Me too! I'm trying to own a smaller wardrobe, use everything that I own, and keep enough variety to be able to match my outfit to my mood. I'm working towards a basic general wardrobe of really simple garments. Then have small capsules for each style. Boho capsule is as small as one dress, a hat, and one top. Then I can add in the style capsules with the basics. It's important to have a fairly cohesive color palette. I'm not done, but I'm really excited about this idea and what I have done so far has been working well.

Thats a very good point about you being attracted to dressier stuff than you will realistically wear in your life. I find this in myself too. I work from home so I don’t need a lot of dressy things currently. I have been trying recently to figure out how to pair those dressy things with casual things to make them more everyday appropriate and get use out of them. This video came along at just the right time! And I really love your message about using what you have and being intentional about what you bring in. Thanks for all the inspiration! 😄

The struggle is loving styles like "cottage core" or "dark academic" but I work in a warehouse in an administrative role that sometimes involves climbing stuff... I need jeans and a slighty dressy work shirt and comfortable flats. None of that is "librarian-esq" (another fav look on boards!). Also I have kids and 0 time to iron or dry clean anything so it has to be simple, sturdy material... a hand knit cashmere sweater is gonna fall apart in the wash. So I often end up looking "dumpy" and cheap in my opinon. So I'm here trying to correct myself a bit. Thanks for your videos!

I would add: D) consider your body type. I like pointy toe shoes but they kill my big toe. I have to accept that I cannot wear them, or I'd be wasting money forcing myself to literally wear a shoe that doesn't fit. Best I can do is a roomy almond toe. I am a pear shape with an athletic build (broad shoulders, flat chest). And I have a long torso. Some days I like to play up that sharp-then-curvey contrast. But, if I want to do an oversized look, I find it often made me feel more broad. I learned I had to find blazers, sweaters and tunics that are 30"+ to hit me right. Learning these things about my body, and accepting how it changed post-partum, has me MORE SATISFIED with my wardrobe AND my body. Rather than expecting it to work when I copied a look, I learned to tweak the look so it felt good for my body. (Also, long torso + curvy booty means I struuuuuuugle to find comfortable jeans. They pull down at my hips. I need a rise of, like, 14" in a high rise for them to feel good.)
@vazq_Fernanda

You're totally right! Honoring your natural body shape and anatomy makes a huge difference. I think it's important to understand our "essence" first, and then see how we can bring that in with and make it work with our bodies.

I’m wearing a strapless bra! The key thing is that it has to fit you really well. If you can get measured in a department store, those are the best places to shop for bras in my opinion. I can’t not wear a bra either!

This is very helpful advice. My struggle is that my favorite things to wear don't really fit my lifestyle. My style is fairly casual and comfortable, but I like a little touch of Boho or romantic elements. My favorite things to wear are light, loose sundresses, shorts & tanks, things like that. I live in West Africa, which requires long skirts and very modest dressing. I'm most likely to wear a comfortable solid color Tshirt with a skirt made with African wax fabric. Then I'm comfortable, and appropriate for the cultural modesty. When I'm in the US, the majority of my time is spent where it's too cold and impractical for my favorites (especially since I get cold easily after adjusting to the African climate.) One thing I realized recently is that I can work some of the aspects that I like into comfortable modest tops- things like ruffle sleeves. I've started looking for a few things that will work to tweak my wardrobe a little. Listening to your explanation of personal style and how to incorporate it really made sense.
@vazq_Fernanda
@vazq_Fernanda 4 года назад
Hi Anna! Where in West Africa do you live? I lived with my family in South Africa for a little bit. What if you focus on finding boho brands, and then seeing what they have available in the dress code that you need? I'm sure there are loose long sleeve dresses/shirts that would work, and you can easily belt them to add style. There's also gotta be cool clothing from India, they have similar requirements and are super colorful. Also, have you seen the Netflix show Dead To Me? I haven't seen your style, but the character Judy has a super boho chic look and a lot of the times wears stuff that is covered up. Look her up! It may be a good source of inspiration.
@annamichelle3248

@@vazq_Fernanda Looking for brands with a boho style is a good idea. I haven't seen the netflix show, but I will look it up. I can't say more specifically than West Africa, because of security. We've lived in Africa for about 10 years, first Central Africa (Congo) then moved to West Africa. :)

@katie7216 3 года назад
Omg thank you for replying! ❤️ You are so right, I’m putting together combinations that I would never have thought of with a closet full of random clothes. The things I struggle with most are layers and variation! I buy multiple colours of the same item if I love the style and the fit, so I feel like I repeat the same look a lot. I struggle with layers because I’m quite petite and I really don’t suit long/heavy cardigans and unconstructed clothing and I struggle to find layers that don’t drown me or bulk me out too much. I really appreciate you taking the time to reach out to me, you’ve made my day! 😍
@vazq_Fernanda
@vazq_Fernanda 3 года назад
@@katie7216 You made MY day with your comment! Are you shopping the petite sections of stores? Or do you get your clothes tailored? It can make a HUGE difference, I get a lot of stuff tailored and it's a game changer for fit. And about the basic pieces - yes, having the same piece in different colors can get repetitive with a capsule because then you are really wearing the same piece over and over again - a uniform! Better to have several of the same 'type' of piece with some variation. You'll get the hang of it as time goes on!
@katie7216
@katie7216 3 года назад
Bless you, any and all your positive feedback is so well-deserved! Yes, I try to shop in the petite sections wherever possible, I just never tend to gravitate towards any layers that aren’t fitted hoodies, cardigans or jackets. I’m really keen to find a local tailor though! I’ve DEFINITELY found my style uniform thanks to you, and I’m keen to invest in some good quality leggings as a result! I have a rock-chic style which I’ve found quite hard to level up and style maturely when I still like (and own!) a lot of clothes from my 2007 Paramore Scene Kid days! Has your style uniform changed over time? Have your style changes evolved naturally or have you made a conscious effort to push out of your comfort zone?

What you're essentially saying is that your job requires you to wear a uniform, so have a few pieces that fit that uniform (maybe build a work capsule), and then build your personal wardrobe with whatever actually makes you happy. If you need a little more pizzaz in your uniforms, you can pull accessories from your personal wardrobe to add a bit of an edge.

I have the tendency to gravitate towards clothes that look too old for me. (Says my sisters and my niece). I love sweaters lol. I am down-sizing my closet and replacing to hopefully dress a little better. Currently, I am getting rid of ALL/most of my horizontal striped sweaters and floral dresses and (in the Amazon List) I have some blazers that I like and will pair with the solid dresses. **There's a group that comes and gives a gift to us teachers every year. Your body may not be the same that it was, but it's so much better now because it gave you SIX CHILDREN!! I'm still amazed that our bodies can create an entire new human, it blows my mind. Quick tip: Often people think that the way to "disguise" the tummy area is to wear flowy tops, but this can actually make it worse because it brings more attention to that area when the fabric moves in front of it. Instead, try high-waisted pants or skirts and focus on bringing the focus elsewhere - your face with jewelry, your boobs if you like them with a nice neckline, or your legs. I hope this helps!
