Five tips to improve and increase your low iron levels:
Iron deficiency might occur in your body due to low absorption of dietary iron. Non-heme iron is more affected by dietary factors than heme iron. In this video, I discuss five ways by which you can increase the intake and absorption of iron in your body -
1) Increase intake of Vitamin C
2) Consume soaked, cooked, germinated foods
3) Keep the calcium intake in check
4) Do not consume tea or coffee with meals
5) Iron fortification or supplementation

Once I left OUT meat from my diet and included more green veggies and legumes into my diet I was fine it was cured within 2 months and I feel so much better!

I am a vegan I eat every thing organic and I used to donated blood to the Red Cross in Vancouver-Canada until one day I started feeling nausea dizzy and very weak and I fell down 3 times in a week ..I went to the the Emergecy hospital and had a Iron blood test done and my iron ferritin levels was 3 very low !!so low !!...no wonder i was so sick no energy by 2:00pm I had to lied down for two hours and sleep couldn't go to work for 6 weeks ..I was soo sick and weak I thought I had a "brain tumour" and I was dying I was so depressed .Its been over two months I been taking Iron supplements , nutritional yeast for B12 -B-vitamins and eating food rich in Iron .Now I feel.. 50 percent better I am recovering slowly.. I will not be donating blood to the Red cross thats for sure !NEVER AGAIN ... I never thought low levels of Iron could make a person so sick . Now I am taking "Feramax "150 one pill a day its bringing my iron levels up .I take one capsule contain 150 mg. of iron I take one a day prescribed by the doctor at the hospital ...so far its bringing my iron levels slowly up .I will go for a blood test in 4 weeks .This Anaemia is very serious ! I even lost part of my hearing . I hope my post can help somebody .Once my iron level are up I will start take a more natural Iron supplement but for now I will wait until my iron level reach around 80 to 100 . Anaemia is a very serious condition .. get your Iron levels checked . Iron deficiency anaemia is a condition where a lack of iron in the body leads to a reduction in the number of red blood cells. Iron is used to produce red blood cells, which help store and carry oxygen in the blood. If you have fewer red blood cells than is normal, your organs and tissues won't get as much oxygen as they usually would. There are several different types of anaemia, and each one has a different cause. Iron deficiency anaemia is the most common type. Other types of anaemia can be caused by a lack of vitamin B12 or folate in the body , deficiency of copper by taking too much Zinc supplements - read more about vitamin B12 and folate deficiency anaemia.one more ...."caffeine" can reduce iron absorption by up to "80 percent" ! ..yes 80% !. Consider substituting non-caffeinated versions of coffee, teas and other drinks when you can and not drink pop laden with sugar and caffeine . don't drink milk or tumeric it stops iron abortion ..no dairy no turmeric if you're anaemic ...better you eat , red beets spinach and get you Iron levels checked every 4 months .Also high levels of Iron above 180 can damage your heart body organs . your iron levels should be no higher than 120 .

Thank you very much for this beautifull help...i also started to be vegetatian a few months ago and feel weaker and weaker these days...two people told me i may be iron deficent,i imediately advice myself to eat one pound of meat with bones to clarify my doubts,i was surprise,my strengh came back my energy boost imediately the following day...Now i am looking for a better way to be vegetarian i first jump in it koz i was convince that is the proper way to live well on earth,but now,it's a challenge...i put myself a target of once a week pound of meat and to slowly reduce it before I will be able to put it off. I am now scared once I know meat is also vital...gush,what a challenge...not easy to be vegetarian.

Something critical though - there is overload too which can present as deficiency, even on labs. Copper and zinc levels are important to check and looking at absorption issues with the gut! Good one and thank you!

Help..i have very severy iron deficiency..sent to hematology..1wk..mihht meed.blood transfusion..but i also jave GRD..so what can I eat or drink..Im comfused..did prescribed..iron & folic acid..

Jordan Jenkins I used to get lightheaded and dizzy all the time, and when I took blood tests it turned out I have iron deficiency anemia. So MAYBE you have it too, not sure though so make sure you you tell your doctor

Thank you for the insightful clip. My mum recently had total hysterectomy about 5 months ago and is battling with low hemoglobin levels due to low iron. I will now add a vitamin c supplant with the iron and B12 supplement she is taking. Hopefully this will help?

How long should I wait after eating a meal to have a cup of coffee? 30 minutes? 60 minutes? 120 minutes? Longer? A general estimate would be excellent. Everyone says "don't drink caffeine or eat calcium" with iron, but no one says how long to wait. It would also be nice to know how long one should wait after drinking caffeine to eat breakfast? Thanks!

Hii. Can you pls answer my question. I feel tired after waking up and feel sleepy the whole day and i always get those cranky headaches and because of this i cannot concentrate in my class and when i sit to study i feel sleepy. Is this because of less haemoglobin in my blood???

Could be a number of things including thyroid issues. One summer I made breakfast smoothies every day using a soy protein. After a few weeks I was extremely tired all the time. Figured out the soy protein was suppressing my thyroid. Once I stopped taking the soy protein my energy bounced back. Good luck.

Very good advice and we'll presented. Is it true that too much iron will cause the body to store excess iron in your organs & muscles? Like the heart and folds and crevices of organs?

Yes, excess iron does get stored in organs like our liver, heart and pancreas. But it is a very rare phenomenon.

Very nice video but I wonder why did you leave out iron toxicity that occurs with iron supplements when consumed without getting a blood test done. Iron toxicity can be fatal.

Does herbal tea also inhibits the iron intake? I never drink black, green or red tea, just herbs (for my stomach). Does that also hinder the iron uptake?

Herbal teas (depending on the type) may contain tannins; and tannins are compounds that inhibit iron absorption. So depending on the type of herbal teas you drink, there might be an inhibiton of iron absorption.

That's low as hell. Your hair is probably falling out. Should be around 70. Probably need infusion. Ask your doctor.

After watching this video, it appears to me that prevalence of malnutrition in India is more due to improper combination of foods rather than inadequate intake of nutritious foods

Yes, that is a possibility. Dietary factors do affect the absorption of nutrients. Even factors like stress affect it. People might be consuming very nutritious food, but still might have deficiencies due to inadequate absorption of these nutrients.

If you are non-vegetarian, all meats are good sources of iron. If you are a vegetarian, lentils, green veggies, raisins etc are good iron sources.

it's because you are not getting enough oxygen due to low iron.

Jordan, light headedness could be from low iron. A simple blood test from your doctor will help you know what your iron levels are. Be cautious with iron supplements. Hope this helps.

It's a very serious problem.you should try supplementary medicines for iron deficiency.About 1 years ago i also have been a problem of iron deficiency due to which i was feeling lightheaded all the time and i was too much week day by day.I used to ate vegetables in daily routine but their impact was very slow then i used EV MultiVitamin+ Iron Tablets of easy vitamins company almost 3 month,now i feel better.You can take iron tab one time in a day to provide health support.

Hi Jordan, yes it could be due to low iron levels, but the only way to confirm would be to get a blood test, and I recommend you do so!
