.
@HomeARoam
@HomeARoam 2 года назад
Oh wow, so strange. I guess they must really pack everyone on that Alaska ferry. Yeah, BC ferries charged us more for the added length, and we were able to keep our booking for the way back, but sadly they wouldn't have had enough space with all the reservations they had for us on the way there. Bummer, but it all worked out in the end.

Hi! If you have an early morning departure can you sleep in the parking lot the night before you load the ferry?
@HomeARoam
@HomeARoam Год назад
That's a great question. We aren't entirely sure if that's possible or not. There aren't really large parking lots at the ferry terminals since all that space is taken up by the loading lanes where they que cars up before their sailings. They specifically tell folks to arrive about 30 minutes prior to their sailing if they have a reservation, too.

I'm so sorry for Canada. Most things about a good Canada are not true, Including clean cities - beaches, and forests. It's a big lie. The first time I arrived in Vancouver in 2018, I was shocked. As soon as I left the airport door, I saw tissue, disposable glasses, and other garbage left in the city. The further I went, the more I saw them. Before I moved to Canada, I lived in Georgia, Armenia, Turkey, Serbia, The United States, and for a short time in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Netherlands, Germany, and England, but I have never seen the amount of garbage that people leave in different Canadian cities. Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Quebec are no less than Vancouver. Canadian and Canada Governments don't care about this tragedy. I think everything that says about Canada as a clean and powerful culture is not true. You don't need to travel to Canada to see this. Just watch some videos about walking in downtown Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Quebec. You will find the truth. Impossible for you to walk in a Canadian city and you don't see the dark side of that. Everywhere you will see garbage. You will never see this in Europe, Australia, the United States, Japan, and Korea. This amount of waste is not even seen in Malaysian, Indonesian, or Thailand cities. It is impossible for you to use public transport and not see a lot of garbage at stations or on the route. You will be surprised to find a lot of garbage even in the woods - by the rivers and on the beaches in Canada. I wish the Canadians woke up and had no enmity with their country. To be fair, I randomly looked at videos from downtown Manchester and Concord in New Hampshire - Philadelphia - Detroit - Chicago - New York - Baltimore - Denver - Nashville, and Knoxville in the United States, and Toronto - Quebec - Montreal - Winnipeg - Calgary - Vancouver - Victoria - Ottawa and Thunder Bay in Canada. we should be fair. The bitter truth must be accepted. Without any exaggeration. Completely impartial. I have to say that I didn't see a single piece of garbage in any of the US videos to convince myself. Without exaggeration, in all Canadian cities, there must have been a piece of garbage on the ground less than every hundred meters. It must have an important reason. I do not know. But this is a bitter truth. You can try. This country should be brought closer to its exaggerated claim. the truth is bitter. Certainly, some Asian countries such as Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and even Malaysia are much cleaner compared to Canada. Of course, we should not forget that Canada claims to be one of the 10 cleanest countries in the world. And Vancouver claims to be one of the 5 cleanest cities in the world. Please go to East Hastings or Victoria Drive or Commercial Drive or West Georgia or Broadway or Main Street and judge for yourself. I am 50 years old and have traveled to 26 countries. Canada is far from its claims. I saw, homeless people, pooping and peeing everywhere and it's so common. nobody cares. I was shocked again. I endured for 3 years but every day going worst. late in 2022, I decided to move to the east because I thought that place has a stronger culture. I chose Montreal. I had heard it is the capital of art and civilization in Canada. it was absolutely wrong. Canada is Canada. I was shocked again, again, and again. the wave of homelessness, graffiti, vandalism, bad smell, terrible infrastructure especially roads in or out of the city, and above all, you can see trash everywhere. plastic bags, tissues, water bottles, and disposable cups. You cannot see any street or park or public place without these. This is impossible. surprisingly nobody cares. neither the people nor the government!!!!!!! please, don't be fooled by the advertisement about a good Canada. please, be careful. most of the things about a good Canada are deception This country is disappointing. Please, Please, Please, don't immigrate to Canada you would regret it absolutely. this is not a developed country, Canada is a developing country with huge serious problems.

Hey there, it sounds like you've had quite the global adventure! It's unfortunate to hear about your disappointing experiences in Canada. As a fellow traveler, I can understand how seeing so much garbage around can be a bit of a buzzkill. I guess Canada might have missed the memo on spring cleaning! 😅 Jokes aside, it's true that every place has its own set of challenges, and it's crucial to keep working towards improvement. You've certainly given us a lot to chew on. I hope your next destination brings you more joy, less garbage, and maybe even a perfect cup of coffee without a disposable cup in sight! Safe travels! 🚐💨🌎
