So glad I found this video before doing this. The 1/2” steel bar and floor jack tips are priceless. The service manual makes no mention of moving the caliper out of the way either, but that also made the job easier. It’s people like you making videos like this that make RU-vid a treasure trove. Subbed.

I would have thought that after 60 years of collecting tools that I would have a 1/2 bar in a drawer - not. Went to Lowes, and saw a galvanized pipe, the correct length: $18. WHAT!!! Bought a long 1/2" dr. extension for $19. It worked perfectly for the tire, and I have it to use when I need a 1/2" extension. Even a blind squirrel gets a nut every now and then! P/S. GREAT video.

Thanks for a great video. I did this today on a 2014 Street Glide I just got, and boy was it a bugger. The wheels were never removed since it was built 8 years ago, and the antiseize had dried up, it was more like glue than lubricant. I had to beat on the axle with a wooden block and mallet, and I was afraid I was destroying something. Finally I got it out. Another weird thing is the axle has a hole through the center and a 1/2" steel rod fits right through it. Live and learn!

Thank you. Been a auto mechanic most my life. I have been leaving the bike repair to a local guy. It’s time to replace my tires on my 04 fat boy. He shot me a price of $888.00 plus tax. Just to be fair, these are tubeless and the large white walls. I get that these are more expensive. Needless to say I crapped a brick. The gentleman warned me that tires have gone up dramatically, but I’m thinking 500. Lol. I’m in the dark ages. I also understand that you get what you pay for and I checked around. He’s on the money. But I’m not. My 61 year old pee brain says you can do this. So here I am and grateful for the info. The gentleman is pissed at me and says not to call back, which is totally fine. I get it. But it’s his loss for other stuff. Keep the videos coming. You have a new follower.

Thanks for this video! I made the mistake of only marking the belt side cam and not both sides on my 2003 Road King Classic. @TwoWheelRocco
@TwoWheelRocco 3 месяца назад
If you just did the belt side, that's the side that's welded so the other side will mirror it make your adjustment on the belt side and tighten the nut on the right side and you'll be straightened out as well then indexer mark on both sides when you're done it's all good. Take a close look at the cam washer can only go on one way and that's what keeps you honest. Thank you for watching all your support DM. Ride safe have a great day. Any questions just ask.

What "little adjustment" did you make on the caliper during installation? That rubber piece is keeping the caliper from sitting flush against the swingarm side just enough to make the belt try to climb off the sprocket rolling it backwards and squeal when rolling off the gas. Normally this means the engine stabilizers are worn or out of adjustment, but they're just fine, haven't touched them. I changed the rear tire, noticed that the belt rides against the tire as it tries to climb off rolling it backwards and the belt squeals rolling off the gas. First thing I saw looking it over is a decent gap between the caliper and the swingarm. Did you just have to adjust it so the axle would pass thru or did it have anything to do with that rubber piece?
@TwoWheelRocco
@TwoWheelRocco 11 месяцев назад
Happy to help. Take a look at the video that was the last to be removed and first to be installed. Make sure your break caliper pads are fully depressed and take a look at this part in the video. 12:18 a little grease goes a long ways and then install make sure that rubber is on the bottom and not interfering and that's what I think is going on with Install. Any questions just ask. Thank you for watching and all your support. Grigori. Be patient you will get it with the caliper pistons pushed all the way in and gives yourself a little more room and that should be when you're reinstalling your wheel have it on the jack and that should be the first thing installed then spacer and then go to the other side you have your pin through the wheel put your belt on and then your last spacer there you go. I hope this helps. Ride safe and have a great day.

Rocco, Love the channel. Question...can i put some 16" rear rims (from a 2014 street bob) on an '06 sportster? The sportster currently has a 15" rear rim. The front is 19 on both so I don't see an issue there. Unless the brake caliper causes an issue. What do you think?
@TwoWheelRocco
@TwoWheelRocco Год назад
Happy to help. OEM for a sportster is a 16 inch wheel. I believe the bearing sizes on that rear wheel will be different, so you will have to swap out bearings. I am an OEM guy. So that's what I see, the bearings for the axle will be a different size you could switch them over the disc brakes I don't think will be a problem. you could switch over the rotor from the 15 to the 16 inch wheel. Have watched your how-to videos on the Honda VTX. Here’s a question, what do you do when the belt rubs making a “woo woo” sound on deceleration but the rear wheel alignment and tension is correct? If I intentionally misalign the rear wheel so the belt runs closer to center on the rear wheel pulley, the sound goes away. 🤔
@TwoWheelRocco
@TwoWheelRocco 4 месяца назад
Happy to help, most times on these Harleys, the belts favor the right side they actually lean against the polly right side. You need to keep the wheel aligned and deal with.woo woo. Some are worse than others, but the wheel needs to be in proper adjusted and that is what it is. Sometimes I find if they put the belt guard, in wrong, the pulley will rub against the inside vinyl of that guard. Thank you for watching and all your support MAJR. Rocco, have you ever removed a frozen rear axle? I have a 2007 sportster and the rear axle bearings and spacers are frozen onto the axle. I have been spraying them for 2 weeks with PB Blaster. Any advice would be appreciated. :)

Happy to help. Placed a nut on the axle take a 5 pound hammer and start tapping the axle out as you spray rustbuster. Take your impact go to the other side the right side and spin up the axle with the impact gun just to get it turning, To working in the rustbuster. and slowly tap tap spin and you'll get it out. cool so glad i watched this.... I've got a 2001 Dyna and it's a little bit different... so I wasn't going to watch, but my mind kept saying click on it, go ahead!! LoL Well turns out even though the rear end is a bit different on the Dyna, the rear belt adjusters for instance, there were things that were the same. For example the back brake. Same. I wasn't sure about how it was supposed to come off, or even if it was supposed to! Well, the video answered that question. I feel more confident now knowing how the brake comes off. The smaller axle trick, well that's even better!! Makes the job sooo much easier. I'm doing my tire tomorrow but first: Home depot !!! Glad I watched this Great VIDEO!!!

@@TwoWheelRocco Hi Rocco!! Did my rear tire I had a 3/4 axle so luckily I had a breaker bar that fit right in!! Everything went back together perfectly using your method!!! Only thing now is the rear belt adjusters. When I took the tire off I counted the number of turns on each tensioner to pull wheel off. 4 full turns each. Well putting the tire back on and turning belt adjusters back four turns either the belt gets too tight or the metal covering attached to rear adjuster screw is loose. Tension feels good but when i match the other side it's just not right. May axle is so far out of whack now i dont know where to start to get belt tight Axle straight and belt tensioners on the rear of swingarm tight!! Lord have mercy!!
