@@SpeakSpanishFaster ¡Que chevere! Tambien yo soy boricua. Well, mitad (mi papa es de Ponce). I use to live in D.C. for 12 years. I moved 7 years ago and I plan to move back very early 2020. I only knew one Boricua in D.C. Everyone else was Salvadoreno, from other Central American countries or Dominicano. I felt like an alien LOL When I move back, would it be possible to take classes from you? I speak basic and a issue I have is when being spoken back to. It's embarrassing and aggravating trying to process word for word and then responding quicker. I've been watching your videos the past 24 hours and you give buen consejo. Much appreciated

I remember my first trip to South Africa. I’m a native US English speaker and was shocked that I was having a difficult time understanding English, South African style! Interesting to realize the same thing applies to other languages.

I moved from the United Kingdom to America ate age 9 and hike I spoke the same language there were hurdles no one really thought of... my top grades in spelling fell swiftly as I’d never heard of. “Faucet” Or “eraser” let alone knew how to spell them. And my love of History suffered a blow because my knowledge of monarchies and such didn’t help on social study test ... don’t even get me started on geography. I will say by I made it my goal to master “the United States in Rhyme” song and if you’ve ever heard it you have to sing the second verse double time and I won a contest for singing it correctly! My relatives thought it was just a riot and still pull my out as a party favor 20+ years later ... in England... and I if knowing the states is ever a trivia question I’m a team favorite because I can still sing it. 😜

Its most difficult for me to understand dominicans they speak like they competing with Usain bolt and they change the endings of some words for example like "armor" which sounds like amol. Being an English speaker from the Caribbean I am used to being not understood when I go to the states because of my Caribbean accent so we learn from child hood to "code switch" from Caribbean English to Standard American English which can be what some refer to as an English Patois.

I really like the way you put that--14 minutes in, you said, "learn the one that you deal with most, and then, let the others come to you". Having been around Mexicans for the majority of my bilingual life, I'm not in a situation where I am around a lot of Salvadorans. There ARE differences, but it's not that bad, in fact, it's kind of fun.

Good video! D. C. is my ciudad natal (specifically Temple Hills, MD). When I was growing up there (90s to early 00s), the majority of Latinos were Salvadorans and Carribean. First friend I ever had was Puerto Rican. I live in central/southwest Virginia where the Latinos come mostly from Mexico or Honduras (or Brazil surprisingly). I agree with you completely with the Spanish teacher thing. Most of the Spanish teachers I had were either trained in Spain or Spaniards. I only had one teacher who was trained in Latin American Spanish (the Guatemalan variety). I never did well leaning Spanish in school, and I began to think that this was part of the reason why. I didn't actually start learning any Spanish until I had a job with Spanish-speaking customers.

I am sooo excited to get back to the the Dominican and make a fool of myself speaking Spanish to everyone!!! I won a 5 day trip to the DR for meeting every one of my language goals in a Spanish class with a Latin American music theme that I started in February - Spanish con Salsa with Tamara Marie! It was supposed to be for Bachata Festival but cover had other ideas but God had a plan and they are allowing me to go on my own time frame with is means I can visit people I’ve who were there when I fell in love with their country and then the new ones who have been helping me learn I decided bilingual was a thing I had to be! ❤️ Aprender español + la música + un viaje a República Dominicana ❤️ I was born and raised in the UK and studied French thru college. Romeo and Juliet obsession maybe. I have NEVER been so LOVINGLY received by native speakers as I have by native Latin American Speakers and no matter how crazy I sound or sounded in the beginning Everyone has tried to understand me, gracefully showed me how I could try next time to be understood and laughed with me over the trials of learning a new language. 😘

Rocky I am trying to stay encouraged you’re a good educator! My Puerto Rican Pastor’s from the Bronx change in the middle of worship! Totally flip the song to Spanish and look at me as if I should be able to phonetically flow!Thinking I can worship in song because I was just singing it prior in English. REALLY! It’s not that easy of a language. Our Spanish service has a variety of different Hispanics and the repetitive old-school songs I can figure out how to repeat the word and I’m imagining what it means in English. The Spanish worship is so romantic I fall apart crying and I’m committed to learn this language. As old as I am, I have to start at the ABC’s and just keep replaying your videos!! Your comment about the barber made me repent and commit!! Thank you!! Come to Jersey!
