Hello, this is Algae.
Pecans were a very unfamiliar ingredient to me.
I first came across pecans through cafes and bakeries, and at the time, I thought pecans were a spice or a type of coffee (like mocha).
Now I know that pecans are an attractive nut that is taxonomically related to walnuts.
Recently, pecans have been produced by farms in Korea.
I am happy that pecans, which were dependent on imports, are easily distributed.
Today, I tried to grow attractive nut pecans.
I hope this video will give you pleasure.
Have a nice day :)
Thank you.

Great job explaining about a tree that has been in my life and actually in the life of my family members for generations. Today i went to my great grandmother's old house where the huge pecan tree is that we used to gather pecans from every year. This time i found an old wet piece of wood had fallen over onto the grass near the tree. So I was cleaning up and picked up the rotting wood only to discover underneath 5 pecant that had sprouted!!! I am SOOOO thrilled that I found them!! My great grandfather planted that tree when it was less than 2 ft tall and it's now over 25ft tall with a huge limb spread and fat trunk. I now have the ability to have clone babies of the tree my grandfather planted and that we ALL ate from for generations!!!! I can give the trees to members of my family to let them carry on the tradition of planting this exact tree in their special place and watch it grow and their offspring can enjoy the fruits of their labor in times to come. Just thought I would share my excitement and your video gave me exactly what i need to help my baby trees grow!! Thank you!!

Hello this is Algae. Thank you for sharing good information :) Recently, pecan farms in Korea have been forming on a small scale. Although it is similar to walnuts, pecan's cultivation methods are not completely identical, so it seems to be heavily referenced by the farming methods of America, the birthplace of pecans. Thank you for visiting. Have a good day :)

Hello this is Algae. Thanks for sharing your story :) I always admire large gardens abroad. In Korea, even having a small garden near home is very difficult. Anyway, I hope the new pecan trees you sprout will be nice trees. Have a good day :)

Thank you for your video. I have followed your instructions for 13 nuts I found outside of the post office where I get my mail. I hope they sprout because I did not keep them in the fridge, but I did sample 2 of the nuts and they were good except one was dried. I was unsure about storing after I place them in soil, but I re-watched your video and read some of the comments and replies.

Hello This is Algae. If your seeds are of good quality, they will surely germinate. A warm spring has arrived in the northern hemisphere right now. Water the seeds to germinate safely and prevent the soil from drying out. Have a good day :)

Thank you for the simple and clear demonstration. I have been searching how to grow pecans from seeds in shell. The first recommended step was "cold stratification" or keeping the whole pecans either wrapped in wet kitchen tissue paper or simply in a sealed bag in a fridge for months or weeks. Did you leave the soacked pecans indoors or outdoors?
@Algae_algae
@Algae_algae Год назад
Hello, this is Algae. Thank you for leaving a nice question :) The pecans I have germinated are some of the things I kept for use as food. They are naturally dried pecans harvested in the fall and stored in a refrigerator (4°C). Among the pecans stored in the refrigerator for more than 2 months, I picked those that looked suitable for germination as seeds and sprouted. Seeds can be cold stratified by simply storing them in the refrigerator for more than one or two months. I recommend cold stratification of naturally dried seeds, not cold stratification of undried seeds or seeds wrapped in wet paper towels. If you want to proceed with cold stratification in a wet state, beware of spoilage caused by microorganisms. Have a good day :)

@Algae_algae

Hello this is Algae. Thank you for the nice question :) I kept pecans in the refrigerator to keep them as food. At the same time, the seeds undergo stratification during storage in the refrigerator. According to my knowledge, it is necessary for the seeds to be stratified by exposure to low temperatures. Stratification is essential for high germination rates, although a few seeds will germinate without stratification. I recommend stratification under low temperature conditions for 1-2 months or more. Have a good day :)

Hello, this is Algae. Thank you for leaving a nice question :) I put the plastic containers in which the pecans were planted indoors, and the pecans germinated at a room temperature of 25℃. According to many previous academic studies, it is known that a low-temperature (about 4℃) condition is essential or helpful for the stratification of pecan. I agree and support the opinions of these studies. I bought pecan from a farm in late winter. On the farms that produce pecans, their produce is properly air-dried and stored in cold storage. Probably the time I bought the pecan was around 2-3 months after their harvest had been stored in the cold storage. Therefore, I thought that the seeds had already been stored at a low temperature for a sufficient period of time, so I did not apply any additional low-temperature treatment and planted the pecan. I recommend low-temperature treatment for at least 1-2 months. I hope your question has been resolved. Have a good day :)

Hello this is Algae. I'm glad my video can be helpful to you :) I agree with you. I also believe that it is economical to produce understock (as a material for grafting) by ourselves. Although there are specialized understock varieties, I think other general varieties will suffice. In Korea, mandschurian walnut (Juglans mandshurica) is often used as understock for walnut (Juglans regia) and pecan (Carya Illinoinensis). If you have the opportunity to obtain mandschurian walnut seedlings, I recommend taking advantage of them. Have a good day :)

At which age a seed grown pecan shall bear the fruits
@Algae_algae
@Algae_algae 6 месяцев назад
Hello this is Algae. Thank you for leaving a good question :) It is very difficult to predict when trees grown from seeds will produce fruit and seeds. It takes at least three years, and the time when the first fruit is produced varies from individual to individual. I'm sorry for not giving you a clear answer. And I hope your tree rewards your patience. Have a good day :)

As you are growing the pecans, after they start sprouting leaves how often you you water them.
@Algae_algae
@Algae_algae 5 месяцев назад
Hello this is Algae. Thank you for leaving a good question :) I focus on maintaining a certain level of moisture rather than watering at regular intervals. When the soil surface becomes dry, water abundantly until the entire pot is thoroughly soaked. I remember watering once every 1-2 weeks during the wet season, and 1-2 times a week during the dry season. It depends on the environment. If you grow it outdoors in the open, you will need to water it once every 1-2 days. Have a good day :)

Channel Locks Work Much Better Than Pliers For Cracking Pecans And Other Nut Shells.

I also use 10" Grove Joint Pliers (aka channel lock pliers) to crack the shell. Allow them to open air dry for 3-4 or more weeks is also very beneficial for the cracking and subsequent kernel removal.

@Algae_algae
@Algae_algae Год назад
Hello, this is Algae. Thank you for watching my video :) I bought pecan from a farm in Korea. In Korea, pecan is consumed by bakery ingredients and drinks like hazelnuts, but most pecan supply depends on imports from abroad. Recently, a small number of farms attempted to produce pecan, and I bought their early products. Most of the pecans imported by Korea are the products that have been removed the shell. If you want to buy a pecan that is not removed the shell, you may have to visit a farm that grows pecan or find a special supplier. I hope you can get the right seeds for growing pecan. Have a good day :)
