ABOUT DANNY
-----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On RU-vid and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

Danny you are a very generous man indeed. You just gave 31,548 viewers a 100 dollar lesson for free ! Seriously though you have given we yippers of the golf world hope. I am a 14 hdcp. The reason being I couldn't hit a green from 10 feet. You name it - roll the turf over the ball, skinny it, chunk it, fat it, no contact, stick the club in the ground behind the ball. My face turning red I was so embarrassed at the looks I was getting from people. No help anywhere from anyone that I solicited help from (Pro lessons, playing partner observations, RU-vid vids, etc.). 3 minutes and 43 seconds into your video I'm cured. Simply remarkable !!!!!!!!!

You are one of the only other instructors that I have seen teaching this way. I taught chipping this way as well. The only thing I would add is that when you are setting up you gently reach down with your top hand and then grip the club. This way your top arm is at full length and the club head shouldn’t swing any lower. Thus taking another variable out of the equation.

Danny, really glad I came across this and thank you for posting these! I’ve gone from a 5 to a 9 handicap the last few years and what used to be my strongest suit - getting up and down around the green - has become my weakest. It is my “yip” with at least 3 or 4 blades across the green each round. I watched this video before playing yesterday and went to the course early to practice. It was so easy to implement. I had one chip-in from about 15y and four one-putts of less than 4’. All of this directly due to this principle. The great part - just like putting - is controlling the distance! Aiming is fairly easy for both, but to know that I will be within 4-6’ on distance is a game changer. Thanks again and great job communicating this in only 9 short minutes.

I've played golf most of my life, back when I was younger I played to a low handicap. I gave it up as my chipping so bad there was no point it's still so mentally in my mind for me to a point where I couldn't put up with the game anymore. this is the best description of chipping basics I have ever come across. I'm still having issues but it's improving I can chip so much better one-handed though, so its still a rhythm issue but getting better, thanks

Bguzz - I feel your pain. I'm 63 and have been playing since I was four. About 10 years ago I got the chip-yips and it is horrible. I always considered myself the best chipper/pitcher on the planet. I always felt I could get up and in from anywhere. Then the yips hit. When I'm hitting my irons well and hit the greens I can still shoot under par. But if I'm off and I have a round where I'm missing greens and have to chip. Yikes. Break out the sweats and watch the bogies multiply. I'm playing tomorrow. First thing I do when I hit the course is to practice Danny's lesson and see where it takes me. Bguzz, keep up the practice. I'm hoping we can both come out on the other side and get our chipping mojo back. Danny - thanks for the lesson.

Really helpful concept, Danny. I feel like when I'm playing well and not in my own head I do this instinctively. When I'm struggling though my head fills with worries about committing to the shot, decelerating through the contact area...all those magpie'd bits of golf technique. Then I start dragging the back of my hand towards the target and get all sorts of inconsistency. Going to work really hard on putting my faith in this method. Thanks for the lessons!!

Really like your video Danny. Couple of questions I have; firstly although you speak of the balance points of the sternum and pelvic centre lining up, it can be clearly seen that your sternum is in fact very slightly behind your pelvic centre and remains that way throughout your swing. Also, there does seem to be a small but pronounced 'transition' move towards the target which you don't mention, and I just wondered if you were aware of these things?

What happens to many players, including me, is that there is no problem during practice, and there is no problem during practice chip swings on the course, but on the actual shot on the course one sort of freezes, or flinches. It's entirely a mental thing.
@justbreakingballs
@justbreakingballs 3 года назад
Mentality is key to letting the body move too. People stand over the ball and don’t want to hit a bad shot, the mind saying do this do that. They then shoot bad scores, my method to trust the shot and swing is to realise you are hitting poor shots anyway, so no need to be afraid about hitting a poor shot then you can swing without fear and tension. Yes you may hit a poor shot but you were anyway and now your mind and body will be looser to learn and adapt. Never stand over the ball and fear a bad shot, do your thing over it with freedom and bad shots will come just as frequently if you are over the ball thinking and trying to micromanage the swing. It’s pointless. You need to be free to hit poor shots to get better. Danny’s describing freeing up the body in this, free up the mind before you swing and it will really work. Do this by feeling free to hit a poor shot. It confuses the mind into being quiet instead of tensing you up with expectation and hope that this will be a good shot or this lesson will really make a difference. Your brain subconsciously thinks doing what you have been practicing will produce a poor shot and reverts to type trying to save you from a poor shot ironically producing a bad shot and blocking your progress like a mental bouncer at the door of progress , I don’t know why it does this but it will block you improving. You must play through that fear and once you have done it a few times you will never freeze again because you don’t care if the shot is bad you just allow the body to flow.
@chid6894
@chid6894 3 года назад
Practice it hundred or even thousand times. Until your mind feel enough confidence and that you would not think too much in your game bcoz thinking too much yields to distraction.

Danny what distance do you use the chipping technique up to, a lot of instructors say 30-40 yards.

Hi Danny, I tried this today, it really good way to chip! 👏🏻👍🏼 How would change the setup if you had to 10 meters further? Could one still use vertical shaft & pendulum idea?

I was open stance, ball off my right toe, stabbing down and not being consistent. This drill has made life around the greens much more consistent hence giving me confidence. We all know confidence makes for better scoring. Thanks for helping us with your lessons Danny😊👍

I do that, too. The 8 iron bump and run works pretty nicely. However, I'll use Danny's technique if I'm a bit further out from the edge of the green.

It’s a modified putter stroke really with just an added touch of wrist flex. The hands/wrists are very quiet just like the putter

How do you adjust for distance. Do you use different clubs
@paddymckibbin3957
@paddymckibbin3957 4 года назад
Hi George Cordeiro there doesn’t seem to be a right or wrong answer to your question. Some pros even prefer to always use one club and lengthen or shorten the swing accordingly, others like to keep the same length of swing and change clubs to control the distance. You need to experiment and see which method gives you the most consistent results, then practice. Good luck 👍

Danny, I have only just found you RU-vid and just in time! I was chipping well all last year and perhaps in part due to the wet winter over the winter the skill had disappeared. I am in Portugal on holiday and when playing yesterday was playing very well apart from chipping off tight lies. Your video has acted as a great refresher and rather than being distraught I am now looking forward to my next round, thank you.
