I was up in San Francisco with Ricky Glaser, Robby Hargreaves, & Nigel Alexander, and this kids dad asked us if we would help his kid learn how to heelflip. The follow is the result of such interaction.
It’s as if you were trying to learn a famous guitar solo and Slash, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Jimmy Page are hanging around giving you pointers. If it wasn’t for this video, nobody would ever believe it happened.
That kids a warrior for just powering through. In my experience it keeps getting harder as you get more and more tired. This dude is gonna remember this forever.
Wow. That was wonderful. Half an hour of perseverance to try a trick non stop, in front of some damn good skaters no less, and patience to guide and support a kid you just met. Much respect all round
So happy you're posting vids Andy. Now instead of everybody saying nice things about you in other peoples videos they can say it directly to you. I'm from Victoria, BC. And you, are AWESOME. 💯
This is why I bought all of Andy's decks, he's rad all around. From Cab in the 80's to Andy, I'm just a Powell guy for life. I'm 47 with 3 kids so I don't skate anymore but I love collecting. Btw my legs are killing me watching this vid.
I dont think you guys realize what this meant for this kid. I grew up in an era of skateboarding where people didn't help you. You got made fun of if you were "bad" or "new" and always had to prove your worth to the other good skaters. I tip my hat to you and all the dudes in this video. True motivators and awesome humans. Thank you for doing this for him. Don't ever stop and don't ever change. Thank you again.
I watched Andy skate today at Venice for the first time. My mind is so blown it hurts. I mean, he is skateboarding, but he's so good at it, it's like another thing. Nyjah skateboards. Jagger skateboards. Chris Cole skateboards. Daewon song, is nearer to what Andy does, but he still is even a skateboarder. Even my ultimate skateboard idol Hosoi, at his height of unbelievable transfers and airs was skateboarding, Andy is doing this other thing, which I don't yet comprehend, but I think Dan Corrigan will get it soonest possibly, because he's trying to get it, I think. He was doing an 'Andy Anderson' in his last video with a chain. I can tell he is visibly moved by Andy's influence. I watched Andy turn Venice into this weird thing where obstacles that were 'traditional', ledges, rails, banks, became this weird playground of freestyle, do whatever you want with your board, but still flow like it's your first push and you're in love with just that? Totally wild. Andy isn't 'comfortable' 'skating' until it's 'pro level', as in huge methods, huge boards slides, huge smooth grinds, so style, so perfect. He was doing this awesome board slide to manual roll ins. What the hell is that? Oh yeah, it's Andy, re-evolving all potential constantly. I would love to skateboard like Andy Anders, but first I just have to learn to skateboard. I know what I'm getting Andy as a gift! www.amazon.com/Jonathan-Livingston-Seagull-Richard-Bach/dp/0743278909
There's videos of Andy sizing up parks, finding a line, and then busting out like nobody's business. Would love to see it in person. He's so adaptive to the environment.
Andy you're the man. I implore you, as a HUGE fan, plz while you have mad HEAT going for you, build your channel. Thumbnails and titles are key, you work with amazing youtubers, ask them for advice, they'll help you. Hire a videographer or get a friend or hungry filmmaker/skater to help you build this up. They'll edit or help find an editor. You could be at 100k in no time, but this content is super specific behind the scenes and it's great for a patreon or something, but you could be doing so much more for you and your fans.
Love the Gonz reference on the honk. Also, mad respect the way you bridge the gap between new and old school and keep the OG’s in the ears of the young kids🤙🏽
You guys are amazing for sticking through it with this kid on his adventure. Learning new tricks by yourself is hard but having a few great skaters and a legend Andy Anderson helping would be hard to. Congrats for sticking with it Kyle.
A really kind and heartwarming video, you guys spent the time to teach him and gave him a deck . Always get up and try again, that’s skateboardings life lesson . 🙏🙏. Cheers Chris
Hey Andy, I just bought number four and five of your boards. I got the 8 inch when it first came out along with the 8.45 and the 9.1 of the original series as soon as they came out and I couldn't be more excited to get this new series as well. So grateful for your influence on Skateboarding
Andy you are my favorite skater. I live here off of Washington Blvd so your videos are all in local spots for me, especially the ones you post in and around Venice. Hope to run into you one day. Love that you got picked up by Powell. You and Christopher Hiett are legends
Keep on spreading that love bro. That's super sick that you can be such an awesome role model to the kids and even the homies. We can all learn something from this video and that is to always encourage and never dis on anybody for any reason. The world would be such a better place to be if just treated each other kindly even if we don't know the person. It goes a long way. Keep the peace and continue to spread love and positivity!!!🤙🏽💯🌏💚💜💙
I Love That they hung in there with him and didn't make him feel rushed even though I know he felt pressure Because of the Awesomeness Around him but they were just really chill with him like Big Bros That is My Fav part of the Video
That's cool. I remember it taking me a week or two before learning an ollie kickflip at age 12 in 1987 on a heavy board with almost no concave and barely any nose. Back then, no one was around to teach you in person. All you had were skate magazine sequence photo tutorials and skate videos to watch if you were lucky to have one. We basically had to learn tricks and figure stuff out on our own back then. The struggle was a lot more frustrating and challenging without anyone to help throw in pointers and tips.
The crazy thing is , a lot of the kids at the park are still trying to figure things out naturally rather than going on RU-vid and watching a pro do a tutorial . I love the internet it helped me get a lot better at skating
@@Whoisskating Yeah, youth today are fortunate to have so many people of our past generation willing to teach, even though we didn't have things just handed to us back then. I refuse to just give anyone any tips on stuff that took me days, weeks and sometimes months to figure out. When someone works hard for something and not just handed to them, they'll appreciate it much more. Which brings me to my next point, no one gave anyone a free board or other skate gear, just for pulling off a new trick back then. Our reward was the feeling we got, once we finally reached our goal and that was good enough. Most youth today, probably don't realize how good they have it.
@@3DEditor Why wouldn't you help people to learn tricks as fast as possible. Don't want them to surpass you? Plus you sound jealous of the free deck. The kid got lucky don't hate it. You sound like no fun to be around.
@@djdrogs your own ignorance and self entitlement is your own problem. I got free decks through my factory sponsors all the time, because I EARNED it through several years of hard work, progression and winning many contests. That's how we were rewarded back then, and it wasn't easily just handed to us. You clearly don't understand why I said what I said. Too many kids take things for granted now days and expect people to just hand things to them. The most rewarding thing about skateboarding, is to figure it out for yourself. Once you've learned it, you can be proud to say you did it on your own. You sound like a spoiled entitled kid. Probably never earned anything on your own merit, expecting others to do things for you. If you think people who encourage others to do things for themselves is no fun, you have a lot to learn about life and you'll have a lot of difficult lessons along the way.
@@3DEditor The camaraderie being instilled in the skate game nowadays is exactly what has enabled it to grow so exponentially. You appear to be advocating for the exact opposite, which honestly just seems like a legacy mindset. Peace.
That boy Kyle got that strong determination. Salute to you young man. & Keep uploading Andy, your videos are hella entertaining. Just found out you have the same birthday as me in an interview you did.
So stoked for the kid. That was awesome. Did you all sign that new deck for him? Imagine being him and getting trained by you guys! So sick. You all were so generous with your time and talent. 👏👏👏
I just stuck 3 in a row with my amazing six steps . front foot pos first . straight pop . flick to the 45 angle into the front pocket . try to jump with the board . raise the back foot and stomp the bolts gently bending the knees into landing . You got this . i lost this trick 14 years and just stuck it thanks to rediscovering my 6step algorithm
All I know is if I could skate vert I would go straight for the triple sensor gshock stuff with an altimeter to see it work midair. lol. I have one. totally works on hills and stuff.
