I always grow more than we can eat which I do on purpose. My absolute favorite part of gardening is setting up a couple tables under my shade tree in the front yard and fill then with fresh produce for who ever wants it. I refuse to take any money for any of it. I built another 4' X 22' raised bed this year so I can give away more. God bless yall!

Onions do ok in containers as long as you fertilize them regularly and keep the soil moist. I grow them by our steps and driveway in large pots sometimes. Bonus by doing that is I can snip a few greens occasionally to use, also.

Mr. Hollis, Miss Nancy those were really nice onions. My wife and I love onions. Whether in a salad, on a sandwich, in meatloaf, or fried taters and onions they just taste better. Thank you so much for introducing us to Dixondale Farms. I ordered 2 bundles of the Texas Supersweets and received them promptly just in time for planting in my area, zone 8a. These were the freshest transplants I’ve ever seen! I separated them by sizes like on your video and it was a piece of cake to plant them. Due to the quality plants, I did not lose one transplant, not even a tiny one! They’re all growing nicely and feel this will be a successful harvest when they are ready! We are also planting sweet corn, watched the 3 part video, and can’t wait to watch the corn grow, praying for a good harvest. We love watching your videos and look forward to each new episode! We live on a lake in northwest Louisiana and love your fishing videos as well! We thank our Father for you both and pray for His continued blessings of love, health and happiness in your beautiful home. Thank you again. ~Blessings. Sammi L.

Hi Hollis and Nancy, Wonderful video! This Spring 2022, I purchased 12 bundles of Dixondale Onions. Planted them 3 weeks ago, they have went thru snow, wind, rain, even low 30 degree weather, nothing bothers them - Illinois Zone 5b weather is brutal sometimes. I had been searching for the Texas Sweet 1015 plants for a long time! Thank you for letting me know Dixondale had them. Really appreicate the Storing information, looking forward to keeping these all winter. God Bless!!!

I was able to go to a physical therapist who got me up and moving and gave me some stretches to do before I garden. Worth every penny. I’m not perfect but the good Lord helps me get through the day. All my plants are in pots and containers and I am able to grow enough for me, and to share with family, friends, neighbors and my exercise class. I planted some Dixondale onions on your recommendations this year and just ringed them. Hoping to get a good harvest and will see if I can make some last into next year! As I was ringing, I thought, “By His hands we are fed!” I may not have the set up you do, but I manage. However I do want to make a small processing table like you had at your last place. That is my goal this year. Love your video! God Bless you both and your families! 🙏💕

We use your methods and our onions store very nicely. This will be our third year growing from seed and it's saving us a lot of money. Start then indoors in small (5"w x 12"l x 5"d) plastic storage tubs we got at the dollar store, first of March. We use pelleted seed from Johnny's and much easier to plant and know how many. About 126 per container. Also only about $8 for 1000 seeds. Yeah, I'm a little OCD. We did use Dixondale for about 3 years before planting by seed and I have to say they are top notch folks, with generous discounts on bulk orders and a great selection of product. But we tried from seed one year, it worked, and no looking back. Another quick tip, plant your extras amongst your brassicas. Cabbage moths hate the smell of onions, and consider those your bunching onions. The ones you trim greens from. When cut the odor they give off intensifies. They won't grow a very large onion because of being shaded, but you'll have NO damage to your brassicas. 😊 TYFS Hollis, Nancy, and Mom PS, The OCD thing extends on to the planting templates you built. Thanks for that too my friend.

@marktoldgardengnome4110
@marktoldgardengnome4110 2 года назад
That's what we do. We store and use whole until we see one or two start sprouting. Then we chop and freeze what's left at that time. If a few get by you, plant them. You won't get another whole onion, but you will have almost endless green tops to chop and use. Another thing you can do is slice them thin into rings, dehydrate them, put them through a coffee grinder to make your own onion powder. Waste not, want not. There's no such thing as wasting onions. 😊
