Exactly, the most crucial part of the video for me, I've always felt awkward with my footwork and body position when trying to play an aggressive forehand slice down the line, now I know why :) @@TopTennisTrainingOfficial does the same thing apply to an attacking down the line backhand slice? Should I do the cross behind step there as well? (with the other foot obviously)
Very helpful when the player is late to reach the sweet spot for hitting a forehand …a perfectly executed forehand slice can be a winner if placed just across the net …
Very well done! Comprehensive and I really liked the incorporation of SloMo video to make it easier to see what you’re doing with the racket. Keep up the good work and thanks for all your efforts to help improve tennis players....
Hey Simon. Good for you for putting this up! Other than for extreme on the run stretch replies, most pros have frowned on forehand slice ever since the baseline game took prominence - whether for returns or rallies. A knife forehand slice used sparingly as a response to a good inside out forehand, however, can be both defensive if time is short and also offensive as it presents a trajectory and spin that is foreign and therefore usually a surprise (especially from a lefty to a righty's backhand) - often drawing an error, floater or at least a defensive response. Nice to see you are bucking the trend with yet another great lesson. Best
Great video, I do love that shot as it feels natural for me ,as i play what we call today old style tennis, but I know I have so much room for improvement !!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent tutorial...wish I used the slice on the forehand more during my playing days, especially in a defensive position (always tried to hit my way out of trouble). Thanks for posting!
Outdoor tennis season just started this week in Nova Scotia with the nets going up on public outdoor courts, if you are good playing in 10C. I plan to practice with your video on my tennis ball machine all month. This is a shot I just do not have but see pros on TV use all of the time.
I am a 3.5 leftie that likes to backhand slice, backhand top spin drive and forehand top spin drive. I have to figure out your rightie instructions as there is a lot packed into your video to develop muscle memory on.
Yet another great video. This is a shot that is underused by players at all levels. Thanks for sharing the correct techniques. I have had opponents say it not a real shot, but I kept the point anyway>
Slice is good when it bounces in the weird zone that's almost an overhead but not high enough. Best training for a slice is honestly working hard on volleys. Volleys are usually hit with backspin so a slice is just volley hit further back
Just 3 ago I was practicing this king of hit on the wall and wondering why there is not much info on how and when it should be used in court. Now I know it better. Thanks Simon
hey simon, just a small production suggestion from an audio tech - applying a high pass filter to the audio in your editing software (or simply turning down the low frequencies on the equalizer) you'll reduce that wind noise greatly (assuming you don't have a wind screen for your camera). love the videos as always, and thanks for doing this one in particular. i struggle with forehand slice.
Thank you for the tips 👍 we just got a couple of clip on mics to make it easier to film in wind since we normally use shotgun mics but when windy it picks it up too much. And now the courts will be shut for lockdown 2.0 🙁
Top Tennis Training - Pro Tennis Lessons sorry to hear. We’re bracing for wave 2 (and 4 more years of a retard) here stateside. The EQ thing I mentioned, set at around 60-80hz, will get rid of the low end noise without effecting the quality of your voice overs. Cheers Simon
Fun fact my forehand slice is actually better than my regular forehand, sometimes I only hit 5 or 6 forhands in a set and it really pisses my couch off😂.
I think the advice was good. The only thing I question is if people need to change the forehand grip at all. I watch pros who appear to vary the motion slightly for all the scenarios the instructor is advocating. The backhand/forehand motion cant be the same simply because they are mechanically different because of where the arm connects. Good info though.
As in you would slice with your usual forehand grip? For example, a player using a semi western or western forehand grip would keep that grip and try to slice with it? You can try it yourself, let me know how your wrist is afterwards 😂
Great tips! I'm a bit confused about slicing just like volleys vs slicing by slapping on the ball. I have tried hitting my FH slice i've actually felt good, it skids off the surface and hard for my opponents to get under.
What would you say is the best racket under 100 pounds/dollars? Because I wanna play good but I can’t spend loads of money. Love the vids and thanks for this lesson
Hello Simon, in this video on how to hit the perfect Tennis Forehand Slice in 5 simple steps what is the name and brand of the Completely White Tennis Racquet you are using during the video?
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial I think you have presented everything that I feel a need for. Nice to have all of that in my library. I especially appreciate the material you uploaded during pandemic to help us stay connected and active.
Coach, one serious question to you: What do you think of Monica Niculescu and her extreme tactics of forehand slice? TBH I believe I could beat all kinds of male rec players if I had skills of her level. Would you rather agree with me?
Very unorthodox players are hard to beat because most players haven’t trained to defeat that style. Monica would beat all rec players for sure, no doubts about that
Great video lesson on a shot often overlooked in coaching and training; remarkable also the abundance of details explained, both technical and tactical.
It would certainly piss off a lot of opponents. I imagine a WTA player would have decent success doing so, the guys would probably overpower them in general but remember Santoro was a tricky opponent for many
Good video as always. A video on slices returns of serve could be great. A player like Wawrinka often use slices on returns of serve which allow him to return serve with enough security cause he's not extremely great returner. Hi from France !
I can't describe how amazing your channel is. I've watched a lot of tennis videos and you have the best tennis lessons hands down. Everything is well explained and well demonstrated, and it's clear you guys know what you're talking about, unlike some channels that give misinformation. Thank you for these lessons!
