The missed approach is one of the harder segments of an instrument flight. Let's go step by step through the process of getting to minimums, not seeing the runway environment, executing a climb out, and starting the missed procedure, including coordinating our diversion with ATC.
This is the final part of our four part IFR flight from Waukesha to Eau Claire. Check out the full flight at www.flight-insight.com/post/i...

@@cmurphy3748 - Thanks! It's for Roscoe P. Coltrane on Dukes of Hazzard, and Lucy's maiden name in I Love Lucy.

To put a point on just visual conditions, be sure to only cancel IFR if you're certain you can meet VFR cloud clearance requirements through landing. A common mistake is canceling too soon during the approach while not having the required 500 feet below clouds separation in controlled airspace.

3 days ago I had my long IFR cross country with real IMC. It was very interesting. I'm on a final approach for checkride. Thank you for all your videos.

Dry clear at each step! Great stuff! I’m a way from starting instrument but this helps to have a good view of what that entails.

Another great video! You mentioned it, but It would also be good to hear the transition CTAF radio calls when entering the non towered air space. Keep the vids coming.

Great video especially the coverage of the RT exchange with ATC and what to expect. The only problem with the video is that it was released 4 hours ago and I did my IR check ride yesterday! 😂. I will be recommending it to a couple of mates who are a few weeks behind me on the course though!

Great video. Although I'm not sure to our "planned alternate" means anything to ATC. My understanding is they don't have that information. So maybe skip that and just name the new destination?

Was there a vector to fly instruction from ATC to St Paul's. Going missed, considering ceilings, alternatives and IMC, one would expect "a hand" from tower/ATC. Especially if no autopilot? 🌏🛩️
