How lovely! I never knew that peas had such cute flowers, they look just like white sweet peas (although I guess that's why sweet peas are called that!). Thank you for the lovely video!

Absolutely, the flowers are so beautiful. Sweet peas are of same family of any peas so the flowers are kind of same looking. So glad you loved the video and thank you so much for your comment!

Awesome results as usual. I tried these last year and started them off in the seed pods they really thrived until I transplanted them in the containers just like the ones you have. I didn't have enough sun to keep them thriving. The stalks turned yellow and then they just basically weren't able to produce. I have a new location that has full sun and I am going to start my seedlings indoors this weekend and try again! Your channel is such an inspiration for an newbie gardener like myself. Thank you as always for sharing.💕
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden Год назад
I can totally relate to that. I have a limited garden space and not every place gets sun all the time. So I try to find best places for different plants and most of the times it takes more than one trial. You learn as you go and I definitely encourage you to keep trying. As always, thank you so much for your inspiring and thoughtful comment!

This video inspired me to try peas for the first time and I'm excited that they are growing well in their little plugs. They are now ready to be transplanted into the bin, but I'm a little unsure on the "Potting Mix" you describe as potting soil + compost that I fill it with. Could you help demystify this for this new gardener? Thanks so much!
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden 8 месяцев назад
Glad your plants are doing great 👏 👏 For the soil, you can either use general purpose potting soil, OR use the mix that i showed in the video (compost+Peat/coir+perlite). Either options will work. If you are using any ready to use potting mix, then you don't need to add compost ( actually as shown in video @ 1:59, you need to avoid adding too much compost). Either you use potting soil, or mix it yourself, it is a good idea to add a handful of bone meal ( @1:50) to help plants produce more fruits. Hope this helps. Wishing you a great harvest and thank you so much for your comment!

Such an AWESOME video and tutorial!! Perfect timing since I have my first ever pea shoots and this just helped me out SO MUCH, thank you!!! I wanted to ask, do you only cut of the pinch shoot once at the very beginning and then not again? And I have to watch and stop to see exactly what a pinch shoot looks like and where to cut it off. Im new to gardening and any tips are so welcomed!! God bless and thank you again for sharing such a great video!!
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden 5 месяцев назад
So glad you found it helpful. Yes, you just pinch out the tips once (when they are 4-5 in, 10-15 cm tall). This will encourage bushy growth, and more side shoots will results in more pods. Happy growing and thank you so much for your comment. God bless😊💚

Nice video thankyou! I had thought peas needed supports to grow but your video shows its not critical. How often did you water and did you need to add additional feed to the soil over time?
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden Год назад
Yes, there are two type beans/peas: pole type which need tall supports ,and bush type such as this one which don't grow tall and are bushy. For fertilizer you can use bone meal as shown in video (3-4 Tbsp every 2 weeks). But you need to avoid using high nitrogen fertilizers like manure. And keep plants well watered and never let soil dry completely. I watered every other day but it depends on the weather. Hope this helps and thank you so much for your comment!

I want to try to grow snap peas. Though I think I missed the time to sow them. Did you sow them in the fall or early spring?
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden Год назад
This is this years crop since we have a mild winter. Early spring is the best time for peas, and if it is getting hot, try early fall or late summer time. But I think you are still good to plant them. Happy growing and thank you for your comment!

So simple and easy guide. What potting mix is made of? Thanks
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden Год назад
As shown in video at 1:44 it is made of equal parts of compost, peat moss/coir, and perlite. And I added the bone meal. Peas just need average soil so do not add too much manure or nitrogen to the soil. Thank you co much for your comment!

Hi, u did not show if the peas need self germination or we can leave them alone to produce?
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden Год назад
Hi, if you mean pollinating flowers to set fruits, no that is not required. Peas flowers are self pollinating. Thanks for visiting.

How do you know when to water the seed starting mix? I know there is yhe trick of using finger to test soil moisture, but the tray cups are quite small and I'm afraid that may disturb the seeds/seedlings.
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden 9 месяцев назад
The key is to keep the soil moist, but not soggy. Wait until top layer of the soil is dry and then water. Normally I would water seedlings about every 2-3 days. Thanks for visiting!

Great video. How do you make the holes in the container?
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden 6 месяцев назад
Glad you enjoyed it. I use 1/2" drill. Spade or flat wood drill bits work great. Check my other video for pumpkins ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--5NIFrh5QDI.htmlsi=LI3Jd5etfWcB3iAl at 1:46min for a quick visual. Happy growing and thank you very much for your comment!

Did you have to harden off or just planted them right in the the containers after seed starting them indoors
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden 5 месяцев назад
I try not to keep my seedlings indoor. As soon as they germinate, I take them outside and if it is too cold, I keep them in a cold frame or clear tote with some holes. you can bring them inside at nights if it drops below 40-5-F. The seedlings enjoy it and adopt to outdoor conditions well. Thank you for visiting!

I am curious. Are you using dr. Earth fish bone meal in this video? I am growing peas and it is already more than 5 inches because i planted about a month ago. I wish i found your video earlier. Now, i am transfering to 18 gallon container and i am not familiar with bone meal. So which one do you recommend?
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden 3 месяца назад
I used Dr. Earth bone meal (not fish bone meal, although that works too). I have listed few bone meal options in my amazon page. you can use any that suits too, they all work amzn.to/3y4Bx6l . Hope this helps. happy growing and thank you so much for your comment!

@TowardGarden

As said in the video it is to grow more side shoots and more pods. But you can grow any way you like. Thanks for visiting.

Is it too late to start peas in zone 7
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden Год назад
Not that you cannot, but to my experience peas taste best when grown in cool weather. I suggest to wait a bit and sow in late summer for fall crop. They will also be less prone to fungal disease. Hope this helps and happy growing.
