Love this one (and all Kathy’s advice)! Chuckled a bit because I have about 75% of those soil products based on recommendations from her and others at GT, and use them every year-and my tomatoes grow >8 feet high. But learned about the azalea mix for acidity, and the worm castings from this video. Thanks!

Being that I live in an apartment with a fairly good size patio balcony, I do container gardening and also downstairs in an area where my apartment manager allowed me to grow all my mostly tropical fruit trees in mostly 20+ gallon containers. Jonathan at the Ventura Greenthumb Nursery have helped me with his expertise advise. He too have the same thing at his house in Ojai. I had the best mangoes last year. My Simi Valley neighbors couldn't believe many plants and trees can grow here and produce delicious fruit. I usually have four varieties of tomatoes grown in caged containers. Being Filipino, I grow Asian vegetables in containers too. BTW, I screenshot your reply from our previous messages and shared them. They're looking forward to meet you if go to the Ventura store. Hopefully I'll be there too.

There is. This technique is how Kathy grows tomatoes which results in huge bountiful crops and very healthy plants. You can grow tomatoes cheaper also, that's just not how Kathy grows them in her garden. She's sharing her grow/planting technique which works great for her.
Love your videos. Lots of great info. Quick question, without fail I get those ugly, grotesque tomato worms every season. What product could I use to spray on the tomato plants proactively before they’re taken over by the tomato worm? Your video mentions the all purpose garden spray but it sounds like it’s used after they have already made themselves at home.

This seems like way too many different products. Who wants to store all those boxes and bags. Plenty of home grown compost and a handful of organic vegetable fertilizer seem to do fine for me. Top dress with more compost or worm castings.
Hi Janey - There are plenty of ways to go about planting your tomatoes! In this video Kathy shows how she personally grows her own tomatoes and all the products she mentioned are ones that she regularly uses in her own garden each year. Can you do it without everything she mentioned? Yes - of course, but Kathy wanted to teach her methods and show how she personally goes about it and why (she's been successfully growing high-yield crops in her garden for decades) to offer help to those who struggle with this as well as offer some advice to those who would like to encourage more yield from their plants. Most of the products mentioned in the video can be used on a plethora of other plants and trees in the garden as well so these wouldn't exclusively be just for tomatoes! We hope this helps!
