Great tips Katie! I find I get so wrapped up in ‘watching’ art rather than making art. I started taking 2 sketchbooks to work and use them at lunch every day. It forces me to create something whether I feel like it or not and I always end up feeling less stressed when I’m done. It’s definitely beneficial for my mental health. I recommend it to anyone that is pressed for time at home. 💕
Thank you so much, Karen! That is such a great point, I can definitely relate to that too. I consume a lot of art content and most of the time I should use that time to paint myself 🤣 Such a good idea to take your sketchbooks along with you to work, and I love the idea of using your set lunch time to have the choice of creativity too. I think a lot of it is about having the option with us, in case we want to draw or not! Great ideas, thank you so much for sharing 🥰
These are great tips Katie!! Thank you so much!! I shy away from drawing real life objects myself so am going to incorporate that into my daily sketches for sure. I used the link and have saved some classes from the Creative Inspiration Learning Path. I think I'm going to start with the Beat Art Block & Rebuild your Creative Confidence path and go from there! Thank you for the link!! Have a creative day!!!
Very good and helpful tips Katie! I loved seeing some of your beautiful pages again, especially the floral spread that you did this year from the arrangement in your room. It’s beautiful. And you certainly can draw people! They were very expressive and in such short amounts of time. There is nothing you can’t draw!!❤
Aaah thank you so much Kathy 🥰 I think with people I just need to build on my confidence as I do enjoy drawing them, I just rarely do it! Definitely an intention for 2025 💛
Great video Katie, full of great tips as usual ❤ tip 5 is that one beginners usually are sick of hearing but in my humble opinion think is really the KEY and the one that makes all the difference!
You always produce informative and well presented videos. I really appreciate your insight and tips. There are certainly some there I’ll take onboard. I think you’re right that practice and creating as often as you can is so important to your growth. Thank you for sharing.
Oh thank you so much Stephen, I so appreciate that 😊 Absolutely, the more we draw the more we learn about our style and what we want to do going forward! Thanks so much for watching and commenting 🥰
Thanks for posting! Would you ever consider doing an art room tour? 🙂 it’s always interesting to see different artists unique spaces. (but don’t feel pressured to!)
Thank you Deven! 💛 I have some clips of it in my 'Garage conversion into an art studio' video from last year, but I've been thinking of doing a proper tour as I have way more supplies now and I need to organise it 🤣 I'll add it to my list!
Really liked your tipps 😊😉 I saw the distress crayons in your plein air scene. Are you planning on doing a video on them or using them on a spread? I'd be interested 😊
This was a very helpful video. And yes it reminded myself again and again to keep on drawing no matter how good or bad it is. I become happy when i create something good but when it doesnt turn out how i want to, i become stuck and kind of give up. I need to practice more. 🤍 Thankyou. Also can you make a video about color combinations and how to make a painting/drawing more cohesive (!)?(Sorry i can't explain properly, umm.. but what i kind of want to mean is my yellows, green and blues kind of looks sometime off and not soothing to eyes. Like some important points and things while choosing a colour combo. Im self learning so learning through experiments take quite a lot of time. So it will be helpful if you can make one. Or if you have one then let me know.
Thank you so very much, Tania! Absolutely, so important to keep practising whether it's 'good' or 'bad' - it all feeds into our art! I can understand feeling stuck but always worth it to keep going and pushing 💜 I find that I've developed a 'set' colour palette that has really helped me and keeps my work cohesive as I know the colours work well together. I have a 45 minute video for how to choose limited colour palettes which is available on my Patreon which may be useful! I haven't ever filmed one about choosing cohesive colour palettes though so I'll keep this in mind for future video topics! 😊
Katie, thank you for sharing❤ Do you have a theme for each sketchbook?😂 Recently I just started my sketchbook, I want to drawing from life, maybe sea I saw, tree I loved...🎉
Thank you so much, Jas! I don't have set themes (apart from one that I have for drawing people that's not been touched for a while 🙈), but I do find that I reach for specific sketchbooks based on materials instead. I like the idea of having sketchbooks for different themes though as you'll really be able to see the progression per subject! 😄
