I'm a 53 yr old CNA and I've finally decided to go nursing school. I've always enjoyed being a CNA, but in the past few years, it's been really hard to make a living. I feel like it's a little too late for me to become a nurse, but there is such a shortage and I also want to upgrade my living situation.

how do you know what college to go to since there are prerequisites for nursing schools(different courses for most that i have seen) and what if you don't get into the one you took courses for specifically?
This is EXACTLY what I needed to hear! I've often heard horror stories about nursing school, so naturally I got into panic mode when I was accepted into my program. Though you don't personally know me, hearing from a current NP and former nursing student that I will make it through nursing school, is just what I needed.
@@GOKU8125 It turns out I never saw any of these comments, nor did I ever think people would respond! I finished nursing school in December of 2021, and this week I started my first nursing job 😄
I'm 42 and am working on my prerequisites before nursing. I dropped out of college 18 years ago when I was put on hospital bed rest with my oldest. Five kids later and I'm finally going back to finish what I started. This video gave me hope that I can do this, even at my old age. Thank you!
I've just been accepted to nursing school in Oklahoma City, to start January 2021! I'm 33 years old, a wife and mom and am getting really nervous about nursing school!! Our daughter is 10 years old and has a rare genetic disorder that causes epilepsy. She's g-tube dependent, wheelchair-bound, non-verbal but communicates with her eye gaze device. She's a princess girl and 100,000% the reason I want to be a nurse. I can be paid to be her in-home nurse for 40-hours a week, which is stellar! But also, we have had so very many doctor appointments in clinics and unfortunately many inpatient stays - when I see those nurses taking care of my girl I think "I want to do that for others, too!". Thank you so much for your nursing school content! I learn best with videos and note taking so I really hope my school is not book-driven learning! haha!
I’m a senior in high school and interested in going into the nursing field. This was the only video that made me feel like this is something I could actually do and not make me feel terrified.
I just got accepted to an ADN program at my local city college this coming SPRING 2022 (starting on Feb 7) and I’m so anxious because I literally have NO EXPERIENCE in the medical field. This video helps me mentally prepare it. Thank you so much for this video! 😄
😂😂 I’m dying at the “nursing mom “haha. I feel like that a lot on youtube with all the other young nurses haha. And I’m over here in with spit up all over haha. Thanks for watching, I’m so glad it was helpful! ❤️
How is it going? I've applied to some accelerated programs and hoping to get into one. I'm 44 and worried about being the ' old lady" in the class. Lol
Hi. Congratulations! I'm 48 and starting Nursing school in January!! Im always the old lady in class but you'll find the youngins are very receptive to us!! Good luck!!

Perfect timing! Starting in Jan. I was planning my break like I’m gonna wake up at this time and start study... knowing I need to take a break, breath, enjoy myself. I’m just gonna take care of myself and enjoy myself, fill my cup a little. Thank you so much!
how do you know what college to go to since there are prerequisites for nursing schools(different courses for most that i have seen) and what if you don't get into the one you took courses for specifically?
Literally I have been putting school off for over 2 years now because everyone keeps saying how hard it is. So thank you for the pep talk, I know this is the route I want to take, so I am going to tackle it this year!
Kristy Slicker I hear you. I have been pushing mine off too, but this year I am ready. I am starting RN program this Feb. I hope to fight till the end. Good luck to you too.
Thank you so much for making this video. You're right, I have been through so much and I have survived. I can do this. As a 40 year old single mother who has been caregiving for my own mom and spending lots of time in the hospital over the last 10 years, I have had the burning desire to be a nurse for years. I have also talked myself in and out of it, dropping out of prerequisites because I thought it was going to be too much and ruin my relationship with my now twelve-year-old son. It's videos like this that help to remind me that I have what it takes an I can accept the challenge humbly. I have survived so many other things. I can do this. From the bottom of my heart, thank you
You CAN do this! We are always our own worst enemy. I am a 27 year old male who has been dilly-dallying for years now, even though I know I could be a top-notch nurse. Raised by nurses. I always doubt my capabilities but I'm tired of limiting myself. I'm starting believe I too can do this. Best of luck to you.
I start Nursing School in 2 days (Jan 2nd). Have experience in studying with other degrees, but this will be totally different and more grueling 18 months. I'm a 31 y/o male starting this journey, have to work part time, but single with no kids so I can do it. I eventually want to be a Practitioner, but I'm really excited for this. Thanks for the advice, and Happy New Year.
Just got into an accelerated nursing program for Spring 2022. Thank you for this video, I feel a lot less anxious going into this new chapter in my life :D
I just applied to a nursing school and I was kind of hesitant of what is to come! But after watching your video, I feel so much more confident to take on whatever is going to be thrown at me in the next three years to come! Thank you so much for your helpful tips and kind words!
Hello! I went back to school after 20 years of working in a different career and raising a family... now I am just finishing up perquisites and will be applying to nursing school in May 2019! I found you and I am so thankful!! I need all the positive vibes :)
Me too!! I'm 38 and I start my accelerated program in November 2019! I've been an aesthetician for 10 years. Now, I'm starting over. I'm am so excited!!
Tiffany M. Prevost Awesome. Im 38. I became a Medical Assistant in 06. NEVER WORKED IN THAT FIELD because i got a Banquet job that paid me $36 and hr. ON CALL. Im a single mom. But my kids are grown. I wana go back to the medical field. Being 38. I thought i was too old. :(
From another nurse practitioner who has been through a whole lot of seasons of nursing school - you did a phenomenal job of explaining the process! It can be done - is it a challenge yep - but it is doable. You have to want it most definitely.
I am 36 year old and wanted to be a nurse since I was 18, but after hearing everyone say they struggled I didn’t think I could swing it. I’m finally deciding that even if I fail, at least I tried. Thank you for this information. It was very helpful!
I'll be 36 in a few weeks and in the same boat! I'm still confused on where to start since there are so many options, but I'm starting to feel like I can do this. And so can you!
Whelp..I am a 42y/o guy about retire from the Air Force after 22 years. Spent the entire time as a Firefighter. I started down the road to nursing school 20 years ago, but things kept getting in the way. Now, since I am retiring nothing else will get in the way. I start clinicals on 19 Aug 19 and I am so excited. Thanks for uploading all your videos, I like seeing the videos from a "more experienced" individual that the others that are from fresh outta high school and straight into college.
Daniel morris congrats on the retirement! My hubby will retire from the AF in a couple years, so I’m starting nursing school to help that transition. I also started this road right out of high school, but PCSing always got in the way. Now’s the time!! Good luck to you!
I'm starting BSN in Fall 2019 as an international student. I am not so much familiar with rules and regulations here in the US and have heard a few stories from other people about how they had to face racism in clinical for not having English as their first language. Also, I have a habit of studying at Night from a very young age. I am terrified and excited at the same time. I am grateful for the heads up you have given, now I am gonna try to change my habits before I start Nursing School. Thank you!
Thanks Liz for the Video, I go into the CNA Program this Year August 2022, Nursing School Starts October 2022 it’s a 12 month Program for LPN& I would love to go back for another 1 year in becoming a RN, I’m excited to Start your video was helpful& and really GREAT Tips🩺
Omg where were you ten years ago when I was terrified to go too nursing school?!?! You are so positive! The nurses at my job were not this positive about school
how do you know what college to go to since there are prerequisites for nursing schools(different courses for most that i have seen) and what if you don't get into the one you took courses for specifically?
My school is a bit different since I've been in the nursing program since freshman year and all my courses are specifically for nursing students and are like the prereqs. I think for choosing schools, I just looked Ay which one had nursing that I can take at a BSN level right out of Highschool, the location, and how great the schools financial package would be for me.
Watching this as I finish my first semester but still super helpful 😂 also yes 100000x to the whole idea that it’s hyped up to be the hardest thing in the world. I definitely heard that a lot, especially since I’m doing an accelerated program. I’ve had 1 or 2 exams a week which has been intense, but it hasn’t been as stressful/hard as I thought. But again, only finishing my first semester, so I guess it’ll only go downhill from here lol
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm 52 years old and fixing to enter the nursing program in the fall. I realize as an older student nurse it'll be harder for me, but I have learned from the years behind that many that are younger hasn't yet. I appreciate you!
I cannot thank you ENOUGH for these videos! I am 50 and just starting this journey. I take my college entrance test in a few weeks. I am taking it all in and ONE TASK AT A TIME, so I don’t overwhelm myself. These tips and insights are beyond appreciated! Again, THANK YOU!!!! 🙏🏼
I'll be entering into the RIBN program, four year program, where I'll be attending my community college and university at the same time. Basically, I will get my ASN in my third year. After that, take the NCLEX exam during the third summer. Then I will get my BSN in my final year. I'm very glad I got accepted into this program because it's about 40k to get my BSN. The program is very rigorous though. After that, I'm planning to get my NP and hopefully work at the hospice center. Wish me luck!
I’m not really sure how I ended up here, but I take my HESI exam tomorrow morning and hearing you say “think of all you’ve done to get here, you’re going to be fine” really hit home for me. I needed that reassurance, thank you so much for that and for all of the information you give in your videos.
i've been in the medical field for about 7 years already, mostly on the clerical side, and now i work as a porter. when i graduated high school i wanted to become a nurse but my mental health took a turn and looking back i honestly would not have survived nursing school and all the challenges. now that i'm 27 i truly feel ready to take the plunge! thanks for making this video, it's made me quite excited to get started.
Oh my goodness! Me too! I was starting to get discouraged and I felt like giving up and boom, I got the acceptance email. You can do it friend! I wish you the best of luck on your journey! We can get through this! 🤗
This is exactly the video I need. I start my nursing program in January! At the moment i've got a to do list full of things to do including recertifying my CPR, ordering my nursing kit and books, etc. A week and a half ago I went to the uniform store to try on the scrubs we'll be wearing for clinical/sim lab and it just felt really good. I know I hear so much about how hard nursing school is/how it was the hardest 2+ years of nurses' lives, but a voice inside my head says, "you'll be fine. Everything's going to be okay. You can do it, you can make it, believe in yourself." I'm looking forward to it.
I am planning to attend nursing school. Bumped into your channel. Thank you for sharing and giving some insight to have a positive outlook. I was once a pre nursing major in my younger days but changed majors. Now I feel that it is my calling to get back and be a BSN RN. I wish to fulfill this dream and help others.
I found your videos almost two years ago pretty soon after I switched my major to nursing. I remember watching this one in particular and feeling like I was never going to get in anywhere. I will be starting nursing school in January, and I finally get to come back to this video.
You're a breath of fresh air! Truly. I'm 25 , mother of four (7,6,5,4) Ive been told by everyone that I won't succeed. I won't make it. But this video is very motivating. It's been my dream to be a certified nurse midwife. This video is very informative and motivating. Thank you!
wow. i have been freaking out about starting nursing in september and feel like i really made the wrong choice. this is the only video that has helped me. thank you
Wish I had seen this video back when I first got admitted to nursing school but there was no RU-vid back then!😂i did psych nursing for 15 years and decided to stay home to raise my two babies(one is in college now and the other one in high school!) I applaud you for being such an inspiration.
I start LVN Nursing school in August. I'm excited but nervous at the same time. I have worked in healthcare for 20 years so I don't understand why I'm nervous, however, being a nurse has been my dream since I was little and I think that's 😅 why I'm anxious because my dream is coming true. Thank you for calming my nerves.
Thank you so much for this because I have been freaking out about "not being prepared." When you said "relax," as dramatic as it sounds, I nearly cried because it's so hard to know what to do/how to be productive/wise! 💛💛
I’m starting my nursing’s program in a week and I have been so anxious. I feel so unprepared and am so afraid of failing. Thank you for easing my mind! 😊
It's me watching this literally after dropping classes and deciding nursing has been something I have been wanting to do for a while. Im currently applying now. I loved this video. Super relaxing.
I really needed this video!! I just received my acceptance letter today 6/11/19. I start this August!! I have children as well and it feels good to know someone else can juggle having kids husband, Etc. and still excell in nursing school. I pray everyone achieves there goals as becoming a nurse. Yay us to coming this far! 🙌 WE GOT THIS
I'm getting my BA, but want to go into nursing knowing it helps people, it's in demand, and it's a good profession - this video helped immensely, thank you.
Hi I'm 19 years old I just found your channel with this video. I was accepted in Spring of 2019. Unfortunately I wasn't able to move on to the next level. Because I failed pharmacology, but I plan to reapply again for the fall hopefully I get in.
Keep at it! I have a video on how I made it through pharm if that would be helpful when the time comes. Pharmacology was my weakest class as well, so I feel that struggle. Hang in there!
You are a God sent!! I'm a pharmacy tech currently who never expected to want to work in the medical field but truly found a calling for it. I like being a tech but there isn't a whole lot of room for growth. I've thought about being a nurse for a while but have questioned and doubted myself and my ability to do it. I've never thought I was cut out for something like that and while I don't think bedside will be my calling (never say never but I highly doubt it), I definitely think being a nurse and particularly an NP is my calling. I'm getting the process started by asking questions and mentally preparing myself for the prerequisites and being in a room with people who are a decade younger than me (I'm 27 currently) :p
Love this!!😭 I start an ASN program this fall and I've had so much anxiety with people telling me it's going to be so hard and I'm about to have no life and I'm going to be eating, sleeping, and breathing school.... This video definitely helped calm some nerves!
This Video has been a breath of fresh air😭🙏🏿 i have been feeling elated and anxiety on how quick this process is going. Ill be starting on January 2023 so this video has been a big help thank you
Liz! That last tip was like a light bulb 💡 lighting up. Makes so much sense to come home from work cook and do hw before relaxing yet I have done the total opposite this whole time. Thank you so much for your videos please keep them coming
I am a field EMT and made the decision to start Nursing school. I love the field of emergency work and also want to stay in the educational side of it too. I am up here in Maine.
What's up? I'm a senior in high school. I'm a dude. I've recently been accepted into my dream three-year BS in nursing program. This year I'm going to EMT school to dip my toes in the water and develop some grit, technical ability, and critical thinking skills. I'm beyond excited for the next years of my life. Thank you for all of this incredibly insightful information.
I REALLY needed this, and am so glad I just found your video. As a first-generation college kid who is solely paying for college on scholarships, I am terrified that I cannot make it through nursing school. Though it is my calling, and I cannot imagine doing anything else with my life other than helping people. Thank you for the motivation. I begin college after this summer.
Amazing timing for me! It's finals week for my last semester of pre-reqs, and nursing school starts in just over a month. Almost time for 5 back-to-back semesters of stress, but it will be so worth it!
Starting my Direcr Entry MSN in August! I’m so anxious. But I am Older and I loved you mentioned meal prepping and having a strong routine. That’s exactly what I’m Doing because my routine is awful. Thanks!
I found this video RIGHT ON TIME! I start the traditional RN track in September. I'm sooo excited but my anxiety tries to attack me and turn my excitement into negative nervousness. The people that I know who are now nurses say "it sucks"...."it's the worse thing ever"... "I'm dead and I hate my life because of nursing school". Like you said, there's sooooooooo much negativity surrounding this fulfilling profession. So, I truly can't thank you enough for this genuinely positive & realistically happy perspective towards a notoriously rigorous program. I don't expect it to be "easy" but, I don't want to hate it either. So thank you again for this bit of sunshine. Peace & blessings 💕❤️
You got this! Definitely not easy, but not the end of the world for sure! I think some people just go into it with the mentality that it won't be time consuming, which is unreasonable, and then they label it as "the worst thing ever" when it takes up a good chunk of time. ya know?
I just received my acceptance letter for the ABSN program in the mail today! I am so excited!!! and I am so thankful I stumbled upon your channel!! Thank you so much for your videos. They are informative and super encouraging. I really appreciate that you take the time!
Can I just say that I was stuffing my face with wings at 1:35am while watching this?! Stress eating is real LOL Every nursing school acceptance should guarantee a free gym membership
This video really helps. I'm currently preparing for my entrance exam for nursing school. Thank you for sharing some advice and encourage us that we can do it! God Bless 💖💖
I start nursing school in late August and I’m excited but also terrified. This video helped a lot though so thank you for that!!! I will graduate in May 2021 as long as everything goes according to plan!!! Yay!!! Good luck to everyone else on their nursing journey:)
**New subscriber alert** Your channel is fantastic and has answered every possible question I could have regarding getting into the profession. Nursing has been a passion of mine since I was a child. In high school, I attended a vocational program and got my CNA. Unfortunately, life has taken me in a multitude of different directions, both personally and professionally, and I did not stay current on the requirements. Twenty-six years later, and the passion for nursing simply won't quit. As such, I have decided to pursue it again. I work full-time and have a demanding career, which is the only current drawback. However, before I dive in, I plan to devise a plan to ensure my success. Thankfully my kids are grown, and I am single, so I have no obligations other than my job. I can't thank you enough for this channel! Your enthusiasm for the work you do comes through the screen, and it is the needed boost for people like me :)
I watched this video when it first came out. This week I passed my TEAS and officially got my seat in the 2021 Nursing program! I am rewatching ALL your videos! Thank you ❤️
I am so happy I found your channel! I love your positivity and honesty. I recently found out I got accepted into the nursing program at the local community college, starting Spring 2020! Super excited yet nervous! Already subscribed; can't wait to binge watch the rest of your videos! Heading to IG after this ♥️
I have to say that this video (i havent finished yet) is like the best thing ever. I plan on going to college for nursing. And i havent even stepped foot into a classroom yet and i alrrady feel likebi can do this. Thank you for this video! And like someone else said you are like the nurse mom. I could so listen to you teach and talk for hours on end. And still be leaning in wanting to learn more.
Nurse Liz Thanks Liz! I'm excited but also nervous. Lol. But I'm definitely going to use your tips and try to calm my nerves as much as possible. I know that it won't be easy, but I got this! Well, I hope. Haha.
I am between nursing and a type of business major and I know nothing about nursing and the classes and I am not good at math and science so I was terrified to choose nursing but you made me feel a lot better about it. Just need to study and apply myself a little bit more. Thank you!
Ahh perfect timing Liz! Thank you for the helpful tips, I’m starting in January and I’m both excited and nervous. I have very high expectations for myself so I’m going to give it my 110%
Stick to that because you may say that you’ll give everything that you have but once you get used to the work you’ll give a little release. And near the end, wanting to be done is real and you have to push through. Sincerely a current nursing student.
I just discovered you today, and you are wonderful!! I've already watched 3 of your videos and look forward to watching more. I am 38 years old, married with two kids and began taking accelerated full time courses in Jan 2020 to get into the nursing program for Sept 2021. I worked full time at a children's hospital as an admin and wanted something fulfilling and decided to make this change as I knew I'd regret it if I didn't. I feel comforted to have these videos to refer to, thank you :)
I'm 36 years old and finally applied to get my nursing degree. I'm unfortunately losing my job as of Sept. 29th. I'm so nervous, but this video has helped. I have two teenage boys and want to make them proud.
I love this video! Thank you for sharing your experiences and tips. I was a CNA for 15 years before i decided to go back to school and it is terrifying at times. Im doing (almost done with) my pre reqs and my goal is to start a nursing program next fall. Thank you again and i look forward to watching your videos!
Yes I totally consider going to nursing school. After being in the hospital myself over the last few years and meeting some amazing nurses there and because my mom is interested in medicine I got even more inspired to become something within the medical field 😊
I’ve applied to nursing school (regular bsn) for fall 2019 and am waiting to hear back. Finally working on my last prereq this summer (microbiology ugh). I’m a junior with 3 more years ahead if I’m lucky! So glad I found this video!
