I taught myself from a book probably 30+ years ago. I hold my hook like a spoon, and I can’t wrap the yarn around my fingers…I can’t make the yarn flow through my fingers, and I find having my index finger extended like that very awkward for me, and it actually makes my index finger tired. What I do to create tension in my yarn is hold it with my pinky, not wrapping it or anything, just holding it.
I know someone who holds it like a spoon too! Gotta do what feels good. My index finger does get tired and then I have to stop crocheting, I'll have to try just holding it and not wrapping it.🙌🏻
