In todays requested video I talk about the different methods I use to heat my snakes enclosures. There are so many different ways and information out there on how to heat your snakes enclosure so I decided to condense it down into 1 helpful video. I explain everything from heating pads, thermostats, reptile heat tape and heat bulbs.

Do you use a thermostat for heat emitter and how long did you keep it on for?

Should my heat lamp go over the water dish or be somewhere else?

I have a 36x18x18 and have a zoo med 24 W Heat pad. This is a big tank, so I think that I will need to buy a heat bulb to keep the cool side at 80°. How long does the heat bulb last? Also, one other thing, do you ever get wood mites in the substrate you buy? Thanks! I am a first time owner btw, getting my first noodle In 5 days

I agree with you, a heat bulb on the cool side is a great idea. Heat bulbs usually last 6 to 12 months depending on the type of bulb you get. I highly recommend buying a ceramic heat emitter bulb. These bulbs only produce & emit heat. No light. This is good because it will not disturb your snake at night & it will last longer because its much more efficient than a light bulb. For substrate mites its uncommon for mites to come in substrate unless the place you are buying from has an infestation problem with their reptiles, because the mites will then overrun all the other enclosures & products. If you want to be really cautious id suggest purchasing substrate from a place that does not sell live reptiles (example an online reptile supply store) This way there is no chance of having mites in the substrate Good luck with your first snake 🐍!

@@ThatsSoReptii thanks so much! Would the flukers 100w ceramic heat emitter bulb www.amazon.com/Flukers-Ceramic-Heat-Emitter-Reptiles/dp/B0002DHO6S/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=ceramic+heat+emitter&qid=1626459551&sr=8-8 with the Fluker's Clamp Lamp with Dimmer, 8.5-in www.amazon.com/Flukers-Repta-Clamp-8-5-Inch-Ceramic-Dimmable/dp/B003H200QC/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=Fluker%27s+Clamp+Lamp+with+Dimmer%2C+8.5-in&qid=1626459675&sr=8-3 Work together? Could I just use the dimmer and a heat gun not a thermostat for that. I already have a thermostat for my heat mat on the hot side. Also should I get heat tape instead or stick with the bulb? And one last thanks thing, what should the air temp in the enclosure be? I have 2 thermometers inside that reads 73.5° on hot side and 70° on cool side. The substrate on hot side is 88° and bottom of tank is 92° and on clod side substrate is 72°. Thanks so much for your help I just subscribed!😀

That bulb is fine no problem, however the clamp lamp dimmer will not work because if you read the information section on the amazon page it says “do not use the dimmer function with bulbs over 75 watts”. i think it will be dangerous especially with how hot & powerful a 100watt ceramic bulb is. Ideally if you want to add a little extra heat you could always place a much smaller heat pad or even heat tape as you have suggested. If you want to go with a bulb id suggest a different clamp lamp that can withstand 100watts. As for the temperature of the enclosure, what snake are you getting? Is it a corn snake, ball python or some other type of snake?

@@ThatsSoReptii o wow I didn’t even realize that thanks for reading the information! I am getting a python and live Louisiana so it is very humid here. I was thinking about getting another heat mat but I am worried that it won’t be big enough, and well raise the humidity too much because the humidity is already 70%. And when I put my hygrometer inside of my hot hideit was 90%!! That’s another question I had, I know that’s really bad what do I need to do to fix that? Some thing else that is all it is the surface of my substrate is 78° but the bottom of my tank is 93°. Is this normal or OK? I’m stressing out right now because I’m having all of these problems and I’m getting my snake very soon.

So since the humidity is already very high just make sure you are not misting too much or at all. Make sure the substrate is not soaking wet because your python will get pink belly which is an infection from sitting on wet soil. A nice way to decrease humidity is by using a heat lamp (ceramic heat emitter in this case). those will really evaporate the humidity right out of the enclosure. Another option which could be a last resort is to purchase a dehumidifier from walmart and place it in the room with you & your snake!

so I have the heated side of the enclosure at 84ish degrees and i found that the cool side is around 72 degrees. is there a way to slightly heat the cool side more? and should I? (I use heat mats)
