I randomly planted an avocado seed under the soil mixed with coffee in a whiskey glass just for the sake of an experiment and the seed grew into a sapling to my surprise in about a week. I soon transferred the growing sapling into a pot in my balcony garden. It's well fed and is growing healthy.😊

You might not even get a tree that grows real fruit. It’s really fucking hard to get fruit from home grown trees, even if you pollenate them.
@nexxogen
@nexxogen 8 лет назад
I used this method and the seeds usually sprouted, but not every time. But then I discovered an improvement to this method and the seeds will sprout EVERY SINGLE TIME, no exceptions. This works 100%. Here it is: After you peel the skin off, take a small knife and run it through the seams on the seed. You'll see the seams clearly - it is where the seed would naturally crack open. Using the small knife you wanna open the seed yourself, BUT make sure that the two halves remain connected with the middle part (the little thing that the plant actually grows from). If you do it so that in the end you can slightly shake both halves independent from one another, but that small thing in the middle still holds them together, you've done it right, after that do the standard toothpick thing with the glass of water and the plant will sprout 100% because the sprouting part will be in direct contact with water. The seed sprouted every single time I tried this, without a single exception.

@FredBTs
@FredBTs 5 лет назад
Joe Takacs you would need another avocado nearby for pollination but even then it’s highly unlikely that you would get edible fruit. The only way to do it is graft a known variety on to your root stock. It’s the same with apples, citrus and most other fruit trees.

Hey Joe! I effing love the end tale of that romance story! Ha! Put it out there. Be responsible and serious about information instead of pumping out ideas that most people may never give the years and understanding of what an avocado tree really is a freak of nature that it is. Yuck all ya guacamole loving bitches. Overextending a resource. Let's get ready for carrot soup. Yuck an emoji. Let's not bring in other details and when you will be able to harvest an avocado. It could be insultive.

We did this last year as a school project. Of the 12 seeds, only one sprouted roots. End of the school year (May), Tree was 13 inches tall. 13 months later, it stands about 2 1/2 feet tall (cool colors on the plant too). This year, I added a grow light to see if it would help - Started August 24th, Today Sept 20 - 8 roots out of 23 seeds, with several more looking to sprout. Hoping to have 15 trees over 20 inches by the end of the school year.

hey man, i did mine the easy way, i soaked the seed in warm water(until it cooled) then left it to soak submerged overnight, then in the morning i placed it in a pot plant to the side of a flower that was already growing, it sprouted and when it was just a sprout i transplanted it to a garden where i watered it every so often, when it got established i transferred it again to a large planter made out of a 200 gallon plastic drum cut in half.. it really took off then... its about 2ft tall with a lot of leaves that have started turning purple. (i don't really look after it anymore, i live in NZ so it gets watered when it rains) someone told me the other day that it will never produce fruit because it was an avocado bought from a store and that they breed them to not produce from seed growth only from clones of the parent and that the tree I'm growing will be a male fruitless tree... is this correct? am i wasting my time? i would like some avocados for guac for my nachos.... and this thing is really taking off...

Found this video in mid summer and tried it. I wanted to say I did everything he said and my avocado is now potted in soil and about 6 inches tall. It stopped growing for months at about 4 inches tall until I cut off 2 leaves and the thing grew an additional 2 inches in 2 weeks over a snowy Canadian Christmas. My avocado is in door in a 6 inch diameter self watering plant places beside a heat register but facing out the window. I used potting soil and a bit of miracle grow. I water it often because the soil dries up fast due to the heater. Hope this helps.

HI just wanted to throw in my experience.I started mine(Avacado Seed) in early spring, now it's 4 feet tall and living inside cause its 32 outside. It's like a child you get to watch grow into full potential. I don't know what I will do next year, cut a hole in my ceiling!!!!! I also go 2 yes 2 Mango to germinate from seed from the grocery store. They grow very slow. I love the sense of growing things, especially when they give you food back 1000 fold. Wow did I have a Tomato crop. Then in one night, went from 65 to 28, gone, all gone. Had tons of green cherry's but never would ripen. Well lets see what next season brings..."Grow Your Own, It's Worth all the work"

I live in the New Mexico Desert. It was about 60 in my back yard and no wind. I took my plants out for a treat of Real Sunshine. I cut the older leaves off my Avocado as the virgin leaves are maturing. I don't know what I will do with it when it gets to big to move. Maybe take it to a friend in California. It would never live here in the winter even if mature.

As an Arborist, I would recommend a Deeper glass and as the root you have there ran out of space, and started curling (Girdling root) which when planted, the roots and tree will grow but the Girdling (spiral Root) will eventually strangle the main root causing the tree to receive less nutrients and water from the soil and eventually decay the tree and kill it.

So I just planted it in soil in a pot. and watered it, went away on a holiday and came back to find a small tree starting. It is now about 3 feet and doing well. So now I am starting the second seed, after watching your video, I went back to my seed (that has been in water over a week) peeled the outside and reset it in the water. Looking forward to giving my daughter an avocado plant at Christmas. Thanks for the great tips.

The stage in the final clip is about 4-6months, it really depends on sunlight, it will take about 5-6months to get actual foliage like tangible leaves, but like I said, the most important parts is not letting the root go dry EVER, and lots of sunlight, a well lit window sill is perfect.

Nice timelapse! Always good to see fellow green thumbs! My method is this. 1.Get a plastic ziplock bag. 2.Wet a paper towel and squeeze it out just enough that it isn't dripping but still very wet. 3. Wash the avocado seed off in warm/cold water. 4.Wrap the seed so that it is mostly covered and put it in the bag. 5. Close the bag and leave it on the counter in the sun if you have it (not necessary). 6. Check periodically for the seed splitting and starting to grow a root. If the brown outer skin starts looking slimy take it out and it should peel or scrape off easily. Once it gets a decent root and you see a shoot or green nub pot it in some kind of topsoil (nub up root down). You can even gently pack soil in the ziplock and let it grow in there until it is a bit bigger. This method is just easier for me because I can throw multiple pits into a bag and start them all at once.

After watching this video 5 weeks ago i have put 2 seeds in a cup as instructed. I waited and waited and waited and after 3 weeks the seeds started showing signs of splitting, on the 4th the opened and now on the 5th week the roots are vaguely showing. So my final answer is you have to be BLOODY patient !!! Hope that this helps. In my opinion this should have been pointed out in the video :-@

You might want to googlize "do avocado trees grown from seed ever produce fruit?" Or "hass avocado origin". All hass trees are grafts from one, and only one tree. And that one tree was patented because it can't be reproduced from seed. Only grafted. Chances are, no hass, or any other avo seed will ever grow grow hass fruit. You don't need to remove anything off of it or make anything difficult. Every seed i sat on the soil and watered once a week grew. I use to try to start them how you show and had a lot of them fail. when i quit trying so hard and left it to grow more natural they all sprouted and grew. I currently have 5 trees.
