I have just begun playing, and don't know straight off what a 'net cord' is. When you have a subject of a video, could you please define what it is before you get into it? Even if it's a 'flick serve'.

The other day, I was playing singles. I had watched this video the night before. The game was tense, I had a 19-17 lead, and then my opponent started closing in to make it 19-18. I played this net shot on his serve at this point, achieved a net cord, followed up with a smash on his loose lift from my net cord to make it 20-18 and ended up winning the game. This is a very high-efficiency shot and this channel is the best Badminton channel! Good job folks!

great video and discussion of technique. excellent pointer from greg about angle of racket in doubles vs. singles. also note greg and jen have slightly different ways of getting the job done, with jen using her legs more when striking the shuttle. it's a personal preference, but i like using the legs more and arm less, trying to time it as jen pointed out as you are taking the shuttle. it may seem counter-intuitive, but for me relying on the larger leg muscles and minimizing arm movement enhances control and consistency at the net. also, that little extension of the lunge at the point of contact pre-loads your legs for recovery
@BadmintonInsight
@BadmintonInsight 3 года назад
Yes definitely less arm movement allows for more control! We covered this in a previous video talking about the use of the thumb and fingers to provide control and consistently! Thanks for the comment 😃

Excellent and informative video. After a dependable low serve I would consider the net shot to be the most critical shot in doubles: in men's double it blunts the opponents attacking options, in mixed it can be the most effective way for the woman to avoid being caught forward and horribly exposed to the opposing man's smashes and flat drives.

I love this shot in double, so much control and satisfaction to get the front court from your opponents ! Do you think it could be proper/wise to play it in single or is it to "risky" ?
@BadmintonInsight
@BadmintonInsight 3 года назад
We do too! Yes quite risky in singles as you are pushing the shuttle more into court, in singles we would play a shot with some more height and angle. We will do a video on this on the channel in the future :)

Hi, Amazing content as always 😊 Is it possible to use the technique for serve return? Especially your comment on keep the racket shaft horizontal vs vertical. Does the shaft orientation impact serve return? Also, could you do a tutorial on how to control the net after returning the serve? Thanks.
@BadmintonInsight
@BadmintonInsight 3 года назад
Yes it’s possible! You want your racket head to be as high as possible so the server doesn’t easily know you’re hitting a net shot and gambles on this! And thanks for the suggestion 👍🏼

Can you also add a short segment of 30s or so on every video as to how different the dynamics is with a nylon shuttlecock? Most amateurs/casual club players like me play on those on almost a regular basis and will find that helpful..thanks for what you do to the community guys, cheers!!!
