This is an old bush mechanic's trick on how to inflate your tyres without an air compressor.
This trick requires only a single rubber hose, and some knowledge. You never know - this might come in handy one day if your air compressor should ever fail.
Safety Note: NEVER inflate your tyres beyond their maximum rated pressure!
This concept is based on sound physics and will work regardless of your pressure (or the units in which you measure them).
Welcome to the “4xAdventures” channel. Bringing the experience of touring remote outback Australia to you since 2017.

This is great, thanks for sharing. What is the reason for putting on the spare tire instead of keeping it on the back of the vehicle and equalise one of the front tires like you did with the rear, and then equalise both front tires? is it faster or simply because the air hose isn't long enough? Also, is that airhose with pressure gauge in the middle sold as is or did you make this yourself? thanks, love the channel!!

Thanks! So, if I simply equalise the rear tyre (52.5) with one of the front tyres (25), I will end up with 38.5 on that front tyre, and 38.5 on the spare. Then if I equalise the two front tyres (38.5 + 25 / 2) I get 31.75 on each front. But if I do it as I mention in the video, I end up with 38.75 in all 4 tyres, which is better. The hose I’m using is the maxtrax indeflate. You can also just make a hose and it would work equally as well. 😊👍

Very cool trick, makes it extra important to make sure your spare tire is inflated. Thanks Arty!

Hi Atilla. Really enjoying these videos and learning useful tips. 1. How much strain could this put on the spare tire? Could it shorten the tire’s service life (5 tire rotation employed, so it will makes its rounds on the car). 2. Also, I presume the spare should be filled to it max PSI in the hottest part of the day to avoid the tire swelling further at peak heat during the day. Should that be a consideration? Thanks a lot! Great content.

Thankyou. Re. Question 1, no. As long as you don’t inflate your tyre above it’s maximum rating, you are perfectly fine. Re. question 2, yes, that makes sense. I put nitrogen in my tyres whenever possible rather than oxygen. Nitrogen is inert and doesn’t expand anywhere near as much as oxygen when heated up. Obviously this is only possible when you take it to a tyre shop, but it’s certainly possible. If you can’t get nitrogen, then just leave a few psi to cover expansion, and work with those figures. A few psi won’t make a huge difference overall. ☺️👍

Good one Arty... never tried it, makes sense of course.. How fast does it work, could this be quicker than using a compressor?
@4xAdventures
@4xAdventures 3 года назад
Thanks very much! It takes a few min for the pressure to equalise between the tyres. And you need to this 3 times plus swap the spare with one of the tyres, so the whole process is definitely slower than using an air compressor. But it’s still a cool trick to know, and it might get you out of a sticky situation. 😊👍

You waist too much time talking, and explaining. Just demonstrate what has to be done & do it. You are taking too long to get to the point. It was soo boring I couldn’t take it anymore of your blabbing. So I stopped watching it. 🥱😠👎
