@@meronassefa4546 Hello! Don’t worry. First thing u need is a prescription from ur son’s pediatrician to get speech therapy. Search for a good speech therapy facility and When u do please sit down with the speech therapist and ask all the questions u can to find out all about this language disorder. In the meantime research online all about the language disorder. Get the proper help and ur son will succeed. Prayers going up for u and ur son. God bless!

Can you make a video on how to help children with their behavior who also has a mixed receptive expressive language disorder??? I have a very emotional/sensitive 7 year old son with MERLD, correcting him in any type of way is not easy.. I tried so many tips from your positive parenting videos, but we both really need some guidance here and I don’t know where else to go…

One of my grandsons has had multiple therapeutic interventions since he was an infant. It's hard to know what progress he would have made without the professionals. Your videos echo much of what I have observed in the last two years. I attempt to apply techniques I have learned and your videos are a good refresher for me when I have questions. I am full time granny nanny and it is a challenging role. I feel that it is my responsibility to try harder with this kid than a neuro typical child. thanks for putting this work together.

Oh Vicki I needed to have this content. I have been fraustrated with the health practitioners in my life. I have expressed concerns with my oldest since she was 4...she is now 6 1\2 and she has tested for autism...came negative...she is now on her 3rd SLP assessment because I just feel she has communication disorders and noone still seems to pick it up. All they can give me is she is not on the spectrum. I've been disappointed with the fact that I can't get a diagnosis in order the implement treatment for her.

She mentions putting the milk back in the fridge in an attempt to illicit your child to ask for it. My question is what do you do when your child starts crying hysterically when you do that? I have tried this and my toddler starts whining/crying loudly despite my best efforts to prompt him to say what he wants ("Do you want milk?") while he is crying. It appears to be frustration at not knowing how to respond verbally, but I still don't know how to move him past it. Please, no hate.
@LiveOnPurposeTV
@LiveOnPurposeTV 3 года назад
friend2snimals66, your toddler may not be at the developmental level where this works. You definitely need to have a calmer child so soothe him and take care of the tears, then you can get to the talking.

My child is 5 now. And when was 2 we start the therapist and this journey. At age 3 her vocabulary start increase exponential. But when he was age 2 to 3 only knows few words. They are still learning and processing all the words taught. We might think they are not paying atention at all, but they are processing something. The attention span was also short, but in the time increased too. The eyes contact is the only thing that has not improve to much. Your son will improve with help of the therapists and what I realized is that we as the parents we should also need to learn more about this disorder to learn in an active way. Be part of the process.

My daughter is almost 2 and says no words (with meaning) yet, she is vocal when she's happy/excited/playing/wanting something. She has been evaluated by Speech and Developmental pathologists who both agree she has receptive and expressive language delay. Her father did not say any words either until he was 4. Is there anything in particular you would advise me to do with her that wasn't already mentioned in this video since she still hasn't started saying any words with meaning yet? She indicates her needs by grabbing me by the hand or clothes and drags me to what she wants. I don't know what else to do besides narrate what she is doing. Am I missing an opportunity to do something more in these situations? Thank you so much for posting about this topic!

Carrie Dawn, talk, talk, talk. Model this for her and explain things. You may get tired of hearing yourself, but it is so necessary for children to hear. You may look into sign language and therapy.
@kaylaa1841
@kaylaa1841 2 года назад
My son is the exact same way. He does make a syllable sound for certain items (k sound for drink, buh sound for bye for example). He drags me to things or brings them to me. I know he understands some because if I say do you want a bath he will take me to the bathroom if he wants it. My brother has a language processing disorder but I was too young to notice how he was at such a young age. It feels amazing to see someone else has a child with similar behavior. How did you get started getting evaluated? Have you seen progress in the short amount of time that’s passed so far?

Talk to the therapist and see if there is something with the processing of the information. Sounds like that is what he is doing. See if they have suggestions.
@yarieltarano280
@yarieltarano280 2 года назад
In my similar child case that issued with the repetition with the time was less and less. The therapists recommend to instead of asking the question, give the child the responses. It is a little confusing this, but ask the therapists about it. Maybe that technique has a name. I would like to know more. That is the reason that I try to educate myself more and more, to better understand on what are the different ways to help my child.

@LiveOnPurposeTV
@LiveOnPurposeTV 7 месяцев назад
Read them picture books. Don't just read, notice things, ask them if they can find something on the page. Make the sounds that the animals make. Make connections between what is on the page and in their lives. Ex. "See that cherry tree, who has a tree like that in their yard? Grandma, right. Notice the tree at Aunt Bessie's next time we are there." Just a few quick ideas we do.

What about using this approach with my undiagnosed 13 year old who doesn’t express himself. 🤷🏻‍♀️ he’s verbal but never expresses ANY EMOTION OR FEELINGS. my husband enables and fills in the blank vs MODELS, repeats and expands. He refuses evaluation. HELP!!
@LiveOnPurposeTV
@LiveOnPurposeTV 5 лет назад
nicole Wright limbasuta, you can use this approach with any child. Have your husband watch the video with you and talk to him about what is best for your child. I assume it is your son who is refusing the evaluation. Does he think he has a problem? If not, he would be less inclined to use any techniques to help him. Once he sees how expressing his feelings will help him with a goal or relationship he will be more likely to ask for help or undergo the evaluation.
