Thanks for your insights on growing stevia. You did a fine job .I like your accent Here in central Florida I grow stevia in big pots and they do well but the seeds are tiny so they need fine soil or seed starting mix and careful watering for germination. Hope to catch your other vids.Have a super week,mate.

Also im having a problem with slugs cince the fires, there been after the chicken food bags rather than the plants until this summer. so thanks for the heads up on that one I wouldn't have thought about that. Eager to checkout your link on snails and slugs. Well done

Dude why did you plant that Stevia in one corner of the big pot ? I didnt hear you say why later on in the video as you said you would explain.
@JacobsBackyardGardening
@JacobsBackyardGardening 4 года назад
That was because I planted a small flowering bush on the other side of the pot, so I wanted to make room for it! Cheers Barry

It is! Torturous, 😂. I finally ended up getting some BEAUTIFUL starts on Etsy from a wonderful seller. Packaged extremely well with no soil loss and they have been happily transplanted. So far, so good. My biggest issue is overwatering so I’m being really conscious of that. 🤞

Thank you. I am thinking of getting a Stevia plant and was wondering how well it would do in about the size pot you have it in. I read that it grows to about 3ft X 3ft so I didn't know if it needed a huge pot.

@JacobsBackyardGardening

Nice, its great to grow! Although seeds are very hard to germinate so I buy seedlings, but you might have a better climate. I water mine every few days. Cheers Karen, all the best with it!

Can I grow in Newzeland climate
@JacobsBackyardGardening
@JacobsBackyardGardening 5 лет назад
If you are in a warmer area then absolutely, if you're in the cooler climates than if you grow it in a sunny location and can bring it indoors if it snows then it should do well. Cheers Kishan

Where can I purchase the seeds? I would like to grow some stevia plants to use
@JacobsBackyardGardening
@JacobsBackyardGardening 5 лет назад
A lot of online nurseries have stevia seeds, although they are particularly difficult to grow from seed (as in germinating them) so I've found it more time and money efficient to grow them from seedlings. Cheers Rockj

Does this sugary plant attract ants?
@JacobsBackyardGardening
@JacobsBackyardGardening 4 года назад
It can, but only if it infested with aphids or another honeydew secreting insect. Ants don't directly feed on it. Cheers Cons

I want to grow stevia this spring but it’s my first time growing anything and I feel like I’m going to mess it up. Do you have any tips for me??
@JacobsBackyardGardening
@JacobsBackyardGardening 5 лет назад
That's awesome! Sure do! keep it in a sunny and warm spot, keep the soil moist and look at the leaves (as weird as that sounds). The leaves (should be dark green and firm) tell you when the plant is deficient in certain nutrients and water. Hope it goes well for you Seb! Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with.

How do you use the plant to sweeten? Like for coffee?
@JacobsBackyardGardening

Sometimes I'll add it to hot drinks. Otherwise using fresh chopped leaves into fruit salad is really nice!
