You're so welcome! We look forward to hearing about your progress with this wonderful, but demanding kick! Apologies for the appallingly late response - working through the backlog of comments now. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!
I noticed that you are using the upper part of the foot for contact instead of the ball of the foot. I have decided that if I really want to attack or when I can get away with it in training, I will do the same because it is both more difficult and risky for the toes kicking the traditional way. The other side of the coin is there is a risk of injury from the opponent's elbow if the kick is blocked. Overall I would say that I would not use Mawashi Geri unless the situation really warrented or allowed it. I''ve also had quite a lot of kicking experience in Korean martial arts but as an old dog I tend to subscribe to the KISS principle in most things. Great practice tips and mechanics theories though and your way seems both correct, scienticic and logical
Thank you for this truly thoughtful and in-depth comment! I also prefer to use the top of my foot, because toes can crunch like baby carrots lol. I also prefer a solid maegeri, as I'm not a naturally gifted kicker, and due to a hip issue, kicking high is risky for me. Absolutely worth it for those who can, but I think most of us take our chances with the humble mae geri or kansetsu geri. Thank you for stopping by!
Oh, absolutely! My left foot sucks 😅 Apologies for the appallingly late response - working through the backlog of comments now. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!
