I asked Zarkie (the Australian importer of Komine gear) for a set of the Komine heated grips. I was after a set of grips that dont have a separate control box. Scott at Zarkie is a great supporter of my channel and was kind enough to relinquish a set! Go and check them out.

Great video Nerb! Appreciate your efforts in putting this together and keep up the awesome content. Looking forward to you really testing the grips out through the winter. Cheers!

I do like the indicator light telling you what setting they are on. Also agree that having them wired on permanently can be a bad thing as 11.5v seems rather low for a cut off point.

I ended up using the Oxford, same as you though with a relay. Dont trust those internal sensors to keep my battery safe. My bike didnt have a stock empty plug so I use the numberplate light wiring as the relay trigger. its easy to get to, close to the battery normally, and isnt something that will disable the bike if my wiring goes awry or the relay gets wet.

11.5 V won’t start my KTM 500. It will turn over the crank but the fuel pump doesn’t work because it needs 12V to operate normally. I run Oxfords off a completely separate fuse box so it can never work unless the motor is going.

Nice video Nerb. You may want to get yourself a pair of flush cut pliers. Jaycar has a nice Japanese made set for not a lot of money. Then you can cut your cable ties flush. Stops you from getting nasty sharp cable tie cuts in your hands when you reach into tight places on the bike.

Have the koso Apollo on my 790. Same left grip control as these (probably produced in the same Chinese factory as the ones you installed). They also suck to install (thanks KTM for going heavy on the glue) but top notch otherwise.

I’m so disappointed with the Yama ones, in +5 c and they not hot enough. Now I also added “muffs” so a lot better. But I don’t know how they will do in -5 when out riding in the snow with my studded tires.
@Nerb1
@Nerb1 2 года назад
Really? I would have thought the Yamaha ones would be fine at 5 degrees. Im surprised. At -5, I dont know if any heated grip will do well enough without muffs! They will keep your palms warm, but you will still have frozen knuckles!

Hey Nerb! Trim those cable end flush will ya? Might upgrade my OEM heated grips with these for that cleaner integration. What do the grips themselves feel like, hand comfort wise?
@Nerb1
@Nerb1 3 года назад
They are ok. Not a super soft rubber, so will probably last a long time, but not as plush as some grips

Like the set up on this brand, looking for something like this. Oxford are on my mind, but thise are looking nice. Are you running lithium battery on this bike,l know you did on the 1190, how dos it cope with very cold weather? Cheers

Hi Nerb, many thanks for your channel. One of the go to channels for T7 stuff. Are you still happy with your Komine heated grips?
@Nerb1
@Nerb1 2 года назад
Yes. I use them on every ride and they heat well. The only thing you have to remember is that you are stuck with those grips. You cant put soft ones on. And when they wear out, I expect you have to change the whole lot. Maybe you can get grip replacements without the power box?
@Captndarty
@Captndarty 3 года назад
The control module on the left grip looks like it would be bulky and intrusive and rub on your thumb knuckle either putting a hole in the glove or making a blister or pushing your hand out an extra half inch.
@Nerb1

Its 10mm wide. I dont find it gets in the way, but it depends how you hold the grips I guess.

That is the nice thing about the box setup, can mount it where ever you want in that area you don't need to have them front and center where most people place them.

I have a similar set of heated grips (different brand) but it's about the same. No bother at all, as long as you position it so it doesn't get in the way when you're going for the indicator

Great video! Have you run the Oxford heated grips before? Just wondering you they get as hot as the oxfords and if they are more/less bulky? I found the oxfords to be massive grips, so looking for a better alternative :)
@Nerb1
@Nerb1 3 года назад
I will put them side by side with some oxfords and measure them. Regarding heat, these are certainly hot enough. Uncomfortable on the highest setting in normal gloves. I dont know if the ofxords are hotter, but I just dont like the oxford box.
@Nerb1
@Nerb1 3 года назад
Oxford 35mm diameter, komine 32mm. So mot much difference.
@wobblysauce
@wobblysauce 3 года назад
Used a number, Oxfords, and a few other no names, even the one that is just an element. As far as ones that are more than just on/off, for me all of them at the lowest setting are warm enough, 2setting is sweaty and from there it is uncomfortable than on when cold and dry. when in the wet and it is 0ºc the other temps come in handy but still never used the max for an extended time. Even when it is warm outside, and you don't run bark buster/air deflectors, the lowest setting is good to keep the wind chill out of your hands which can happen on longer rides, or say from dusk and early morning.
@HuskyTommo
@HuskyTommo 3 года назад
Thanks for the vid. Great work. Do you think these can be just lock wired on rather than glue? I’d like to be able to take these off when the weather is warm and only keep these on on winter. You’d have to wreck these if they were glued?
@Nerb1
@Nerb1 3 года назад
@@HuskyTommo They have a hard plastic tube, so I dont think they would be able to be wired on. Taking them off will be an issue im sure. I have seen the heated pad type that fits under your normal grip, but I dont know how hot they get.

Nice grips and a good video. The only thing that always amazes me how people are publishing their riding with speedo clearly way over the speed limit signs they are passing. It is known that at least VicPolice are often using RU-vid videos to actually fine people (since they provided the evidence of violating road rules themselves publicly).

why not use the 2 accessary plugs under the side fairing ? than it turns off when the bike is off. no wire trouble. [its the 2 pin connectors and 3 pin connectors under side fairing. 1/2 2 pin connectors is used for car charge jacket. others are free to use.]

Like the end rings for the size of grips and the activate buttons ,how much watt / amps do they cunsume on max ? I,m a fan of smaller type 20amps automotive relais and sockets/ feets to place them on ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-70zCSr_Ot8M.html at 11minutes to see example What do they Cost in euro,s ? The box says 2.8A 28.8W. I used them today with thick winter gloves and I could still feel the heat well, so I'm happy with them. I think they work out to 130 eur, but better to check with shop. Komine is Japanese, so you might find someone more local. I should get the smaller relays like yours.
