Yes 100% once the gearbox is out for the low price of them replace both those gearbox input shaft seals. I never have lubed the rear main seal. But doesn't main you can't.

In truth I don't know, maybe 70% may be the same, the clutch will be hydraulic not cable, the gear linkage I would think is also different.

The 020 rod gearbox isn't too heavy, it's a lot little than the cable 02A gearbox.

yep as the 8V GTI has the same 020 gearbox.

You may need to press the clutch panel down a few times first and then try again.

The Vr6 uses the 02A gearbox, there are a few differences, that driveshaft flange which hits the back of the block can be unbolted on your gearbox with a 6mm allen key in the centre, oil will leak from it so remove the oil before hand, makes life so much easier. Your 02A has a hydraulic clutch so again makes life easy just unbolt the clutch slave cylinder from the gearbox.

The selector cables, the clutch slave cylinder, speedo wiring plug, and the angle to remove the gearbox due to the bigger flywheel.

What angle does it need to be as I’m struggling to get the gearbox off

@@BrandonhamonHD you need drop the engine slightly then with the gearbox loose, clock the gearbox anti clock wise.

The car Golf mk3.5 cab has the same engine/gearbox as the mk3 gti, off the top of my head there are a few other 020 gearboxs with near the same ratios but have 90mm driveshaft flanges and the smaller input shaft which means 190mm clutch instead of the mk3 GTI 210mm clutch.

OK you need to lower the motor slightly so it clears the chassis leg.
