I've been including film borders with my scans and this is how I do it on my Epson V600. As for newton rings, I don't get them on my 120 film, but do get them sometimes with my 35mm film. I know you can buy special glass that you can use to get better scan results and a tray from Lomography that you can use to make the process much easier. Anyways, I hope this video helps you out! Cheers!

As of publishing this, I want to make it clear that this method works for me and so far I like my results. I don’t care if it doesn’t follow [ insert RU-vidr/Photographer name here ] or follow the rules of the manual. These results will either make you happy or not. At the end of the day, these are your photos. You can do whatever you want with them. If you found this video helpful, please drop a comment below or leave a like!

One issue you might get with this process is not having your negative perfectly flat and level with the glass. The scanner is not going to adjust focus to compensate for a curve in your negative so the flatter it is, the better.

Hey Michael, I've read and heard about ANR glass and even the lomo products that keep your negatives flat.. I honestly have no issues with my 6x9 negatives when I do this method, but do feel that it would work best with 35mm film. My 35mm negatives are usually the ones that don't stay flat.

No problem! Thought I'd share my 2 cents on how I currently scan my negatives. I know of ANR glass, but I feel like it isn't needed with 6x9 negatives. Doesn't mean I should rule it out, I'll definitely invest in one and try it.

Bro, get you a scan tech anr glass. It will be a game changer for scanning photos and keep your photos flat
@russellrabanal
@russellrabanal 4 года назад
Yeah, I've read about anr glass through all the videos and websites I stumble on the web. I've been getting good results with 6x9 negatives since they are usually flat. I've shown dozens of photos on 6x9 scanned this way on all my videos. No newton rings. I don't see the need for me to purchase anr glass when I'm getting good results. If I was disappointed every time I scanned, I'd definitely purchase it. I know for sure though, that it would help my 35mm film since a lot of my negatives don't stay flat. Cheers!

But the negative is not gonna be in the right height :0 Shouldn't it be 3mm up from the glass like with the holders?

Triljoona What I did here is not going to satisfy everyone. People are going to say this and that and honestly I don’t think there is one right way of doing things. Am I disappointed with my scans? Absolutely not. - I’m happy with my results. You can go do a double take, nit pick every detail from my photos and you’ll have to try your best to tell me the “colors are off.” It’s too soft.” Because honestly I don’t see anything wrong with the photos I scanned. I am amazed to see my 6x9 photos this way. Again, I don’t think there is one right way of doing things. You can choose to scan with a tray, flat on the glass, with a Lomo holder, with 3mm above the glass. There’s just so many ways, this worked for me. Cheers.

I do all this but for some reason the scans look blue and super faded.
@russellrabanal
@russellrabanal 3 года назад
Hey Kevin, Make sure the marquee tool is on the whole photo. If it’s out the borders you’ll get faded results.
@themoolag

@@russellrabanal I'm getting the same result. When I include the border it gets washed out. When it's just the image, it's close to normal. Why is this? I've also used silverfast with the same results
@russellrabanal
@russellrabanal 3 года назад
@@themoolag I'm still scanning doing the same method but with Silverfast. I've gotten a few comments like this and my only guess is that the marquee is out of the borders. I can't replicate this issue and it has never happened to me. Shoot me an IG video or go to my discord and share some photos on there and I'll try to help!
