Teaching children about emotions is all about breaking it down in to pieces they can understand, and giving them "age appropriate tasks". You wouldn't expect a child to cook a whole dinner, but you can ask them to measure some sugar. Similarly, you can't expect a child to just "deal with it". But you can give them manageable chunks, like figuring out what emotion it is they're feeling. Or brainstorming possible responses to that feeling.
