Sorry I believe you’re incorrect with the seal position the water not supposed to get into the oil so the open side or cavity side of the seal should face the water pump There should be a spring tensioner on the inside of the inner lip to put tension on that seal lip

Check the community for my channel, I posted about this. There is a picture showing a used one for sale on eBay with the seal installed in the manner in which I did. I don't know why exactly, just making assumptions based upon logic. Thanks for commenting and watching.
