HOW TO HANG A HEAVY MIRROR OR PICTURE FRAME | French Cleat Full Tutorial
In this video, Renos demonstrates how to hang a heavy mirror.
He uses a surefire picture hanging technique, that takes a little more planning, but ultimately creates predictable results. No more picture hooks, steel cable, or having to worry about your picture or mirror leaning off the wall. This technique works on mirrors and picture frames.

Thank you for creating this video. It was easy to follow along step by step. And I actually hung a 30lb mirror. Which is amazing for me. Thank you again

Your video was awesome. My husband and I hung up a 4ft high 7ft wide mirror with ease. Just went to the hardware store to buy a bigger French cleave. Thank You

That bit you used to pre-drill the holes for the frame was way too skinny. The best way to check the width of the bit is to hold it up in front of the screw and you should only see the threads and just a hair of the shaft on either side of the drill bit. Using a very thin drill bit to pre-drill your holes is just a waste of time because the screw is just as likely to cause the wood to split. Those drywall screws are junk. If you are hanging something heavy, use a good wood or construction screw and make sure you are going into a stud. You also don't need to buy one of those metal brackets. You can make your own french cleat for very cheap if you have a tablesaw. Rip a piece of wood to about 3" x 1/2 inch (or bigger depending on what you are hanging) and as long as you feel you need (maybe 18" so you can make sure both ends are in a stud). Then rip that piece down the middle on a 45 degree angle so you end up with two 1.5" by 1/2" pieces of wood. Pre-drill and screw one piece to the mirror or what ever you are hanging with the angled edge pointing down and the wide side away from the mirror back. Do the same to attach the other piece on the wall with the angled side pointing up and the wide side away from the wall. You may need to counter sing the screw heads into the brackets to get the best fit.
