for years I was trying to mastered thyme growing in great volumed for years and I could not get it mastered at all and you show me how, Thank you very much.
Thank you!! Like everybody else has said, fantastically straight to the point and easy to follow. I'll be planting some once spring hits here in Australia and now I know exactly what to expect :)
Great video.. no nonsense and full updates. One tip though.. thyme would rather like its soil on drier side like lavendars rather than keep it moist all the time
Hello, great video, I love it when you really see from start to finish how it unfolds. How quickly did it take you to reach the final stage? I made thyme seedlings quite late and I don't know when it can get this big.
I'm really thankful of this video. . . I just started planting thyme seeds like 3 days ago and I'm just beginning to wonder if I did something wrong. Somehow, watching this video made me feel at ease.😄
Hi there, love your video, nicely explained, straight to the point in every step, from start to finish. Great job,👍 and your plant looks very healthy. Did you use any fertilizer? Thank you so much, really appreciate your time and work 👏👏👏 God bless .🙏🍀☘️🌱❤❤❤
I love this video! very informative:) Do I have to cover the seeds with the compost? because I seeded them in the hole and left uncovered... also why remove the air pocket??
Thanks for your appreciation. Yes the seeds need to be covered. One key ingredient for germination is water. If the seed sat in air or an air pocket this reduces the chances of successful germination. Contact with moist soil allows the seed to absorb water.
Hello, I love your videos. Can you make more on how to grow other herbs such as sage, coriander, oregano, rosemary, lemon balm and so on, please? Also one for growing lavender. Recommendations for types and sizes of pots to use for different plants would also be good. Thanks
Hi Christy. Thank you for your appreciation. I am making more videos - just waiting for the plants to mature! Lavender and coriander on in this years filming. I will do the others next year.
Hey there I'm just starting to learn how to grow veggies and herbs and I must say this is by far the best vid I've seen..when seeding them do I leave them outside for sunlight or inside than transfer them outside to sunlight.. thanks for sharing ..😊
Hi Amanda. Thanks for your appreciation. Start the seeds off in a warm bright place but not direct sunlight. When you transplant the seedlings to pots keep them out of direct sunlight for a week until the roots become established. After that they love full sun.
I used the jiffy pellets 72 in the tray.I put 3 or 4 seeds in each pellet and when they reached about 4 inches high I planted them 6 inches apart in 2 inches of compost.that was 2 years ago it is like a lush carpet with no weeds
I planted the seeds in February and the plants were ready for harvest in August. However I have not cut mine as I want to leave them the first year to get established.
Thanks so much for this. I wonder though, how long does it take from germination until they are big enough to move to seedling tray? Mine appear to have stopped getting any bigger over the past month and still only have seed leaves.
Hi. Thank you for this video! This is very helpful. I just have a few questions since I’ll soon be starting my own backyard herb garden: 1. While the seeds are in the propagator tray, do you still water them? If yes, how often? 2. Do I put the covered propagator tray into direct sunlight?
1. The plastic cover should trap the moisture and keep them moist but keep an eye on the soil and if it starts to dry give it a little water. 2. NO! The heat will cause the water to form steam and boil the small plants. Also keep out of direct sunlight until the plants have several sets of leaves because the tiny roots at the start will not be able to take enough water from the soil to stop the plant drying out and dieing, Good luck with your growing and Keep safe.
do you have any tips for keeping the seedlings warm? i'm currently growing (germinated) seeds in my basement, which is slightly cooler than room temperature.
If i were to sow the seeds indoors this winter to plant in the spring for ground cover. How long will it take to get a plant the size you had at the end of the video. So I know when I should start sowing the seeds.
Hello Natia. You can grow them indoors but in winter the light levels will be low and the days short so the young seedlings will not grow very well, if at all. I always start seeds in spring or later. Keep safe.
I couldn't believe my creeping thyme germinated in 4 days when every source I could find said 14~28 days and that they're particularly slow germinators.
Hello, I followed your instructions and I planted the seeds in a covered container 2 days ago, but they are exposed to full sun, I live California very hard to avoid direct sunlight. Will that affect the germination of the seeds? Thank you very much for your informative video.
What do you mean warm place when they’re growing? Cuz I live in the tropics so that’s everywhere. Do I put the babies in direct sunlight or partial or none? Sorry I’m new to growing my own things. I have spring onions, cat grass for my cat & a chilli plant (:
Warm place means about 20 deg C or more (thats warm here in the uk!). Dont put seedlings in direct sunlight until the plants have several sets of leafs otherwise they lose too much moisture and the tiny roots cannot replace it. Keep safe.
No. Peat moss comes from peat bogs while compost is made from decomposing plant material. The intensive mining of peat has adverse effects on the climate, and destroys valuable ecosystems so I try not to use it if possible.
Your video helps me a lot. I just failed to plant a batch of herbs. Could you please tell me how I should water the seeds before they germinate? From the top of the soil or from under the soil? I watered it from the top of the soil but got white hairs. Thank you so much!
Hi Lynn. Water the soil before you germinate. Cover with plastic film and that should trap the water and stop drying out. Only add a small amount of water if the soil gets dry otherwise none. I would use a mist sprayer as a watering can will disturb the seeds. As for the white hairs - it sounds like mould. Did you use fresh soil or compost? Overwatering and cold can cause fungus to grow. Good luck with your growing and keep safe.
So i sowed the entire packet just incase some didnt grow. It looks like all 200 have. Now im trying to pass thrm onto family. I only need 10 as i keep 10 of each herb lol
I have never harvested the seeds but an Internet search shows you collect the flower heads, let them dry and after a few weeks shake them to release the seeds.
