Oooo my gosh I've been trying different ideas for the last two days. Your option number one worked immediately. I usually give him and he throws up or spits it out immediately. When I put him down and popped it in it's like he didn't even notice. 👍 I'm subscribing

For me foodcoloring has also worked well. I let them choose the color and call it a magic potion. I say magic words while i mix in the color. It helps!

Good lord Nurse Liz.....THANK YOU! 17 yr RN, all adult ICU, TICU, SICU and now ED nursing. My years of critical care experience helps for sure, but even 6 years deep into the ED setting I am generally uncomfortable with the little humans simply 2dary to the fact that I am not a mother and have so little experience. I was an EMT and later a Medic before nursing and therefore had some peds experience and have been PALS certified for decades-- but other than pediatric clinicals back in school and those PALS re-certss, I have had no other pedi experience. To this day I am more comfortable with pediatric IV starts and the awful scenarios of pediatric resuscitation than I am administering medications to infants--or god forbid--the formidable 3-going-on-30 year old toddler!! I am not exaggerating at all in saying that your 11 minute video gave me more good tips than 20+ years in emergency and critical care nursing.' I am going to browse your videos now in hopes of finding other good tips in dealing with the pediatric patient. I am a great "go-to" nurse for difficult IV starts and am often asked to start a line for infants and toddlers. While my clinical skills r/t the insertion of the catheter itself are good---the approach and the care of the patient is where I imagine a lot of us nurses who lack experience with toddlers could use. All too often in the emergent setting--the tolerance of the patient to the procedure is secondary to the importance of completing the task....so if we ill-equipped ED nurses cannot quickly calm a sick child---we move straight to the papoose board to get it done. The same can be said for many invasive procedures, straight cath UAs, sutures. I've browsed content on these matters---and most good practice videos or articles come from unicorn-and-fairy-land pediatric specialty emergency medical centers where all this specialized equipment and staff exist. For many a busy city ER like ours, those resources do not exist. Yet we still need to care for, and stabilize these patients so we can then ship them to the children's hospital. I will be looking forward to learning more. Many thanks.

Thank you for your video. This is such a blessing! I have a two-year old son and he does not like antibiotics and antihistamines. It's been four days of struggle just to let him take his meds. I read one of your replies here from the "comments section", and you suggested in mixing the meds with ice cream. We tried it just this evening, and my son did not notice the meds at all.

I am having the roughest time giving my son his antibiotics 😣 he keeps it in his mouth and spits it out slowly and super super stubborn.. I’m worried of traumatizing him … can I mix his cephalexin with Danimals ? Or milk bottle ?

Hi Liz, I just found your video and subscribed! I have a 20 month boy who is gives me a hard time when having to give him his medicine. It’s liquid form and he just spits it out. He truly fights me and I feel bad trying to shove it down his throat with a syringe 😞 how much chocolate syrup can I mix in the medicine? He needs to take 4ml of medicine.

Thanks for sharing. I’m having problems giving my 18 month old daughter her multivitamin with iron. She use to be fine with it but now lately she doesn’t want it. I try to give her something to distract her but it doesn’t work. Any suggestions?

My baby is taking propranolol for SVT and now that he’s 5 months old he kicks and fights us off. It’s become so hard to administer. He ends up spitting it out. It’s so frustrating specially with his condition to know he isn’t getting a full dose.

How to give liquid medicine to 9 months old baby if he keep medicine in mouth only and does not swallow. Spitting back medicine. Crying and not opening mouth

Hey Liz, this is awesome, thank you! We have to give our son 3.5ml + 2ml of different meds twice a day, he is one and he holds it in his mouth and sometimes gargles it and spits it out. as it is so regular he knows the drill, what tips do you have? there are no pill alternatives sadly, it is the twice daily nightmare in our house :(

Should I avoid calling it Medicine and call it candy instead or is that lying? And maybe I should avoid lying to the child?

i have tried EVERYTHING!!!!! at least i think!! ive even tried mixing it with juice, like my doc approved. nope. then did the inner cheek slowly dispersed. and she just spits it out . she is almost 3!! so hard..maybe the blowing on theface will help. she wont even take the chewables....she has a fever and i usually have to get to the doc cause she wont take them. sooo hard

I'm going to try this trick tonight. Hope it works. My 13MO baby have to take 5 types of medication. And there's only one that he particularly like so much that he would take the syringe from me and willing to suck on the syringe himself happily. Then the others, he would cry or even spit them up with his mouth closed.

My baby is 14mos and she is literally struggling with just the sight of the medicine bottle. Even if we successfully inserted the medicine to her mouth and she swallowed it already she forces herself to vomit... Don't know what to do. :(

The video is nice, but I believe mixing with food to disguise the taste is something tricky. Some food should not be mixed with certain medicines.

Doesnt work. My baby hates it's she is one and thrashes and it don't matter if I blow in her face she will gargle it and spit it out every damn time. Idk what to do she has ear infection a cold with chest infection and possibly a UTI. Nothing works and she taste it in a bottle. I have had to hold her mouth open and blow in her mouth. It don't matter nothing works

Nothing works. My baby is miserable but keeps throwing up the medicine. It's always a fight trying to get her to take meds from a syringe. Heck I even masked it in juice and she's still puking it up after a few swallows. So over this.

My baby is fighting with us because we are giving her medicine

This technique doesn’t work on fuzzy kids or kids that hate medicine 😣

Thank you for your tips i have watched this video about 4 times now i have a 3 year old daughter n its been hell trying to give her medicine so bad where im finding myself crying because she needs the medicine... im am currently trying to give my daughter Tamiflu and im going to try the pedisure to mask the taste but what i have a problem with my daughter will spit it out and she has a cough so she will cough hard and throw it up i was wondering how do i avoid that from happening
