As per my onetime experience in Pune INDIA, the seed has to be wet for a long long time to trigger germination. I had thrown away seeds as I thought them unviable. One seed was accidentally left in a semi closed wet tin left in my verandah for a long period & it sprouted. Of course there are many varieties of tamarind & I'm referring to one instance.
TheKiwiGrower Thanks! It's one of my favorites! They struggled a bit during winter though, but are recovering now. My tallest one is about 30 cm in height now! I could send you some seeds or fruits if you really are interested!
Oh that's so nice of you man, but it's all good - NZ has very strict biosecurity and don't allow seeds/plants into the country :/. Good luck with the tamarinds, sounds like they're growing well
You can just use some good soil try to keep the tamarind indoors first then when it’s old enough plant it on your back yard specially since in Houston the weather is bipolar.
