How to Grow Sweet Peas from Seed

How did it go?

@@MrHarryHewitt1983 I planted these beautiful deep red sweet peas and they grew like nothing I've seen before! Part of the leaves turned a whitish color so I don't know if they got sun bleached or sick. I might plant more next year :)

Good luck with your growing! I have never had any failures using the method explained in the video.

I think that most of us start growing them too late in the season. They like cool weather. If you have hot summers, gotta get them up and sturdy rather early or they never seem to find their legs.

Patricia, plant your seeds about October. keep them cool outside in a greenhouse or cold frame. You can plant them out in spring even when frosts are about. they are super easy to grow, like most peas or sunflowers.

There are dwarf varieties that only grow a couple feet tall. They need less support.

LearnHow2 I had a very good gardener when I was growing up she was a conservationist and at the age of 12 we walk round Grappenhall in Cheshire to find all the wildflowers and fauna as I grew up she knew I wanted to be a florist but also a Gardner if I called and without me knowing Lilly wrote to the town hall and I’ve got an interview and got a job working as a Gardner and florist at Walton Hall Gardens I absolutely love working there but then later on I got married and had children and ended up working with special needs in the garden centre called Walton Lee project I help set it up for seven lads and they were special-needs and I worked there for seven years and then retired I still do my garden but what I wanted to tell you yeis that lily use to dig a trench and would put straw and newspaper in the hole along with horse manure put the soil back on top and plant the sweet peas in that and all I can say is she was right because that’s what I do now and I get amazing flowers from this God bless Lily she is no longer with us as she passed away a lot of years ago xx 😘 but I still think about her when I plant my sweet peas xxx 😘

Yes, in the UK we can have frosts until early June so I keep all my tender plants in the greenhouse until then.
