How to Grow Giant Rosemary from Cuttings 🌿

Take Rosemary cuttings from a mature plant and strip the bottom leaves before setting the cuttings in water. In a few weeks roots should start to form, and in a month the roots should be strong enough to support the cutting in free draining soil. Keep them in full sun and allow the soil to dry between watering. Up-pot the plants when they reach about twice the size of the pot they are in, and soon you should have a giant Rosemary plant.

I love in southern England and have a 10ft tall rosemary bush grown from a cutting and still growing taller, the only thing I can think of that promotes it's growth is the used coffee ground I throw at the base but apart from that it's been a very easy plant to grow.

Interesting. I transplanted my 3 inch tall rosemary plant because I had 2 in one pot the other day, it got sad and flopped over in the hot sun which had me panicked but I moved it to the shade and within a few hours it was upright again. Now today we had extremely hard rain and it got worked by splashing dirt in it's new pot, I worry it might die but I'm not convinced yet. My instincts vs what I read or watch sometimes are just next level.
@FirstLast-numba1
@FirstLast-numba1 Год назад
that does not make any sense because you can take a cutting and plant it directly into the soil and it will root. it died because of poor care.

I absolutely LOVE the smell of rosemary FROM THE PLANT. The oils are hit or miss dependenting on who sells it. Q. When the rosemary flowers can you still use the herb or does it taste differently? I hear people say stop plants from flowering cause it makes the vegetables taste bitter or different. I was wondering if that is across the board or not so with certain Ways of gardening like back to eden or no dig gardening?
@ThePurpleFlower
@ThePurpleFlower 2 года назад
I too love touching the plant because of the amazing perfume! For some reason, my Rosemary dies easily :-(. I have tried getting plants from the nursery, and from online stores. But after a month or so they die. I'll keep trying. I have one tiny Rosemary cutting in a bottle that I watched every day to see if it was growing roots, and nothing was happening. So I finally forgot all about it, and yesterday I suddenly noticed it again after I don't even remember how long, and I saw it had new leaves growing!! I was so excited, I removed the aluminum I had covered the bottle with to check if there were roots, and YES! There are roots on my tiny delicate Rosemary cutting!! Super happy about it. And I hope this one lives when I transplant it. I don't even live in a cold place! I am in the super sunny Bay Area California! So I must have a special talent in killing the Rosemary.

I have a shrub sized rosemary in my greenhouse but it moves to my patio for summer. I have had lots of different types of rosemary plants over my 71 years. Look when you buy one,and if they have a broad selection, some will be like yours with upright growth. My current plant is like that but as I snip off, it has branches into a full ball.

@twiggidy

He's absolutely correct. I live in the Bay Area and rosemary bushes can be found just walking through neighborhoods and people never water them and remember we live in a drought state. Let the soil get bone dry and then drown it and forget about it. Also, yes, absolutely bathe it in sun (which also helps dry it out).

@@GiveitaGrow are the tips may even counterproductive? My sister told me that on some plants there are hormones in the tips that prevent the growing of roots and need to be cut off for the best result. But I have no idea...
@KromeDragon
@KromeDragon 4 года назад
@@holycow4691 tips produce a hormone called auxin that prevents branches to force more energy towards growing towards the sun. Auxin travels and accumulates downwards and encourages the roots to grow.
