This video lesson demonstrates how to properly hold an airbrush if you are starting out. Here we are using a double action, siphon-fed airbrush. It's important to know how to correctly hold an airbrush for you to have the most comfortable grip and maximum control.

My husband passed away leaving a collection of airbrush equipment and I just came across his collection and am unpacking... I think your videos are PHENOM! Thank you! He was meaning to teach me but sadly work, and life got in the way. I am looking forward to watching your videos and learning. I find things sometimes difficult as I am left handed but it seems to not matter watching this video.. my wrist does not touch the surface therefore no smudging :) Thanks again!

I've been watching a lot of videos on airbrushing for a few months, I've watched 2 of your videos and I've learned more than all of the videos I've seen. Thanks I think I'm ready to buy an airbrush kit.

I’m a tattoo artist and this is a lot harder for me it’s the finger movement I can’t or have a hard time to make my finger move so very hard to get that dagger stroke I’m gonna try to build something up on top of the trigger to make it higher maybe try some foam or something like that my hands are a little bit rough my joints and tendency are wrecked from tattooing for 35 years so hopefully I think with a little height on top of the trigger will make it a little easier to move back and forth to get the proper stroke

Far as the finger control, try thinking of it as you use the finger next to your thumb and then remember press down with your finger then close the finger to the inside of the hand, then release it and let it go forward, then up. down/back/forwards/and up is the motion. also far as height on the trigger you can use the rubber pads for corns and just trim it to fit.

Great video, mate. I was wondering how to hold my airbrush. Your technique lends for a more comfortable grip. I had a stroke last year (July 15, 2017) and it left my right hand kinda numb. I am trying to learn how to keep the air on all the time and pull back on the trigger. It gets quite frustrating sometimes. I use a Badger 155 Anthem with a .76mm needle, nozzle and spray regulator. I've disassembled the valve assembly and found a spring just like the original (didn't want to modify the original in case I screw it up) and cut off a couple of coils. Now it doesn't take as much pressure to turn on the air. I like the Badger 155 Anthem 'cause it's got an adjustment for the trigger spring, too. Love my Badger. I hope with some practice I can learn to control it the way you do. Rusty in eastern Tennessee

nice video, nice you went into detail about the grip, also I notice the brush you used was a siphon or bottom feed, what changes when you use a top feed (gravity) brush, as you don't have the tube socket on the front , or the bottle to help support your fingers ?

I use the tip of my finger, also you forgot to show him the technique of how to wrap the air hose around your wrist to keep the hose from tangling. still good video, also you could also tell your students to practice the air finger exercise press down, pull back, release to front and up then do same thing over and over it's a really good exercise to get used to the routine of the air brush finger control.

Ok I was practicing this technique yesterday and wondered if you could solve my dilemma? Number one is that I use a top feeder so I can't put my finger so far forward. Number two, my finger is about a third of the size of yours and Patricks. Do you have any advice on holding top feeders with small fingers? I still got a very tired hand in about an hour.

Get yourself a Badger 155 Anthem. I think it's the best airbrush for the money and is made here in the good ole USA. Parts are readily available for them.

Call BS. What kind of air brush are you using. What's the pounds that you're using through the airbrush. And what is the mix that you're using and the paint. There is not a doubt in my mind that you are very amazing and very talented. I get the concept of how to hold an airbrush. I just feel you're leaving out some very important details.
