Yes, it might be winter in England at the time of posting this video, but here’s a little video I filmed in the summer, showing you how to plant lavender in pots. Now I’m sharing it with you all for the first time. This is a job you can do anytime of the year. So, sit back and enjoy my tutorial :)

Extremely helpful instructions. I may have to translate the soil components into what's sold in US markets though thankfully your descriptions were specific and clear. I want to grow lavender and other pollinator magnets because we can't have horticulture or agriculture without pollinators.

I would like to remind all that if you are planning on leaving pots outdoors in the winter the plant must be zoned safe 2 zones colder than your area. So if you are zoned 6 like I am you will need a plant zoned for zone 4. Or you can bury the pot in a raised bed over the winter.

I did. Straight after planting. Then I just leave them. Never watering. But in intense heatwaves, might need some water of an evening or early morning x

If your balcony is facing west then it should do well.

Hi Darren, when do you prune your lavender and do you cut it back hard? Also, reading Monty Don's book and he leaves his shrub roses really tall,( sometimes uses a hedge trimmer) ,he says they flower just as well as any other pruning method. Interesting 🤔 🍀🌻🌼

Prune straight after flowering - not too hard as lavender struggles to grow from the more woody growth - cut back to signs of life. I don’t have space to leave my shrubs large :/ xx

Can I use perlite with the potting soil? Will that provide adequate drainage?
