In this video I demonstrate how anyone can grow mushrooms from ready rice found at your local grocery store. No preparations necessary!
This method is by no means a professional way to grow mushrooms and should not be used to start an important bulk grow. It is a very cool way for a beginner to see how mushrooms grow in one easy step.

How interesting. I love the makeshift-ness of this. People here are acting like it has to be a perfect yield, but the fact something like this is possible out of some Ready-rice is so cool to me.

The fact is it can be a perfect yield depending on a few factors. There is little difference between a grain spawn bag and these rice bags. The only problem is the small amount of spawn and the waste.

Quick tip, once you sterilized the needle with fire you don't need to clean the soot, the soot is also sterilized.

I don’t understand the need for the flame sterilisation. The needle tips are already sterile, if tip is just opened before use I would think that any activity that extends the tips exposure to a non sterile environment would increase risk of contamination. But just a thought.

Huh, never really thought of just fruiting directly from the bag... I imagine Spawning to bulk will produce much more, but what a cool step up from a basic already inoculated grow kit.

when cutting open the bag, you could have added pasturized coco coir and did a break n shake, mixing the coir into the rice, it would have produced bigger fruits having the wet coir contact while growing

@@HGICQueenDiamondAries substrates are necessary for spawning to bulk, adding anything in the process comes with a risk of contam but a block of coco coir is typically in sterile packaging.

I don't usually consume refined oil, so I avoid sautéing them in oil. I usually use water, and sometimes mushroom soup to cook them over the stove. Thanks for the apple cider vinegar addition, it's something I use often, but never thought to try it with cooked mushrooms.

Dates engage needle that you're using also comes pre sterilized so there's no need to flame it on the 1st injection

That was as simplified as it can be, but if you wanted more yield maybe add a Substrate, they would of grown much more happily. However great Job this proofs that anyone can grow mushrooms!

Thanks for watching! Think about how mushrooms emerge on the forest floor with indirect light showing through the canopy of the tree tops. Setting it on a kitchen countertop usually is good enough.

75-78 F for colonization. Light and humidity doesn’t matter during colonization. Once the bag is colonized, it should be cut and placed inside a humid environment with frequent fresh air exchange for best results. 80% -90% humidity during fruiting.

I didn’t do it in a still air box and I ended up managing to grow successfully. I just made sure to sterilize everything and to use lysol disinfectant spray in the room.

@@MissCheryl33 much more complicated and requires much more tools. Maybe try the Uncle Ben's rice and see how you like it. Then just look up "making your own seed spawn" you'll need jars, foil, rye berries, gypsum, water, bowls, large cooking pot and a pressure cooker(absolutely necessary)

Yeah just let them sit in a warm room for a few weeks then cut the bag open and mist like 4 sprays, so not much water, a couple times per day and fan it for a couple minutes each time.

Once you cut the bag open, the rice should be fully colonized with white mycelium. If it is fully white, it is safe from contamination once exposed. The mushrooms in the video are not magic, they were used as an example. The method does work for magic though.

Reishi and Shiitake I'm pretty sure will not produce fruits on rice. They can colonize rice, but need to be transferred to a substrate with a proper wood type to fruit properly. I'll be trying to grow shiitake and lions mane with some poplar sawdust relatively soon.

It’s very important that during incubation the temperature is at least 70 F. I use an electric space heater in a 10 X 10 room with automatic thermostat to keep consistent temperature.

Most likely they will still finish colonizing while starting to fruit. Worst possible outcome is uncolonized grain is more susceptible to contamination especially if it is on top.

The smaller the hole the larger fruit you will get. If you do make a long cut, make sure it doesn’t dry out.

You can try placing them in a warmer spot, mix the rice more with your fingers, or inoculate with more liquid culture next time. Try making more than one bag so you have better chances. It also depends on which species you are using, some take longer than others.

This is the best video ive seen on this method. You are a legend bro. Would it be possible at the fruiting stage to lie the bag down on its back, cut most of the front open, dunk it for a few hours, drain and then place inside a propped up sealed with tape plastic bag with some microtape air filter holes? Then bring into the light for 12 hours per day

Black is not good, I would put it outside to continue growing. You will need to try again with more sterile technique or better culture.

Commenting again! Last questions hopefully. Apologies! Ive been told that becuase its winter and not as warm in my house (it can be 5-10 celcius) is it not possible for me to innoculate and grow? Is there any way for me to counter this? Or could they still fruit? Just any way around this if you can help id appreciate it! Ive been recommended to use a heat mat, would trust your feedback in terms of when to use it

I was able to do it in the winter. By putting the 2 bags into a container, closing it, then put that into another container, & put 2 cups of boiling water inside the container & close it. That's how I incubated them.

No I just misted them, it just takes time and patience. It would definitely help if you just chop off the top and put it in a shot gun fruiting chamber or a grow tent.

Not really but you never know. You can consider this method “fruiting from grain spawn”. To get bigger yields you should add the colonized rice to some pasteurized straw in a bucket with holes.

Once the grain is fully consumed by the mycelium it becomes resistant to contamination, that is why you can cut open the bag when it’s time to fruit.

Nope. You know they are healthy if they smell like fresh nature. Not sure how to explain it, kind of like the smell of the outside after it has rained. Smells real nice but if it smells bad trash it.

No it’s just easy. You do get less mushrooms though u less you use it to spawn substrate.

Is this for any strain? I know usually you tranfer mycelium too bulk when it comes to psilocybin. Could i just let psilocybin grow like this with no bulk?

I'm wanting to see if the vermiculite I bought at a grocery store is sterile or not. Should I sterilize it some way? If so which method do you recommend to sterilize the vermiculite?
